It was declared illegal to refuse to pay taxes to Caesar, but where is Caesar now and when was the last time you paid taxes to him? When was the last time that declaration was able to be enforced?

Goldbacks don't compete with Bitcoin, they compete with the paper dollar.
Gold in any form devalues against Bitcoin faster than paper devalues against Gold, they're not even in the same game.
But there's something unique to seeing a growing amount of physical Gold and Silver monetary units in your possession, whether coins or Goldbacks, that just scratches an itch that digital wealth can't reach.
Physical value makes wealth real, wouldn't it make sense that those who command the most digital value end up accumulating the most physical value as well? All humans do is coordinate the movement of various forms of matter and energy around the physical world, Gold and Silver are a part of that coordinated movement.
Bitcoin is the galactic center, everything else simply orbits it.

In the last 10 years the United States mint has produced copper coins with a total cumulative face value of roughly $9 - $10 Billion.
During the same period of time the M2 money supply has increased by $10 Trillion. Meaning in the last decade only $1 out of every $1000 has been produced in actual copper coinage, 0.1% of all new dollars were made of physical metal.
Copper may not be silver or gold but it is still a metal that was used as coinage throughout history, it is harder to create than paper or digital fiat, and I enjoy spending it far more than I enjoy spending any other form of the dollar other than old silver when a small business or individual decides to accept it.
In 1933 we lost the circulating Gold Dollar, in 1935 the production of the whole circulating Silver Dollar, in 1965 the circulating 90% Silver Fractional Dollar, 1971 the circulating 40% Silver Fractional Dollar, and in the future we will lose the circulating Copper Dollar / Fractional Copper Dollar just like we just lost the Penny.
If I'm forced to spend fiat, I will spend copper as much as I can, paper after that, and card only when dealing with large purchases where cash and coin have been made impractical. But I will do my best to go to businesses that accept sound money in any form, to spend money is to create it and introduce it into the economy so the better the money you can use to do that the better the economy will become.

Both. The mental shift occurs gradually in everyone, but it will happen to everyone given enough time. I think the Satoshi will be the unit of account for a time, before it too becomes too valuable to be used in that way practically. I think one day Bitcoin will evolve increased divisibility, perhaps the halving will be modified to be endlessly occurring and alongside each new halving a decimal will be added to increase division.
Every halving causes the cost of Bitcoin to double in terms of time, given this it's only a matter of time until the increased value from each halving adds up and makes increased division necessary. The Bitcoin network of today may one day look antiquated to Bitcoiners of the future, in the same way the Turing Bombe computer looks antiquated to us today.
It will change in ways we can't predict, it will evolve organically into new forms and perhaps it will experience hard forks that spawn children that are not shitcoins but instead symbolize different generations of Bitcoin that if successful will be able to coexist. I don't know what will happen for certain, but I know Bitcoin is still a baby that has yet to mature. When fully mature everything will be different, the world will look alien, and Bitcoin will become humanities economic foundation for centuries if not millennia.

