The mathematical part is most interesting to me. Has been since I worked for an AI lab decades ago. Now, no offence but could you please reply to what I was asking?
- Someone produces an almost exact copy of your copyrighted work. You sue, you win. Has happened countless times.
- Same story, but that someone says (truthfully) he simply "prompted an AI" (sic) and got that answer. Would you accept that as a legitimate argument?

I also bring simple facts. If I ask someone for a solution to a specific problem and a/he produces an almost exact copy of a long, nontrivial pre-existing document written by you (not quoting, but copying), you would probably accuse him of plagiarism. You could sue and you would almost certainly win.
Is it a valid defence if that person says "I'm innocent, an AI did it"?

if the dataset used to train an LLM contains a problem statement and corresponding solution code that perfectly matches the prompt, and few or no alternative solutions for the same problem, then yes, many LLMs will in fact output an exact (or almost exact) copy of the solution code in the training dataset.
Same when a specific case is vastly overrepresented.
"Almost exact copy" often including comments with author attribution.
Same with generated images, of course. Even with the watermark from the commercial image bank the original came from.

perfectly understood - but we humans have clear rights and duties. We are responsible for code we write. We are not allowed to copy someone else's copyrighted code without permission. We are not allowed to write code (or music, or books) "too similar to a previous work from a third party".
Right now "yeah it's exactly the same code as someone else's, but it's just a coincidence" will get you sentenced, but "Dunno, Claude wrote it"?

my honest humble 2c: I've been using Linux for some 32 years or so (since 0.99p12), plus IRIX since 5.2, AIX since 3.2, SunOS since 4.1.3, AT&T System V since SVR2. There have been many excellent ideas and code and there have been some real crappy ideas and code in all those OSes. I never met more than a tiny fraction of their developers and cannot attest their honesty or authenticity. AI generated code lacks a human vision behind, and it is in a sense plagiarizing previous code - so it IS worse on nontechnical principles. On technical results, AI generated code is, a priori, neither better or worse. IIRC, CDE tools were largely implemented with code generators and they were a bloated mess 30 years ago. Sloppy generated code is not something new we owe to Claude and friends. Only automated plagiarism is.

This is beyond absurd and only serves interests against the EU.
Fund microelectronics startups and chip foundries so that Europe has the capacity to create and manufacture faster, competitive, more efficient ICs without depending on supply from foreign sources. Streamline funding for SMEs. Increase funding for public education - there's an untapped potential in the poorest population segments. Open much larger immigration quotas for university students from poor countries, with free tuition so that EU universities and research centers become the aspiration for millions outside our small borders.
But you instead announce millions of euros will be spent (not invested) in short lived components from foreign companies that will require enormous amounts of energy. That, during a historic heatwave.
One can only hope this is a PR stunt aimed at transatlantic relations, and the bubble bursts or the transatlantic situation changes before this self harm is actually inflicted.

I wonder why electronic voting machines and voting software are necessary at all.
I mean, some software is necessary for summarizing results etc; but as for actual counting, other democracies count votes manually, give (semi) final tallies in just a few hours, and the entire process is extensively audited and leaves detailed trails of every step.

En Holanda es normal vivir en un pueblo a 15 km de Den Haag y acercarte todos los días en bici a trabajar. Red de vías interconectadas pensadas para usarse.

¿Tienes datos más concretos?
Los datacenters que conozco no hacen nada de eso. Alguno tiene enfriadoras con un consumo de agua elevado (evaporan, que es más barato que usar bombas de calor), pero no conozco ningún sistema que añada aditivos al agua.
Si usan intercambiadores agua-agua con un circuito exterior abierto (un río) efectivamente se añade glicol, pero al circuito interior, que es cerrado y no se vierte nunca (cuesta dinero), no al exterior.

Me meto sin que me llamen, disculpen ustedes.
Subvencionar calderas fósiles era un absurdo de escala planetaria en términos ecológicos... y económicos. Que el gas lo compramos fuera y pagamos un alto coste (monetario y político).
Lo primero, no es "se prohíben las calderas de gas" sino "se prohíbe que los países las subvencionen". Puedes seguirla usando y puedes comprarte otra nueva.
Las calderas de combustible fósil acabarán desapareciendo, pero no ahora.

pero en esas sociedades si que hay vida en comunidad. El caso de las promociones urbanísticas colosales al que se refiere el post original es acertado, creo.
Y si, totalmente de acuerdo en cómo la pandemia afectó (o casi no) al rural disperso. Conozco casos cercanos (residentes en aldea de +-13 habitantes) que en el confinamiento el único cambio que vieron fue el de usar mascarilla en su visita quincenal al pueblo "grande" (<3000 hab.) para hacer la compra. Nada más.

This article has now been removed. On the plus side, they acknowledge the cockup. On the down side, they mention "lack of informed patient consent" and "using generative AI without disclosure" before the central point: "The journal regrets that this issue was not detected

Que un señor que se ha autodescrito como autista (1) y presume de "masculinidad" sugiera que sólo los señores con testosterona alta o autistas deberían tener derecho al voto ya es para sospechar.
Mi experiencia como humano masculino es que la testosterona no ayuda precisamente a tomar decisiones racionales.
