Spacious, modern, and flooded with light—so that our… oh, right. Children. Shit. I could burst into tears all over again right now. But I don’t want to show that kind of vulnerability, so I swallow it down and smile, “Yes, it certainly cost enough.” And it did. One and a half million, including the land. It took a year; some rooms still smell a bit like paint. “Bas?”, comes towards me, footsteps draw closer, and then Annie is standing in the kitchen with the policewoman.

She helps me up; her colleague is on the phone outside the house. Guided by my verbal directions, the policewoman steers my still-wobbly steps to the kitchen and seats me at the dining table. The glasses are sitting there; she takes one, fills it at the fridge, and hands it to me. It’s nothing special, but cold. It helps immediately; my vision clears up a bit. It’s almost dark outside! Today at #Work I needed some stuff from another part of the company which is located right across the road. I told the transport guy in the morning I need it by noon, at 12:30 p.m. it wasn't done.
So I mounted the next forklift and hauled it myself.
As I was back, the transport guy saw me, and one could have knocked his eyes right off with a stick; that's how far they got out of his head. 👀
Well, at least now he knows that he's not the only one who can—and is allowed to—operate a forklift…😁

On September 9th I told you I worked on convincing some people to sell me their car.

Which character would be the worst person to get trapped in an elevator with?
For the current WIP that's definitely Colonel Heigers, especially when you're a subordinate rank. He would blame you for what has happened, and would order you to fix it. Now!

The noise and the smell. See, Kessy is used to living alone for the most time. Her Dad's visits to home are only short for sleeping and breakfast, so everything else is only her. Thus, a crowded room is unpleasant for her.

How do you think where you live affects your creative work?
I live in the middle of the woods, dense woods. So, the only things I'm hearing are the muffled train horn every half an hour, the occasional ambulance helicopter going over the house, and else only the murmuring of the trees in the wind and sometimes the rain.
Thus, I can dive so deep into a story that even an earthquake wouldn't be noticeable, and it affects a deep immersion for the reader, too.

I don't know why, but that weird "I have to act because someone is in need"—feeling was (and is) with me all my life. I knew I would've never been accepted as a firefighter back in the days because I'm a girl, nor to the police or EMS for the same reason. But a "technical" job wasn't any problem for girls in the GDR, so combining my soul with the job would have been perfect.
But unfortunately, the Berlin wall fell and everything we kids assumed to happen was going down the drain…

My responsibilities would have included the duty roster for drivers and workshop personnel at normal hours, and in emergencies I would have been the one who managed the crisis at the scene. There was an orange Barkas B1000 for that with blue lights and siren and radio and with big lettering DISPATCHER on the side!

That life is always worth living.
Our "first world problems" aren't that hard so someone has to set an end to themselves.
Talk to someone.
Anyone.
Bus driver, milkman, me, a cop, call a hotline if you can or go to your nearest fire station, it doesn't matter.
Every life is precious, even when one sometimes can't see why.

Mom only needed the GPS to get through the city and onto the highway; then she’d rip it off the dashboard and fling it out the window in a high arc. You see, every time that pleasant voice started speaking, Mom would nearly jump out of her skin. She’d never liked those gadgets—she preferred asking for directions or using a map. Of course, we never needed one in Frisco; we knew our way around there. And here, in her old hometown, Mom knew her way around too.

How colourful is your writing?
"Colorful writing" means IMHO something written down that describes what happens in a way the reader can relate to using words that aren't usually used. Not a useful sentence.
Anyway, I can't beat Douglas Adams in that since he's the one I think does this best, but I use to try the "relatable" thing.

What was your motivation for choosing past or present tense?
I write mostly in past tense since it's the natural way for me to do so.
If you tell someone a story you experienced yourself you don't say “I go to the movies and watch this picture”, you say “I was to the movies and saw that picture”.
The other way around would be very confusing.

No, definitely not.
If I want to show that differences doesn't matter, there have to be differences in the first place. If I'd do this in perfect Oxford English, then there are no differences.