For the first time I read the Apology of Socrates this last week, in the middle of it the following statement stood out to me:
"What do they say? Something of this sort: That Socrates is a doer of evil, and corruptor of the youth, and he does not believe in the gods of the state"
The gods of the state.
What is a "god of the state" exactly. Are not the gods worthy of being placed on circulating coinage? They were in ancient Rome, the coins of the Republic featured the faces of the Pantheon of Rome. When the Republic fell to Julius Caesar, he was the first to have his face on his coin while he was still alive. That evokes power.
But the emperor's of Rome did not want it to seem like the city was conquered, but liberated. They wanted the people to believe "Rome" survived a troublesome time, just under new leadership.
They kept making coins, but with their faces on them instead of the Pantheon. Functionally declaring themselves gods. This is where we get the term "God-Emperor", because the emperor's declared themselves living gods.
The empire over time developed into a religious theocracy under the Catholic religion, having originally started out as a Republic it transitioned into a God-Emperor theocracy it became a religious dictatorship where the emperor was the head of the Church. Instead of a god, he was closest to God. This still evokes power.
Eventually though, the collapse of the government was also the collapse of the coinage as everytime the government couldn't pay it's bills it dipped into the savings of it's people by reducing the silver content/value of the coins as they were issued.
The coinage of the United States started out very much the same, honoring only the Pantheon of America. Namely Lady Liberty, who ruled along side Lady Justice in the courts of law. The only things that mattered to Americans, being "Liberty and Justice for all". Opposite Lady Liberty on our coins was the majestic eagle in the seal of our country and our original non-theocratic motto "E Pluribus Unum" (Out of many, One) proudly displayed on the coin. To show we were united in Liberty, even though we were all independent states.
But over time the dominant form of the dollar changed, and instead of Lady Liberty being on the front as was always the case on our Constitutional Silver and Gold Dollars, our paper dollars instead featured the gods of the state. Namely the God-Emperor presidents, and the paper dollars became so popular they eventually became dominant and the US Mint switched to dead presidents on it's coinage as well. After replacing the Liberty herself with dead men, it replaced the guardian of Liberty - Gold/Silver - with copper and paper.
Our coinage is how we do business, a dead coinage is a dead government. As the dollar is slowly replaced by digital versions of it, such as "Bitcoin-backed dollars" (apps paying dollar denominated bills with pure Satoshis over the lightning network), the government slowly becomes the slowest issuer of new exchangeable value to the market and they start to lose influence and power as they cannot control the Bitcoin network.
We are already on the path to freeing the world from the fiat yoke, it's a mathematical certainty that (with the halving and a stable or rising hashrate) Bitcoin grows in value exponentially over the next hundred years. Within a decade it will likely eclipse or have already eclipsed all the combined value of every other currency on earth. It wins because it makes the other issuers of value antiques, it makes them irrelevant and ignored, and everyone is perceived to suddenly be exposed to higher quality forms of money (Bitcoin and free market precious metal moneys) and their honest depiction of costs changing over time.
Observe the world with an attitude of wonder and pity, as the transition slowly happens over the next few years there will likely be bumpy patches where it will be very rough, but whatever happens we're already off the fiat death spiral train and growing more stable all the time.

Hey Nostridges, I updated my personal charts with the last few weeks of highs and lows which I'm attaching below. This time I'm also including more zoomed in charts with 1.05x and 0.95x the trend line showing how both the daily lows and highs relate to them over the last year. I think the charts speak for themselves, but if you have any questions I'm happy to answer to the best of my ability.
Unlike most chart makers I'm not a trader, and this is not an attempt to find a hard bottom or hard top. My intent is just to help visualize the long term growth pattern and what might occur if that growth continues. If you find this interesting that's cool, if you don't that's okay too. Don't use this as a basis for decisions to trade, just don't trade, stack and HODL.
If you're transitioning to actually living on Bitcoin and spending it to cover expenses, then if trends continue my calculations show you can safely withdraw 1 - 2% a month for living expenses and never run out of savings. The amount of Satoshi's you sell will go down each month as the value rises, eventually you'll be selling less than one Satoshi per month; this will be possible as IMO it is an inevitability that consensus will be found to divide Bitcoin beyond the Satoshi, within a decade. It is also likely to be done by adding lines of code that automatically increase division capacity in regular intervals, like perhaps at every halving. I'm not sure how it will play out exactly, but with a growth rate of 10x roughly every 3 years we're losing 1 decimal of value divisibility in the same time frame as long as we don't increase divisibility.
Bitcoin is a 1000+ year network, it will change in ways you don't expect. But you can live on it today, sustainably and forever.

Sure thing! The formula is:
$50 * 1.002046^X * 0.88*0.27
X = Number of days since July 1st, 2013, the calculation start date (Start of 2013 bull run).
Trend line price on July 1st, 2013 = $50
(General estimate working backwards from overall trend observed in later years)
Adding in 0.88 to account for the observed ~12%~ drop in trend due to 2020 COVID Crash global macro event, and 0.27 to account for observed ~73%~ drop in trend due to 2021 mid bull run Chinese total mining ban macro event.
(Those are the only 2 macro events to affect bitcoin's growth trajectory, and only global macro events can. Bitcoin is global, so only global events can noticable affect it's long term growth.)
For instance, today is 4400 days since 07/01/13, so the formula would be:
$50 * 1.002046^4400 * 0.88 * 0.27
Which equals a trend line value of: $95,612.55
Taking the actual price today of about $118,000 gives us price-over-trend ratio of 1.234.
A pretty average day for Bitcoin as it is very commonly between ratios of 1.05 - 1.6, outside of bull runs where the ratio reaches full multiples of the trend line.

