the managment of this reputation crisis goes a bit like this:
While backpedaling from the demand to fire Tuttle
the credibility of Israel-related antisemitism is protected
by arguing that there is no repression happening against the Palestine solidarity movement in Germany

Es gibt offensichtlich mehr als genug Gründe dafür, authentischen palästinensischen Stimmen kein Gehör zu verschaffen. Die Künste sind eigentlich als Ort jener Freiheit gedacht, die keinen Zugang zum bürgerlichen Wohnzimmer haben soll. Grenzgänge und -überschreitungen sind für die Kunst ebenso lebenswichtig wie die Freiheit, auch unbequemen Positionen Geltung zu verschaffen, um das ganze Potential menschlicher Emanzipation ausloten zu können.
Der deutsche Kulturbetrieb hingegen scheint ein walled garden, ein sorgsam eingehegtes Gebiet zu sein, in dem die Unterwerfung unter Staatsräson und Gewaltmonopol zur Kunstform erhoben sprich hübsch dekoriert und mundgerecht aufbereitet wird.
Nur durch die Affirmation herrschender Gewalten können Subventionen für die Kulturindustrie gerechtfertigt werden.

The crime is not important, it's the leaking of the visual evidence that occupies Israel's media and politics. Even though the genocide in Gaza is out in the open there still seems to remain the will to put up the face of a democratic state committed to the rule of law.
In declaring the perpetrators to be the real heroes defending Israel by any means necessary,

so the Knesset has to invent the death penalty for them to quell any resistance against their settler colonialism as if they aren't the least responsible for any violence between Palestinians and Israelis
there's really nothing left to morally justify for the sake of Israel

So "The Voice of Hind Rajab" will take center state at the Venice Film Festival and might be awarded with one of the most prestigious film awards, the Golden Lion. There seems to be a strong movement among film makers and actors to politicize the festival to show solidarity with the people in Gaza and protest against the genocide and famine they are subjected to by Israel.
That would be especially rewarding as German politicians and media scandalized the words of filmmakers Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham on the stage of the Berlinale in February 2024 as antisemitic. Receiving the Berlinale Documentary Award and the Panorama Audience Award for Best Documentary Film for "No Other Land" they had something to say about the apartheid policy Israel practices in occupied West Bank. That was too much for the managers of Germany's cultural industry to bear.
If Venice turns out to be a big manifestion in supporting Palestinians that would be a support for all activists supporting Palestine and being subjected to state repression for this act of conscience.

Die New York Times hat am 15. Juli einen langen Gastessay von Omer Bartov unter dem Titel "I'm a Genocide Scholar. I Know It When I See It." veröffentlicht, was für diese proisraelische Tageszeitung eine Art Paradigmenwechsel war.
In der FR vertritt Bartov die gleiche Linie mit besonderer Hinwendung zu DE., was bedeutet, dass der unerträgliche Doppelstandard der deutschen Staatsräson und der sie vollziehenden Bundesregierung langsam, aber sicher rechtswirksame Konsequenzen hervorbringt.
Dass das allerdings den repressiven Druck auf die palästinasolidarische Bewegung verringert, wage ich zu bezweifeln. An der Polizeigewalt gegen ihre Aktivist:innen zeigt sich, dass der Kampf für die Befreiung der Palästinenser:innen sehr viel weitergehende, antikolonialistische, antimilitaristische und staatskritische Implikationen hat. Hier könnte sich eine neue Generation basisdemokratischen Widerstands formieren, das weiß diese Regierung sehr genau.

Take it from Richard Falk, a predecessor of Francesca Albanese in the office of Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories Since 1967:
"I would note that Albanese’s reports and talks have done more to achieve an accurate appraisal of Israel behavior in Gaza and more recently, the West Bank, than the whole of the UN staff, and its two political organs — the Security Council and General Assembly"
This quite interesting interview with an insider of the UN administrative apparatus shows that it's mainly a matter of personal courage and conscience whether you use such a position to achieve meaningful impact or just bend to the powers that be.
Albanese has done the former and actually is more than qualified for a position where she is chosen not by political maneuvering like Baerbock, but a candidate of the people, as Falk stresses:
"It is appropriate and a hopeful sign of the changing times that she is mentioned so often as deserving of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, and even to be championed as the people’s choice to be the next UN Secretary General, fitting rejections of the spiteful U.S. sanctions imposed on July 9 of this year."
Of course the Nobel Peace Price often falls prey to political machinations, so such a choice could reinforce its credibility.

