I don't care about soft forks, agentic payments, shitcoins on bitcoin, dev drama, fork drama, quAnTUm, paper bitcoin, regulation, influencer wars or any of that.
I just want a reusable payment ID not dependent on a third party server that people can send Bitcoin payments to instantly, cheaply at any time of the day. The funds I recieve can be sent instantly and cheaply, and are stored self-custodially, fully in my control, without a trusted third party accessing my funds or some snoop figuring out when, why, how much and what I'm getting paid.

A few things actually:
1. Nostr doesn't 'fix' social media. Public forums are always going to have interactions you don't like with people you don't like. Private, invite-only, closed forums are simply better than 'public square'. Same reasoning as public vs private property. Public sucks. Private better. Nostr makes people harder to censor. And it can enable devs to experiment with social apps a lot more. Also, zaps make people behave in a performative manner, more than likes. When you get 100 bucks for being outraged, you'll double down. Not saying that's good or bad. It is what it is.
2. Open source folks tend to criticize the misaligned incentives that come with profit-driven ad-based, payment-based or subscription-based models, but idk if they realize that the grant-based or donation-based funding models also come with their own drawbacks and incentives. Atleast when profits are prioritized over ideology, energy and capital will flow towards what the market really needs and towards satisfying the demands of consumers and users. Besides, devs and researchers need to eat. Sometimes I feel like the industry is too narrow-minded about the issue of money - like they loathe making money and people who want to make money, while holding aloft the benefits of money.
3. Austro-Libertarianism is extremely useful if it is learnt in a value-free manner. Treating it as a science that explains cause and effect in history, economics, law and politics is far more useful. As an ideology, like all other ideologies, it isn't really useful. You might end up wasting time trying to convince people. Approaching things in a praxelogical manner is the best. Epistemology is also far more useful than we think, especially to become psyop-resistant.

There are those who say that it's an inevitable pattern or progression in society and history. Or that it's divine intervention. Or that it's about the quality of money. Or technological progress. Or the planets.

On its own, it can't 'do stuff'. Nope. A human being can tell it what to do, and only then it will. That's how it is now. And that's how it will always be.
We won't get further if we can't agree on definitions. 'Doing stuff' and 'acting' are the same things to me. And I extensively defined what it means to act. Not sure how the concept of doing stuff differd from those definitions.

It was all related and implied.
The reason why I defined all that was to explain what 'acting' entails. Everything I described as the categories of 'action' are things an AI cannot do.
I thought it to be better than simply saying that an AI cannot act.
•An AI can't aim at ends and consciously choose the means to achieve those ends.
•It cannot own itself or other resources and things. It does not have a will. It has no conception of 'labour'.
•An AI cannot understand the concept of scarcity because it cannot own things.
•Not being able to aim at ends or understand the scarcity in means, it cannot choose between different ends and means.
•Not being able to own things, it cannot bear the costs and risks.
•Not having any conception of costs and risks, it cannot have preferences.
•It cannot have profit and losses as a result of all the above.
All an AI can do is do what it's told. And this function of doing what it's told can increase in complexity. That's pretty much what we're looking at.
Thus, an AI cannot act. Of its own accord.

I've learnt to articulate it a bit better since we last spoke about it:
Only human beings can 'act'.
When we say act, we mean to say:
•Aiming at ends.
•Understanding the concept of scarcity in the means available to achieve those ends, like time, energy, resources, capital, etc.
•Choose the preferrable ends and means by rank ordering them.
•Bear the opportunity costs of aiming at certain ends and means over others.
•Choose the preferrable ends and means based on costs.
•Take the risk of incurring a loss by choosing the wrong means to achieve their ends.
This is basically the action axiom.
Wading further into the philosophical territory, we can say that only human beings can 'reason' about things.
H/T Hans-Hermann Hoppe. His writings have helped me understand the above.
Furthermore, perhaps a theological argument can be made that only human beings have the ability to access 'revelational knowledge'. Only they have the gift of self-realization. But I am too young and inadequately read to elaborate this particular point properly.

If I were to convince a Bitcoiner to embrace Libertarianism, this is an outline of how I would do it:
The Bitcoin network is not fully resistant to censorship as long as there's a government monopoly in the regulation of the provision of internet services.
An ISP is legally bound to block off your internet access if the state orders it to.
Spectrum is considered a public good that everybody owns, in theory.
The state owns all of it, in practice.
By 'own', I mean that the state has the ultimate say in the usage of spectrum and the ends towards which it is used.
Ownership rights in spectrum is inevitable and necessary since there exists scarcity and conflict regarding its use.
However, no homesteading or first appropriation was involved in government ownership of spectrum.
A law was written and passed, after which the started owning all of it, by fiat. (Whether this was done democratically or by other means does not matter. Fiat is fiat)
The state then leases out the spectrum to ISPs, through auctions.
You'll also need to procure the mandated licenses to set up an ISP.
Hence, a libertarian legal order which enables the provision of internet to become fully privatized is necessary for Bitcoin to become truly censorship-resistant.