Because #monero claims to solve the "very important problem" of a lack of privacy against the authorities, when it actually solves nothing that Bitcoin can't given enough time. Further, Monero introduces more concerning problems like undetectable inflation bugs and forever debasement which effectively ensures any savings held in Monero will never go up in value over time in real terms. Effectively Monero keeps you poor and in fear.
Moneros tail emissions forever expand the supply (debasement) with a never changing value against time through it's mining networks forever set rate of network subsidy.
The #Bitcoin #halving mechanism on the other hand declares the cost of Bitcoin units to double relative to the time required to create them every 4 years. Since this effectively doubles the marginal cost of production in time, and since time is the ultimate scarce asset and the price and value of everything follows it's marginal cost (whether it rises or lowers), this effectively doubles the value of all Bitcoin every 4 years at a minimum.
#ThePriceofTomorrow is forever lower as measured in Bitcoin.
The fact that Bitcoin is programmatically guaranteed to double it's cost/value relative to time at a minimum every 4 years, gives an incentive to everyone who understands to try to acquire as much as possible in the present when it is easier to acquire then it will be in the future.
As for privacy, the lack of base chain privacy on Bitcoin is really of no concern for the majority of people over the long run. At first the connection to the legacy system does indeed pose privacy issues, especially when the authorities have more power than us as is the case now, but only until number go up gives the plebs more relative power tomorrow as will surely happen.
Even with the knowledge of who owns Bitcoin, governments also cannot afford the cost of forcibly extracting Bitcoin value from enough of the self custody population to make such a move even viable given the very high level of resistance and friction they would face.
Layer 2 solutions provide enough privacy for small transactions until the legacy system of surveillance collapses, while smaller balance utxos on the base later wouldn't even draw enough attention to worry about them being public knowledge. The lack of privacy means the biggest balances have the attention of the most eyes globally, as they should so the world can see how such high levels of wealth are used.
When you understand that the government is only as powerful as you let them be, by fearing them enough to give up value growth in Bitcoin over time for the sake of privacy, then maybe you'll understand that publicly owning Bitcoin encourages others to do the same and increases resistance against tyranny. Public resistance empowers others to resist and increases the likelihood of social change.
Monero is never going to succeed against Bitcoin. Bitcoin's network effects and halving effects will drive adoption so high so quickly that within the next decade the network will completely absorb nearly all stored value and plunge the world into total abundance on top of #TheBitcoinStandard such that we have never seen before in history.
You'll understand eventually, just keep learning, reading, listening, and thinking.

