The US does have 240V to the home these days I think, as two phases that get split at the distribution board? 1955 I don't know about.

Sadly wouldn't work. Imagine you could somehow transport the telescope at very nearly the speed of light - the first images it will get will be from just after its own launch. Then it'll take 5,000 years to beam the images back. So people 10,000 years in our future would get images from 5,000 years in their past, but we couldn't look into the past now. Neat idea for a "Long Now" type project though!

Friend of mine got arrested in Northern Ireland ~2000. For kicking a rugby ball at (accidentally) a police car. As an adult.
He was left in an office cos they were busy. When they came back to basically yell at him and chuck him out he had a bunch of files he'd taken from cabinets and demanded to speak to whoever was in charge of security. They just threw him out.