Hoppe's description of Hinduism in 'Economy, Society and History' is not fully accurate. Very much in contrast to the insane depth that his guru Rothbard goes into while taking about subjects like this. But that's okay.
He is criticized for attributing cultural conditions to the development of libertarian ideas. And that's not okay.
Tradition, religion and culture needs to be challenged by Reason, all day everyday. (And so does History).
I would modify or add to Hoppe's points the following:
I'm from Tamilnadu and my points are going to be centred around Tamil society.
Tamilnadu has been undergoing a century-long challenge and reform to its caste system, kickstarted by the spread of Rationalist ideas.
The caste system is an atrocious monstrosity. The sooner it is gotten rid of, the better.
(Side bar: Some cultural customs, like the belief in determinism, which involves the practice of using horoscopes to make decisions, still persist among people. That hinders entrepreneurial progress also. But as long as it doesn't become a part of government policy, it's fine. To be honest, it's hilariously not that different from drawing lines on charts to make investment decisions. Or using statistical aggregates to plan the economy, which is indeed a part of economic policy all over the world, sadly.)
State policies like affirmative action, wealth redistribution, etc. has unsurprisingly failed at addressing the caste system. It's only made things worse by amplifying caste-based tensions. The reformers were largely liberals who became liberals after it got corrupted by socialist and egalitarian ideas.
State policy that inculcated libertarian principles, e.g. 1991 liberalisation, opening up of imports and exports, making private property universal, removing the barriers to the private production of goods and services, partial privatization of health and education, defense of self-ownership and natural rights and introduction of contract laws, have helped.
Bottom-up organic reforms like voluntary abandonment of caste-based surnames, the spread of rationalist ideas through media and literature, widespread cultural shifts that made 'going back to the old ways' a non-starter in serious political discussions have played a major role in Tamil society shedding the ideas that held its people back from economic advancement.
Tamil people having one of the highest household gold holdings, not only in comparison with other Indian regions, but also regions all over the world, would have helped a lot with being resilient to Socialist planning that occured from 1947 - 1991 and the crony capitalist regulatory capture that has occured since 1991 - present day.
Tamil society has also had religious doctrines that are distinct from the rest of India, which are conducive to rationalist and libertarian ideas.
Tamil Shaivism does not explicitly advocate for a caste system. It is a doctrine, when interpreted properly, that helps people look inward.
I've personally never found it difficult to whole-heartedly embrace libertarian ideas while also keeping my religious predispositions intact. That's got to amount to a good deal in this argument.
The Siddhar tradition and its epistemology, part of the Tamil Shaivite school, is not at all well-known among 'mainstream' Hindu thought. It is low-key, but incredibly influential in Tamil society. That's the right combination and I hope it stays that way. Even if people attempt at making it popular, only those who have good gurus would be able to grok it. And those who do grok it won't go about waging wars, expropriating property and pursuing conquest and subjugation. They simply take care of themselves, their lives and their families and if possible, bring about a positive impact to their society.
This tradition constitutes social power.
Social power is not the same as state power.
Which brings me to the point about intellectuals and opinion moulders, whom Libertarians have rightly pointed out as the legitimizers of the state and engineers of consent.
And boy have they legitimized and engineered many kings and states for centuries. They are at fault for the feudal caste system, customary laws, decline in economic freedoms, parasitic wealth extraction and many other socially destructive phenomena commonly attributed to the state.
The point:
There's nothing inherently corrupt in Hinduism and its epistemology, if understood with the right guidance.
It's the intellectuals and opinion moulders who have corrupted it.
Rothbard would've understood this.
If someone tells me that a religion has not been corrupted this way, they are not seeking truth, but rather propaganda.
Monarchs and their intellectual allies corrupted Hinduism and Indian culture. And so have democratic caretakers and their bureaucrats.
Monarchy was a god that failed long ago in India.
And so is democracy.
Neither is preferable.
No state is the best state.

ok so the quick answer is that as long as you can independently choose the address that your bitcoin goes to you can have complete assurance that the coins you receive are in your full control. no funny business
bitcoin addresses dictates what kind of lock is put on that bitcoin. if you pick a single sig or multisig address, those coins will only be locked up by those keys. nothing else
the covenant things that people are talking about (in theory) limit what addresses bitcoin can be sent to this is useful for some uses but isnt something you will encounter in general or in “normal” bitcoin wallets
this is also why knowing how to hold your own keys and own your own bitcoin addresses is important. that address is your key to self control. if someone else is picking the address your coins go to, its not your money!! 💰
yes it really is that straightforward. covenants getting added to bitcoin is an optional thing that people will have to elect to send their money into, by using an address that has those specific restrictions built into it
you dont want to use it, fine don’t send your bitcoin to those contracts it’s something you can choose to participate in or not! and you’ll have to move your coins to opt into it
just like you have to move your coins to opt into taproot addresses. this is the beauty of softforks in bitcoin (as well as the utxo model!!) you hold your keys, you decide what restrictions your coins have
some people are really looking forward to locking their coins into more complicated vaults! some people like to put their coins into lightning contracts some people let others hold their keys for them even today🤷
so go forth and write the contracts that you like and make you feel happy and secure about your coins and hold them there!! no one can move or even touch your coins without you agreeing to send them to those contracts
this is why self soveiregnty on bitcoin is so cool: the protocol lets everyone decide how they independently want to guard their bitcoins. other people making different choices has no impact on you personally and i think that’s pretty cool!!

It helped me understand that Socialism and Liberalism are different things whose meanings have been twisted to mean the same thing.

Even 'edit post' is an event kind which isn't supported by most clients. You might see the edits I've made to the typos in the first paragraph on Amethyst but not on Primal.

Everything action you do on Nostr, posting, liking, replying can be called as 'events'. Each event has a 'kind' number which describes what type of event it is.
What you're looking for is long form content (kind: 30023)

Not all twitter-like clients we use display this event kind on your profile by default.
Amethyst does support it on Android though. You can always share a link on your preferred twitter-like client after publishing on the long-form client. The post will still be nostr-native and people can directly zap it as well.