Bitcoin is immortal.
If there's ever anything that makes it less efficient, it will fork and the more efficient version will prevail.
The current dramas will pass and we'll all turn our thoughts to the next ones soon enough. Human beings are creatures that tend to focus significantly more on the short term than on the long term. While we also overestimate our own intelligence and try to solve problems that are WAY in the future when they're not even problems yet.
People seem to believe that the network needs to make up for the lowering block subsidy with more transaction fees because it appears that the network will require it due to the ever shrinking block subsidy, but blocks supported only by fees are not sustainable as it would suppress usage by people who want to transact cheaply. Why is the importance of low cost nodes causing us to ignore the importance of low cost transactions? We need both to remain usable and low cost by the greatest number of individuals in support of the end goal of decentralization over the long term, and we do not want to ever debase the network to achieve that goal.
If transaction fees were all that supported the current block, transaction fees would be over $500. This kills Bitcoin. Pushing for higher transaction fees kills Bitcoin.
Thankfully this is not the only option.
The Bitcoin of today is quite different from the Bitcoin of yesterday, and the Bitcoin of tomorrow will be quite different from the Bitcoin of today.
The block subsidy used to be 50 Bitcoin, it is now 3.125. Block subsidy has fallen 93.75% and yet the transaction fees are still low. Outside of moments of impatience causing temporary demand/fee spikes the fees generally have been a dollar or less, which translates to fewer Satoshis paid in fees over time. Block 450,000 had a median transaction fee of 19985 Sats worth at the time less than $0.20. Block 880,000 had a median transaction fee of 660 Sats, worth at the time roughly $0.66. Transaction fees are going down orders of magnitude in Satoshi terms, not up.
Bitcoin will change, sometimes in ways you may not agree. But it will always be here, and it will always be Bitcoin.
I forsee the network determining it is in it's best interest to increase division on the base chain, allowing the subsidy to continue the remaining 32 halving cycles beyond 2140 that Satoshi allows in the original code for up to 64 Halving events. Perhaps 64 won't be the limit as that will be updated in the future as needed as well.
Bitcoin might very well go up in value against time and energy forever, if you don't support sub dividing Satoshis today then at what price would you? What happens when 1 Sat = 0.01 Oz of gold? 0.1 Oz of gold? 1 Oz?10 Oz? 100 Oz? 1000 Oz? If it really does rise in value forever, it's inevitable.
IMO the simplest solution for adding regular network increased division might be to add a 0 to the balance of every wallet every time there's another halving, and to the definition of "1 Bitcoin" in terms of the new ever smaller base unit. Perhaps with a 0 added for every halving since the Genesis block when this change is instituted.
This would not be debasement, this is cutting the ever growing pizza into ever smaller slices as it gets bigger. There is still only 1 "Pizza".
There will only ever be 21,000,000 divisions of the original network size, which we currently call Bitcoin. IMO 1 Bitcoin should forever be 1/21,000,000 of the total network, and 1 Sat can always be the smallest unit on the network unless we want to give new names to the smaller units as well. We can do anything we want, the network is us.
Imagine how appealing to the average person owning Satoshis would be if their balance of Satoshis increased by 10 every 4 years but spending power per Satoshi remained roughly the same? All while their fraction of a Bitcoin never changes. Spending fractions of your personal growth would become intuitive as the network grows because people would be able to see it in terms they can understand.
The network needs to be usable by everyone, and easily understood by everyone. Not just people who understand math, history, computers, and the dangers of out of control governments that debase their currencies for destructive ends.
The age of FIAT and lies paid for with it are over, the future of freedom/truth/fairness is coming and nothing will stop it. Not even disagreements within the network. 😜😋
That's my thoughts on this matter currently, I'll think about it more and consider new information and perhaps my opinion will change. Who knows what the future holds.

The beauty is the growth of the network has been constant over the last 12 years, after accounting for a 10% drop in the trend line's position on the Y axis due to the COVID global market crash, and a whopping 72.6% drop in the trend due to China banning Bitcoin mining in the middle of the bull run (costing Bitcoin significant support and momentum). The more I refine my model the more confident I am in this.
1.002046 is my current daily average growth rate calculated over time, refined further from my earlier calculation of 1.00203, this is constant outside of major macro events. Using this daily growth rate starting at a trend line bottom price of $50 in July 1st 2013 and simply shifting the trend line down 10% in March 2020 and down another 72.6% in May 2021 and we have an incredibly strong bottom that is only broken 130 or so days out of the last 4300 days since July 2013. With the price living within 60% of the trendline 53% of the time.
Once people understand that the system is fair even in when you get in, that you'll experience the same rate of growth as those who joined in 2013, there will be no resentment like with housing. Their savings all also grow by about 110% a year if they simply purchase when it's close to the trend and they hodl long term. 😊

What determines the price of 1 Bitcoin?
It is the value of the energy used to mine it.
The network itself is paying humanity for the energy needed to be both functional and secure. This value continues to grow in real terms while it drops in relative/nominal terms.
Bitcoin is paying humanity with units of itself, both declaring the value of the network overall and the value of the units within it, in exchange for the value of the energy and time fed into it for functionality and security.
It then revalues itself every 4 years against that energy when it reduces the subsidy by half. The mining network hashrate does not reduce by half to maintain the previous valuation per coin, instead it has doubled against the time and energy input by the mining network every 10 minutes.
Every time the halving occurs, the value of all Bitcoin's is declared worth twice as much time and energy as before. When the hashrate continues to climb after this declaration then we know it is accepted by the market.
This market acceptance has occurred every time and will likely continue to occur due to the fact that nothing else exists that offers direct value in exchange for energy without a middle man creating something to sell first.
Bitcoin turns all sources of electricity into sources of money. The cheaper the electricity is to create, the more money there is to be made. This changes humanities relationship with energy generation, and gives us a way to create abundant energy the likes of which the world has never seen.