In the Sixties young Germans asked their parents how they could have let that happen what everybody knew but only few people tried to fight - the annihilation of German and European Jews in extermination camps like Auschwitz-Birkenau or Treblinka. They often excused themselves answering that they couldn't know for sure what fate awaited their Jewish neighbours after being deported.
Today it's even less credible if people evade into alleging not to know what the Palestinians in Gaza have to endure. Today we have comments in legacy media whose authors openly talk about a genocide happening and people dying by hunger due to the systematic cutting off of life saving ressources.
Will the governments who support Israel in ignoring basic human rights and international law one day held accountable? Western Germany had a lot of Nazis personally responsible for the Holocaust and NS-fascism who not only got off the hook of criminal persecution but who were rewarded for their past as NS-functionaries with high positions in the administrative apparatus and legal institutions of the Bundesrepublik. They could enjoy their pensions while communists who were fighting the Nazis got nothing and were politically repressed even by being jailed again.
Politicians and companies complicit with this genocide will pobably not be prosecuted either - there will be another war or catastrophe even worse than today in whose shadow all will be lost and forgotten ...
"I want to be clear – what is being done to Palestinians in Gaza is barbaric and entirely preventable. I cannot believe we have come to a point where the world is watching as the people of Gaza are forced to endure starvation and gunfire, all while food and medical aid sits across the border just miles away from them."

To assess the genocide in Gaza as the face of the future requires no special expertise or intellectual properties -
it's the simple logic of governments doing this to a group of civilians whether ethnically, nationally or socially defined as such
is able and willing to do this to any other group if the rationality of exerting and upholding state power demands it.
So it's racism for sure to not count the dead of a non-white population as it is done with any white Christian group - compare for example the reporting about victims of Russian aggression in Ukraine and victims of Israel's genocide in Gaza and the settler colonialism in WestBank in Western media, the normalized ignorance about refugees drowned in the Mediterranean and the help Western tourists will get in a situation their life is endangered in a country of the Global South.
But above that it's the logic of Machiavellin decisionism meaning any means to remain in power and to overcome the enemy de jour legitimizes genocidal policies of all kind - in the end against the own population if it dares to attack the ruling class order.

Increasing the brutality of warfare especially against civlians, killing journalists by the dozens, misusing humanitarian rhethoric as euphemisms of annihilation,
producing famine intentfully in a strip of land that is already an open air prison from where people cannot flee in greater numbers and evade their destruction
whith full support by the allies of Israel
represents in my opinion the anticipation of future wars, a systematic effort to normalize states of emergency and martial law
to legitimize the suppression of civil disobedience and antimilitaristic as anticapitalistic protest.
The de-facto acceptance of genocide is imo not so much about Israel as such as many think because of the special status of this outpost of Western imperialism
but an exercise in crisis management for times of social unrest which will certainly erupt when climate catastrophe produces famine even in rich industrialized countries.
Concentrating executive powers in fewer hands against the will of the people isn't happening only under authoritarian regimes
but is the preferred choice in countries like the US as the suppression of small protest events in Los Angeles with the full force of the federal state has shown.
So Gaza is imo a laboratory of HighTech counterinsurgency driven and legitimized by Israel's settler colonialism and the preparation of more robust methods of control
as populations in late stage capitalism tend to resist against being exploited by wage work with less and less income or being written off totally as unproductive surplus populations whose existence is of no use for the accelerated automation of industrial productivity.
This gets evident if you look at the technical innovation being employed by IT-capital in the occupation of Palestine and the profits made by those enterprises in direct connection with the millitary use of their products. IT and AI are the drivers of an accumulation regime that has made capitalism so productive that it has overtaken demand ever more igniting more and more social crisis. One outcome is the general move to invest more state money for militarization which is a quite inefficient form of spendung public money.
All this can be perfectly studied by listening to Naomi Klein and Francesca Albanese presenting her very important report about the relation between IT-innovation, capitalism, warfaring states and booming stock markets.

While governments put their fiscal income into more armament they prepare for future state wars which will be mainly about securing access to fossil and mineral ressources

Es tut sich etwas im deutschen Regierungsbetrieb, wenn nun sogar eine Mitarbeiterin der vom Außenministerium finanzierten Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) in Berlin öffentlich konkrete Maßnahmen wie den "sofortigen Lieferstopp von Waffen, die im Gazastreifen oder im Westjordanland eingesetzt werden können, sowie die Unterstützung einer Überprüfung des EU-Israel-Assoziierungsabkommens" fordert.
Bei allen opportunistischen Winkelzügen, die zu vermuten sind, wenn 19 Monate zugeschaut wird, bevor sich irgend etwas tut, was mit der deutschen Staatsräson bricht, eine doch erfreuliche Entwicklung.
Diese müsste jetzt allerdings noch mit einer spürbaren Rücknahme der Repression gegen die palästinasolidarische Bewegung einhergehen, die alles dafür getan hat, dass auch politische Resultate erzielt werden.

