Any other node-runners who just opt for bare-linux instead of umbrel or start9?

M V = P T
Where
M = the total supply of money
V = the velocity of money (how often money moves hand)
P = the average price level
T = volume of transactions of goods and services
This is the equation of exchange

The censorship resistance of bitcoin is overrated.
An ISP can easily censor me from using bitcoin.
This is even more true in countries where VPN's are illegal and the most popular VPN's are operated by the government

Belgian regulator orders binance to cease all offers of virtual currency services in Belgium immediately.
https://www.fsma.be/en/news/fsma-orders-binance-cease-immediately-all-offers-virtual-currency-services-belgium
The footnote is pretty interesting.
The FSMA wishes to recall that the activity of provider of exchange services between virtual currencies and legal currencies and of custody wallet services (VASP) remains an unregulated activity, except as concerns combating money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/TF).

Lol, you can even zap yourself

2023-06-22 21:56:04 UTC

- reply

Cycling zaps is easier than buying likes.
When you cycle zaps you send from a fake account to yourself and back. Repeat this procedure and get an artificially high zap count.
Faking likes requires a large number of accounts. On traditional social media acquiring a large number of accounts is a bit less trivial.

Can #nostr fix surveillance?

2023-06-20 13:21:14 UTC

- reply

Maybe it is a design problem.
Servers shouldn't decide what content you can access.
Migrating on mastodon is messy because you cannot keep your handle.

#nostr fixes this.
My relays cannot ban me from seeing others people content

To any nostridge who believes we get better content by a pay-to-publish mechanism.
Please check the ads in your twitter feed?

Are there any Nostr indexers that I can use to query content like.
I would imagine a twitter like search mechanism would be great

2023-06-13 07:28:41 UTC

I would love to have a system of topic based relays.
I want to be able to find people with the same obscure hobbies as I have in nostr.

Nostr is still small.
Current user-base is mostly bitcoiners discussing bitcoin.
People tend to be nicer if they agree on what they are talking about

The opsec of my #nostr keys is terrible. I put the secret key in a client on each device I have. If any of these devices is compromised my #nostr-account is gone.
Are there any proposals to improve the situation?
One proposal could be to generate a private key per device. These keys could be retracted by the master-key.

I cannot find the option in Amethyst.

I've seen the global feed on Snort.social
Can I get it on Amethyst or another Android client?

I tried it on Amethyst using Phoenix wallet.
Didn't work.

There is little debate on how #ordinals impact on #fungibility.
The #bitcoin protocol doesn't enforce fungiblity. Bitcoins are fungible because we all agree that 1 sat = 1 sat.
By creating inscriptions some sats become more valuable than others

2023-02-17 09:29:02 UTC

The idea that number of Zaps is the best metric for content-quality is absurd to me.
Many of histories greatest artists didn't seem to care about the economic value of their art.

It is a type of note containing the receipt of a lightning payment. It can be used for fun or as a spam deterrent.

2023-02-14 20:26:30 UTC

There is engineering trade-off between transparency and fungibility.
In bitcoin everyone can see how (many) sats flow between UTXO's. The ordinal trick assigns a unique number to each sat and breaks fungiblity. The fungiblity depends on social consensus and not on cryptography.
Monero has confidential transactions and breaks the ordinal trick. The amount of sats in UTXO's is blinded to the general public and the ordinals trick cannot be aplied.
However, it is incredibly hard to verify that no one is creating XMR out of thin air. A single inflation bug could go unnoticed.