Anyone on here used #CrowdHealth? The Bitcoiner's alternative to health insurance.
Recently was let go from my job and along with it went the #insurance, #COBRA rates are $400 - $800 a month for just me which is insane. Crowd Health with $50 - $185 a month for what appears to be better benefits seems very appealing, and my funds would go to other Bitcoiners in need which I prefer to the current insurance industry.
I'd love to hear anyone's personal experiences with them!

In other news, last night I had a dream that I found myself in a small room with maybe 50 Congressional representatives discussing how to fix the #economy and I felt compelled to speak!
I did my best but I was so nervous and my voice was super dry that I had extreme difficulty doing so. Thankfully this was a made up #dream #Congress so they were patient and actually open to hearing from a random #pleb such as myself. I did get out how we're trapped in the #FIAT system, but I also started having more trouble speaking before I woke up right as I tried to start explaining in depth how ₿ is our way out. If only dream Congress could've heard what I had to say! 😂
In reality I'm writing a book on ₿ and when it's finished I plan to mail a copy to every congressional representative. That will be my chance to speak.

I'd like to add that this is not meant to say "don't spend anything! Save everything and never eat out, never buy fun stuff, never go on vacation!" and so on. Instead it's meant to make you be more conservative and delay gratification as long as you deem it reasonable, do I want to spend my money on cheap stuff now or be more patient and have better stuff later?
Because humanity never stops producing more stuff, and Bitcoin will never grow it's capped supply, relative to that capped supply of Bitcoin units the ever growing supply of new stuff gets lower and lower in cost. This is what @npub15dq…lm5m meant by "It's going up forever Laura!" and what @npub1s05…eyhe means when he talks about us living in a world of abundance where everything getting cheaper over time.
But do not forget that while our Bitcoin value grows, we're constantly losing time on the slow march towards the end of our time among the living.
We all have to balance whether the enjoyment we get from getting things earlier in our finite lives exceeds the greater value the finite Bitcoin spent on it will grow into.
For example, I have spent the equivalent of about 0.15 ₿ on my collection of physical media since the end of 2023. But I'm spending far less than I would otherwise because I'm also spending a lot of my free time finding the best deals possible, I find it feels like a treasure hunt! Shopping at thrift stores, online eBay resellers for used copies, or sales direct from the manufacturers.
This collection of physical media is more valuable to me than 0.15 ₿ is, because it's engineered fun for myself and my family and friends that I get to own and use without needing permission from anyone else, for the rest of my life.
Maximize your enjoyment of life, Bitcoin is just the greatest tool to do so. Don't HODL forever, but be more conscious in how you spend your savings and future you will be grateful for it.

These days I subscribe to YouTube, a budgeting app to help me keep all my FIAT accounts in order, and I have a membership to my local theme park, but that's about it. Overall what I spend money on I own.
I caught the own-my-own-movie-library bug late last year, I now have nearly 1000 titles for less than $7 each on average.
I'm heavily considering starting a modern movie rentals club for people in my city to help people get off streaming services and inspire them to start building their own collections.

