One important group of bitcoiners are Lightning operators. On one hand they should like a more monetary-focused L1, one the other, some are eyeing taro shitcoins.
OTOH, large operators probably don't want any disturbances and may opt for status quo.
I wonder what goes in discussions between LN operators, especially large ones like @npub148q…jra7 or @npub1hcw…h9rq

imagine you run a restaurant.
with qr codes instead of paper menu, you are less hospitable in a hospitality business. why rid yourself of this one easy thing to compete on?
why force people to use technology to struggle to grasp what they serve? to do what? save on something? on what exactly? because I can't see that being a net positive
do they get approached by restaurant website shills who say it's better ... it's cleaner?

I know there is a class of bitcoiners who learned a lot of solid foundations around computer science philosophy and it's visible in the basest of takes. They leverage experience of giants and have internalized to resist temptations. They exhibit things like:
- KISS
- YAGNI
- Donald Knuth in premature optimization
- Unix philosophy
- Fail fast
- interoperability principle
- Make illegal states unrepresentable
- Chesterton's fence
etc.

Featurism - the desire and perceived benefit of adding features - can spur growth and hype, but can also be a trap.
I have seen a game project where devs (yes, including me) where so high on adding all the exciting ideas we conjured on or dev chat or when drinking beers, that we neglected stability, bugs and listening to users.
One way to identify featurism (at least in a game, where balancing the game is important) is to notice, it after adding a feature, you have to come up with ways for users not to abuse it. Very often, after adding anti-abuse provisions, the features stopped being used.
I learned to see that software can be like breaths of buddha, or whatever:
- the deconstructive inhale is as important as the fertile exhale
Pruning, nomem omen, the feature set can be healing.
Fellow bitcoiner said recently that #BIP110 castrates bitcoin.
Wording suggests it takes away vital functionality. But does it?
It reduces expressiveness of some featurisms. Splicing is not harmed by BIP110, large insertions are. Elastic multisigs still will be possible, protected by grandfathering. No harm there. And these are not vital. There are just nice to haves. Programmatic inheritance is a nice to have.
Truly vital functions of bitcoin are only reinforced and a proper way to defend featurisms is to curb the abuse, or remove completely.
With time, in the game dev, I learned to listen to the most active critics of what we, the devs, did. By tapping in to the player's thinking I was able to make the game better.
All this is to say, that if we were to drop some of the non-vitals, we'd have bitcoin be more like grep, and less like Windows 11 Notepad.
And I use grep with pleasure.

yeah, the staff should accommodate you if you checked in online even if you don't have a phone. they make it free and that's what is their way to stay legal. still, the friction is there because the staff will probably make it slow and inconvenient. About your post above, I think there's a nice idea in it!
Everything kB committed to the blockchain is physical mass and an energy requirement to supply by node runners forever. Here:
- Monetary kBs will provide ongoing network effects for the system. tx is source for txs.
- JPEG kBs will do nothing of the sort
So if:
- core is rotten and they won't cede control,
- permissiveness halts bitcoin from bitcoining in the long run that we need,
then BIP110 has to be attempted because if not, none of the problems are getting sorted and we get more anti-cypherpunk shenanigans:
- bad covenants + suitcoiners + exchanges controlling utxo flow
- fake L2s (KYC, surveillance and capital control)
- ethereumization, bitvm, shitcoinery but on bitcoin
Basically compartmentalization of Bitcoin into a meek and timid crypto-asset.
I don't want that.

I'll be travelling for longer so, I went to a government website to order a card for my European health insurance. What I saw there shocked me:
- they have records of all my visits (even private ones), even a simple 10-minute dermatologist thing was there
- they have records of all the prescription drugs I ordered, including receptomat.pl (which is an online service for getting drugs bypassing the regular doctors)
- they have records of where I bought the drugs that I got from previous point
Even the private sector is in this scheme and they leak the info and help the panopticon build a medical history and profile.
Graphene won't help here.

I think that is actually them acknowledging DATUM exists :-)
It's funny... The only time I saw anybody give more or less equal respect for DATUM and SV2, was a guy talking about P2PoolV2 in a talk from Vienna just recently.
He was praising both academically, as he's building an iteration on p2pool, with a market for shares.
You can honestly evaluate things on their merit, without silly games of ignoring eachother.
That was refreshing and bitcoiners should practice it often.

sad thing is that we've been failing at rejecting it for decades

I know they wanted to perform privacy-invasive scoring of people applying for job benefits and the homeless. Polish NGO was documenting it.
we have to up our game in dismantling whatever traces of scoring persist or are being installed

Good question. I think they took on more than they could bite. Back then optimism for a break in decentralized namespaces was so high, they allowed scope to creep from domains, to identities, to tackling trust-based certificate system. These are all worthwhile endeavors, but it was all too much.
More work cycles went to architecting an overarching system than bridging the gaps in resolvers, etc.

Text: ‼️🚨 ALARMING: Google now treats privacy as suspicious behavior by default. Users of GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, /e/OS, and other deGoogled Android phones are being locked out of millions of websites unless they install the exact Google Play Services software they deliberately removed.
GrapheneOS is recommended by the EFF and used by journalists, lawyers, and activists in high-risk environments. The audience most likely to read Google's data practices and refuse its terms is now flagged as fraudulent for that exact decision.
What happened?:
▪️ Google announced "Cloud Fraud Defense" at Cloud Next on April 22-23, 2026, branding it "the next evolution of reCAPTCHA." Existing reCAPTCHA customers were auto-migrated.
▪️ When the system flags traffic as suspicious, the old click-the-bus puzzle is gone. Users get a QR code instead.
▪️ Scanning the QR code requires Google Play Services running on the device. Internet Archive snapshots show this requirement has been live since at least October 2025, silently rolled out for 7 months before anyone noticed.
▪️ No Play Services = no QR scan = locked out.
The bigger picture:
▪️ Google already tried this in 2023. It was called Web Environment Integrity (WEI), and it would have let Google decide which devices were "real enough" to access the web. Standards bodies and the public pushed back hard, and Google killed it. Three years later, the same idea is back, just hidden behind a QR code instead of a browser feature.
▪️ reCAPTCHA runs on millions of websites. Every developer who keeps using it is now, by default, telling deGoogled Android users they're not welcome...

So the two bands I mentioned are discoveries suggested by a much younger friend. You see, after 2010 or so I kinda stopped looking for new music. I listened to everything old and good (Frank Zappa, Dream Theatre, Steve Vai) and considered new artists to be shit.
There is something to it of course, but music is getting a 4th turning earlier than I thought, so David and Jakub are the surprises which enabled rediscovery of contemporary music.

Thanks. I've a relay based on nostr-rs-relay behind nginx. Had some success with rate limiting requests but that 40GB sqlite file is no fun at this stage.
When heavy users come in it, the load is high, latency increases.