Remember the infamous killing of retreating Iraqui troops on the Highway of Death 2003? It was a massacre on soldiers who presented no danger to US troops but got killed by A-10 Gunships and Apache helicopters anyhow. What some dubbed cynically as "Turkey shooting" was condemned as a war crime by others.
Now they shoot defenseless children from the air which is a a lot worse but nobody at least in Germany would call this a war crime. They prefer to ignore anything that could harm the image of the IDF as a military committed to the high ground of sound moral judgement . There's no amount of cynicism I can imagine to comment on this.

On the X-account "Vivid" - "PROUD JEWISH PROUD ZIONIST" - 257.5 K followers - a video of Palestinians celebrating the ceasefire shouting "Alluh Akbar" is published. While the ideology of political Islam should be - as any nationalistic patriarchal religious doctrine - be critizised as such - the same is valid for the comment of Vivid: "Animals."
Instead of distancing herself from this racist insult the well known German TV-Journalist Bettina Böttinger shares Vivid's post and comments:
"No, Animals have dignity, which those idiots have not."
"Nein, Tiere habe die Würde, die diese Idioten nicht haben."
So, once again, German journalism at its best.
People who show the slightest sympathy for Palestinians on X, show empathy for their plight or share the wrong posts might suffer harsh consequences for their careers and reputation. Nothing like that happens if you humiliate victims of war and oppression as long as Palestinians are in your crosshairs.

Of course the Palestinians arrested by Israel are political prisoners taken by an illegal occupation force. As long as there is no equality before the law all juridic terms belittle the violence of settler colonialism.
That is even more so if Palestinians - and that means children too - end up in administrative detention where they are held as long as it serves the interests of the occupier without due legal process.
As the IDF can take prisoners arbitrarily they can alway tap an obviously inexhaustible reservoir of de facto hostages they keep as bargaining chips for exchanges against Israeli prisoners or hostages.
The whole relation between occupier and occupied is extremely asymmetric which media try to cover up in turning this power relation upside down.

Of course I know how problematic it is to realize this utopian plan, as long as people have forgotten, that they carry their animal nature around with them and are, other than nonhuman animals, able to expand and maximize their predatory drives and social darwinistic behaviour up to the limits of planetary capability.
What we have is a sad state of affairs going deeper down the drain each day - climate catastrophe in full swing yielding false solutions of green capitalism and #colonialism, imperial entities about to cross the threshold of nuclear war, a #genocide in the making while the world stands by watching how Palestinians have to endure living hell, an even greater catastrophe in Sudan that is hardly being noticed at all, #fascism rising welcomed by millions ...
And while a lot of arguments for eco socialism are valid the problem remains the same - you'd need a new kind of human to live in a non hierarchichal way without competition which always is directed against the other.
So I don't invest any hope in future designs although they have their use in reflecting my own relations to life and society
but try to stick to principles in daily life
like not exercising violence against sentient beings, to meet the requirements of a non competitive collectivism, to overcome nationalism for the sake of internationalism, to end binary gender relations and the necessity to organize in stately entities especially as they exert colonial, imperialistic and extractivistic policies.
As you have noticed I don't adhere to Marxism-Leninism - as much as I dislike authoritarian party structures I don't favor a kind of technological positivism
that today is rampant in developing productive forces like #AI that come along with promises that imo will turn out as an increase of social and military war due to the obvious crisis of late capitalism.

What carries the contradiction between the declared intent to always abide the law and the actual negation of fundamental moral norms by the authoritarian principle of Staatsräson over the top
is that this happens in a country that carries the historic guilt of the Holocaust
praising itself to be a world champion in acknowledging this burden and acting accordingly by honoring the rule of humanitarian and international law
while actually ignoring every lesson resulting out of this singular crime
by being complicit in the mass murder of indirect victims of the Holocaust who lost the greater part of their land in the process of building a state for the victims of German fascism condemning them to live a life of colonized subjects,
who now are all the more humiliated
firstly by Germany watching as they are killed without any justified reason in the name of Israel
secondly by legitimizing this in granting the perpetrator a right of self defence justified by the sole crime of the massacre from 7th October 2023 committed by Hamas,
a right that seems to have an eternity clause and never runs out of validity no matter how high the cost for the indiscriminately punished Palestinians
and thirdly by implementing pressure on German citizens to incite fear so that they never speak out against this crime even though the risk of stepping out of the conforming masses is far lower than what every Palestinian under Israeli occupation has to endure.

Watch European governments suddenly waking up as in some cases like Italy their own troops in UN-gear are attacked by Israel in Southern #Lebanon.

