It’s with a heavy heart that I share that neither I nor Lykke will be attending this year’s conference in Prague.
I’ve been a proud supporter of @nprofile…py4c since its inception, honored to be among the first speakers, deliver the opening address in the inaugural year, and champion the event enthusiastically ever since. It’s been a joy to witness the conference grow into such a vibrant gathering.
Last year, my daughter truly shined—adding value to the privacy panel, conducting insightful interviews, volunteering at side events like Rockamoto, and even running her own cookies-for-sats business. Her energy and passion made me very proud.
While I had the privilege of delivering last year’s closing speech, I’ll admit it didn’t go as planned—I stumbled through it and didn’t quite hit the mark 😊
We understand that events evolve, and this year, the organizers have chosen a different direction, as we haven’t been invited to participate. After inquiring about attendance, we were kindly offered a small discount on passes, but we’ve decided to respectfully step back and let others shine.

I don't understand how the 80-byte limit on OP_RETURN is more arbitrary than any of Bitcoin's other standards.
Why halving every 210k blocks?
Why supply capped at ~21M?
Why diff. adjustment every 2 weeks?
Why average 10 minute block time?
Why 4MB effective block size?
Etc.
Taken separately, they can all be construed as arbitrary, but together they make up an extraordinarily resilient and elegant network with only one truly non-arbitrary standard:
Follow the standards of the network to have your transaction included in the next available block, or be rejected.
So my opinion: I like our standards. They work. I'd be loath to fuck with them more than we already have.
Which is already a bit more than I would have liked, TBH.
Ps' I'm not a dev and this is my first venture into these debates.

I just had the pleasure of testing a brand new JADEPLUS hardware wallet (courtesy of @nprofile…6av2) and I'm deeply impressed.
The setup was such a breeze that my 11 year old daughter was able to complete it in less than 15 minutes, unassisted. Including 2FA multisig.
We then set up watch-only credentials so my wife and I can track the kids' accounts with ease through the Green wallet app.
Yet I was really struck by the versatility. Power-users will find this device as satisfying as your grandma will. Without any clutter.
The solid buttons, big beautiful screen, and stable connection are also big improvements from my experience with the original JADE.
If I can find a drawback it's that one of the buttons, while solid, was less responsive than the others, causing minor navigation errors.
Bravo to the @nprofile…6av2 team. 9/10 would recommend.

For the $MSTR people, help me out with some stupid questions:
As I understand it, the $MSTR strategy ends when fiat is worth the same as sea shells and no one will sell their Bitcoin to @npub15dq…lm5m for them anymore.
What I'm not clear about is how to convert $MSTR to Bitcoin at that point? Or even leading up to that point? Why would anyone part with their Bitcoin after the strategy is played out?
And if those holding $MSTR then can't offload their stock for Bitcoin, yet $MSTR holds vast amounts of Bitcoin it will never sell, will that make $MSTR a currency?
Is $MSTR the Amsterdam Wisselbank of Bitcoin? Could it inflate the supply by issuing stock? Is this how Bitcoin becomes the reserve for a new fiat called $MSTR?

Nope, Empires are peak inflation.
They require far more resources and coordination than individuals would ever muster voluntarily.
The seeds of their certain collapse is already planted when hard money begins to emerge among the people.
Only after a long period of feudalism, rising out of a destitute dark age, will the hard money again be concentrated enough to inflate a new civilization.

I don't want to pretend like I'm unreservedly happy right now.
I organized Scandinavia's first #Bitcoin conference and fucked up the budget really bad. Got depressed and stupidly found brief comfort in drugs. Having suddenly lost so many hard earned sats I had held for years made it feel like nothing mattered anymore. Before I knew it, I had wasted what little I had left in a self-destructive spiral. I will never be able to earn them back and I still wake up with a panic attack every few nights. My kids keep me going, but also racked with guilt 😔
I'll never stop stackin' though and I'm never spending another sat in my life!

I see the analogy but I think it's a bit more complex when people are actually dying right now and there is no clear path, or even any path, to a Ukrainian victory (defined as return of territories). Should the shopowner keep fighting the shoplifter or let hin go and focus on improving his security for next time? And yes, I understand that you'll say the shoplifter will be encouraged to return, so it won't increase future security, but it might still be the best bet. I haven't personally concluded on this but I'm more pragmatic than you'd probably appreciate. I still appreciate you though 🧡

Do you ever worry about 'The Spirit of 1914'? 😬
At the outbreak of war, enthusiasm ran high among many young Germans. This would be the adventure of a life time, an opportunity to shape the new century and return home with glory and honor.
Their unfettered optimism is easy to understand.
There hadn't been a major war engulfing the continent since Napoleon over a century earlier. No one knew how all the technological, economic, military and cultural developments since would play out in an actual conflict. But they were quite excited to find out and certain it would be over by Christmas.
Does that sound eerily familiar?
Fast forward four years and 40 million people had been killed or maimed in battle. By 1945, as many as 125 million were lost. Without even counting the countless victims of communism.
I sometimes see ghosts of that same madness in our current zeitgeist, that same exhilarating acceleration of history leading us into utter darkness.
Let's pray that I am wrong, but don't you ever worry?

My daughter's went to a Montessori kindergarten and we had great results, but they was also down to fantastic staffing. In some sense, all online learning is Montessori, if you provide the right boundaries.

How do we actually fix education? 🤔
Everyone seems to agree that our current model is hopelessly stuck in the industrial age, where students sit in neat rows completing mundane tasks to make them good factory workers.
Yet I haven't seen many real platforms or proposals on what education should be like.
Is homeschooling the only way? 🤷
I'm sure there must be other ideas out there.
Enlighten me.

9th of November is FOUR of the most important dates in German history - the Day of Fate.
In 1918, it was the day of the German Revolution, when the Republic was proclaimed, ending the Second Reich and WWI.
In 1923, it was the day of the failed Munich Putsch, landing Hitler in prison, where he fatefully wrote 'Mein Kampf'.
In 1938, it was the Night of Broken Glass, when Jews were hunted in a pogrom heralding the coming of the Holocaust.
And in 1989, it was the Fall of the Berlin Wall, which reunited a torn nation and ended the Cold War.
It's impossible to explain how profoundly these events shaped my life and that of all Europeans.
My wife and I were born on opposite sides of the Iron Curtain, our dark inheritance from nightmares of the past.
Today, we honor the countless victims by celebrating our freedom in gratitude.
A toast to those who are gone, but not forgotten.