I was thinking this morning about how we leave LED lights on all the time and don't even care, yet our grandparents would walk around turning off the lights whenever they left a room, and it got me thinking about the real #debasement adjusted electricity cost of 1960 vs today.
In 1960 an oz of #gold was $35, and a kwh of #electricity was 2.6 cents. So you could buy 1346 kwh for an oz of gold, which you could earn with 12.7 hours of labor at the #medianwage of $2.75/hr. This also meant you could buy 105.8 kwh of electricity with an hour of your time. A #lightbulb would use 60 watts, so would use a kwh every 16.5 hours.
Today an oz of gold is about $2600, which you can earn in 76.74 hours at today's median wage of $33.88, and the cost per kwh of electricity has "gone up" to about 16.5 cents meaning you could buy 15,757 kwhs with an oz of Gold, and you can buy 205.33 kwh with an hour of your time.
Relative to gold electricity has dropped in price 91.5%. But #wages have dropped in value relative to gold by 83.45%. So relative to hourly wages, the meaningful metric to people, electricity has reduced in price by only about 1/2.
However, in addition to the price of electricity falling substantially, the #electronics we use are also much more efficient. Today an LED light bulb will use only 10 watts, 6 times less than in 1960, and gives you 100 hours of light for only 1 kwh. 6 times more light for half the price, or 12 times more light for the same price! A 91.7% reduction in cost for lighting our homes relative to our labor hours.
On the median hourly wage today you can get over 20,000 hours of light from a single lightbulb for 1 hour of labor. In 1960 you could only get just over 1700 hours of light. Not to mention the cost to replace the light bulbs going down as well, due to their longer durability. This is a substantial improvement by almost any metric.
But what if wages had stayed the same relative to Gold because the world lived on a sound monetary standard the entire time?
If in 1960 an oz of gold could buy you 1346 kwh which would give you 16.5 hours of light each, that works out to 22,209 hours of light per oz of Gold. Since it would take you 12.7 hours to earn that oz of gold, 1 hour of median labor would get you 1748.74 hours of light.
Fast forward to today, cheaper electricity + more efficient electronics, an oz of gold will give you 15,757 kwhs of electricity which can power an LED bulb for 100 hours each. So an oz of gold now gives us 1,575,700 hours of light vs 22,209 hours in 1960. This means if wages had stayed the same relative to Gold then you would get 124,070.9 hours of light from an hour of your labor, instead of the 20,000 hours you can actually get today. All vs the 1748.74 hours of light you could get for the same hour of labor 64 years ago.
124,070.9 / 1748.74 = 70.94
71 times more light for the same amount of gold, thanks to efficiency gains in our light bulbs and improvements to our electricity generating capacity bringing the cost of energy down. The world is getting incredibly cheaper all around us all the time, we just don't see it thanks to the FIAT system. Due to this FIAT debasement, 83% of the efficiency/technological gains has been taken from us all. This is the real theft.
Monetary Inflation is theft, the growth rate of the M2 is the true inflation rate, not the CPI. Inflation doesn't just rob us of our past earnings in the form of our savings, it reduces our future earnings too by debasing our wages.
₿ clears the fog of debasement we've been living under, truly revealing the world of abundance we live in TODAY. If we embrace its simplicity as the best savings instrument ever discovered and/or created by humanity, then we will all truly prosper having freed ourselves from the yoke of bondage that is the centrally controlled FIAT currencies of the world.
You really don't need to work so much. Have a new perspective, lower your time preference, live as frugally as possible within your means and do whatever you can to save as much of your money in BTC and you will be free of the drudgery much more quickly. Buy second hand whenever possible, learn how to cook at home and buy tools that assist you in that endeavor such as a quality blender / slow cooker / pressure cooker / rice cooker / bread maker etc. When you're free, you'll be able to use your time for more useful and important endeavors such as thinking / writing / inventing / volunteering and so on, and also have more time to spend with your family and friends.
Contrary to what many today feel, life is worth living and it can be much more meaningful. The future is bright and full of hope, you just have to leave the cave to see it.

Beautiful. I love my life and am excited for the future. Spending less than I make, living frugally below my means, all great ways to improve life.
I make my own yogurt, bread, sour cream, jam, ice cream, poke bowls, burrito bowls, pizza, and so on.
Self sufficiency and frugality means a relaxed and happy life. I also more freely share what I make with others because it brings me joy to improve their lives. What is life for if not to live in peace and help others do the same? Bitcoin truly is enabling a peaceful revolution to a better way of life.

The transfers of institutions and governments (who both represent significant groups of individuals) should be public so we all know it happened. For too long large institutions have had their transactions private and through those same institutions we have lost anonymity in small transactions.