This is not a mere bias, this is blanking out the reality of the victims, who one year after 10/7 are disproportionally maimed and killed by Israel and not by Hamas or other actors on the side of the so-called Axis.
So these Western #networks and legacy #media make themselves complicit in a way that actually might be justiciable under International Law. But as these journalists are mostly coopted by the ideology of their governments - see "Staatsräson" - who tend to ignore supranational treaties like the UN Charta all the more their values and rules based order is ignored by themselves
the whitewashing of the #genocide in #Gaza is euphemistically subjected to the freedom of press, which seems to exhaust itself in the freedom to be an intellectual warrior on the side of Western imperialism.
At least in Germany you can get a lot of problems if you try to cover those realities media mainly ignore because it's doesn't fit their narrative of Israel only defending itself. There are already legislative proposals drafted that could make it a crime to discuss freely about Israel's war crimes or use the term genocide in this context.
What is generally labeled #antisemitism and specified as "related to Israel" ("israelbezogen")
so you don't need be identified an antisemite in the classical sense of the word
- alleging a Jewish world conspiracy or identifying war crimes with Jews and not the state of Israel while official government wording equals Jewishness and Israel without being critized in their incorret semantics -
will result in narrowing public discourse even more than today as the #Palestine solidarity movement is cancelled regularily and even Jewish people are not safe from being accused of antisemitism because they oppose Israel's occupation policy and war strategy.
This will create precedents of controlling any wording that will harm all kinds of politicial discussion and social activism.
However I believe Israel has lost the "information war" already not at last because the official apology of IDF practices in Gaza has to be enforced with repressive means
because they can't suppress the anger about Western governments supporting Israel's war crimes anymore.
That again might give practices of self organizing social resistance a push that is long overdue and sets a hopeful example in the Palestine solidarity movement.

With #Gaza on their mind Lebanese people have to endure harsh anxiety and stress just thinking about the not so far-fetched possibility that they will have to suffer a similar carnage as Palestinians are subjected to since nearly a year.
For Israel it seems to pay out having attacked Gaza in the most brutal and cruel way. They can take advantage from the existencial fear inside of #Lebanon where people know by their own experience what Israel is able and willing to do in occupation and war.

The cynical phrase "de-escalation through escalation" which Israel used to legitimize the pager attacks enters a new level of brutality by waging open war against Lebanon while once again selling it as a measure of "self-defence".

This wasn't meant as personal critique but solely as an addition to the problem of animal exploitation in regard to the "humane" treatment of "livestock".
The article is interesting also because fish farming often is underrated in the vast dimensions and the gigantic risks it poses for marine health. Just because it's out of view for most people doesn't mean that it's in any way better than the usual Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO).

All in all, we have to summarize that most of the culturally significant places in Gaza were either irretrievably destroyed or severely damaged. What this orgy of destruction is supposed to mean in terms of the “art of war” is easy to understand. Destroy the enemy completely! Take his life, his family, his dignity, his house, his street and his cultural identity. We know Heine's saying: “Where you burn books, you end up burning people”, but what does a list of blown-up libraries in Gaza tell us? Especially when we realize that the Western values have not spoken with one voice this time. Gaza is the focal point of all liberation struggles worldwide. All the contradictions of imperialism have coagulated there into blood and rubble. However, the empire continues to totter and is increasingly rotting. That gives hope.

Yes, it is a simplification, but imo a valid one, because the nation state provides the identity that produces an enmity between people regardless of the multitude of subjectivities they perform
that can result in waging bloody wars against each other.
Of course there are differences in the policies that governments employ and there is some room to maneuver in certain areas like social transfers or market rules.
But in the end imo the crisis of not being able to avoid waging brutal wars let alone to tackle climate catastrophe thereby taking the risk of large destructions of livelihoods into account results in taking the road of national expansion and domination against others as the most practical way of survival
not of all people worldwide but of those who have the bigger economic and military impact against those who are locked into a state of unsustaining wage worke and ressource extraction.
I have no better idea than to identifiy nationalism and its maximization as fascim as the main axis of global disruption of course alltogether driven by capitalism as producing ever bigger bubbles of debt driven fictive capital.
To prolong the existence of this global system everything that unites people and makes them capable of collectively acting in their interest stands in the way of those who are in the position of making decisions first and foremost to serve their personal ambitions.
So competition stands not only between people as atomized market subjects but is engrained in the logics of states acting as personified power subjects.

Francesca Albanese represents the positive voice of the UN, the ideal that states could actually solve their problems peacefully under the rule international law.
Sadly it's not like this, states act more than ever since WW2 as entrepreneurs of military and economic power, as subjects totally determined by a competition that they themselves institutionalized in the form of neoliberal #capitalism that has minimized the agency of state and juridical actors quite a bit.
Palestinians and other people who have to bear the brunt of this militarized form of state competition have no say in this, that's why the UN and international courts have to act as their representatives.
If there' be more people like Francesca Albanese who don't only follow their career ambitions in these suprastate institutions that could make quite a difference
