I was today years old when I learned that between #ravens and #crows, ravens are the insanely large ones of the two. They gather in groups sometimes in my yard, presumably scouring for worms or something and I can never get over how HUGE they are. I swear, even some hawks seem smaller than them.

Decided to delete my BlueSky account. People there are just super into droning their anxieties and doom-posting. It’s become a super negative space where no one takes a break from politics to take care of their own mental health. I've seen a major increase in the number of people wanting to be more food-independent....fruit trees and shrubs are selling like hot cakes at the nursery. People having them tagged practically as they come off the truck. Makes sense though with impending tariffs and inflation. We need to do more though for the #pollinators that give us those fruits....they're still declining from pesticide use and loss of habitat. Yes, plant natives but also attend your local zoning board/planning commission meetings and remind them to keep wildlife in mind when making land use decisions!

The forecast for the rest of the month is looking predominately quite warm so I guess I'm going to go ahead and start the warm-season veggies and herbs. @npub1h33…l2sr When I start my seeds, for whatever I'm starting indoors, I've found good success with Jiffy peat pods. I just follow the package directions for seed depth, drop a seed or two into each pod (after they've expanded of course), then give the try of pods a good misting, put the cover on it, and then wait for germination. Once the seeds have started germinating, I take the lid off, and put the trays under my grow lights, which I keep a few inches above the seedlings. Then, it's just a matter of raising the grow lights as the seedlings grow, and keeping them watered until ready to thin and transplant outside into individual pots or into your garden beds.

Spent the day with my mom. She was quite visibly tired from the radiation treatments but still had enough energy to grab lunch and run one or two errands. She's still waiting to see a rheumatologist about the blood test results that seemed to indicate a possible immune system disorder. Fingers crossed it's just a side effect of a drug she had to take as part of her cancer treatment. But at least she'll be done with radiation after the second week of January so there's that!

CBD doesn't get you high. There's no need to restrict CBD products, though I'd still argue that full spectrum products like Delta-8 shouldn't need such cumbersome regulations either

@npub1l0y…uj3e I think I know what the issue might be. This looks like multiple plants trying to grow in the same container. When the basil seeds sprout, you'll want to thin them out to just one plant per pot, and transplant the rest to one container per plant.

Once you start getting over a few thousand users, the risk of performance/reliability issues with the server increases exponentially. I'm so pissed off today. Thinking about the insane #SCOTUS ruling that forces the EPA to no longer protect wetlands. That a sitting justice can accept bribes for favorable rulings, and his wife can facilitate overthrowing the legislative branch with no consequences. I hope Democrats will remember how far-reaching the consequences of elections are, and resolve to not take a single election for granted going forward. These elections are too close to stay home.

- My Ember mug + hot chocolate or cider or tea
- Knowing that the cold temperatures help my apple tree bloom and produce fruit later
- Knowing that the cold keeps mosquito and tick populations in check
- The cold air is easier on my sinuses than the warm, humid air of late spring and summer
- Snow is always a bonus

Just got a phone call from my mom; the results of a biopsy came back, and she has breast #cancer. They don't know much just yet, other than it's cancerous, so follow-up imaging is happening in short order. I'm grateful that she has a very good support system in place. @npub1tgz…446e I used Brave for a little while to try it out and found it to be alright, but the more news I hear about Google the less comfortable I am using Chrome-based browsers (Brave is one). I also didn't like that Brave is involved with crypto companies and builds crypto stuff into their browser. They created their own version of Google Wallet and that was a hard no from me. So basically, Firefox (and a fork of that called LibreWolf) much more privacy focused.

@npub1s5x…lvh8 Yes! The hardest thing for me is feeling like I *don't* have to be doing something all the time (something that was ingrained in me at a young age, that idleness is the devil's playground so to speak)
