if nostur is doing what you need then use nostur. What’s the point of bashing every client that doesn’t have a feature you want. Clients will always have diverging feature sets and priorities. Ours is expanding to other platforms at the moment.

This is the coolest and most advanced piece of software i have ever worked on. the amount of optimization and engineering that went into this thing is nuts. The beginnings of a nostr browser for all platforms, with p2p and bitcoin wallet capabilities built in.
You won’t have to be a bitcoin or nostr wizard to build the next 100,000 nostr apps.
A future where apps automatically interoperate with each other and have bitcoin+zaps integrated with zero fuss.
A future where users are in control of all their data across all the apps they use.
The only way this will happen is if making a nostr app is as easy as making a webpage with a few lines of code. That is the longterm goal of #notedeck, and we’re just getting started.

now that I think about it, any nostr node could join a nostr multicast group via IGMP. Then anytime you post, it could be sent to alls other nostr nodes on your local network. you wouldn't need internet relays for corporate networks. your nostr apps could communicate on your local network without internet.
would be a cool tech demo.

we should stop calling clients that talk to a centralized server instead of relays a "nostr client". Otherwise this will lead to confusion when the app goes down and they think nostr is unreliable, which may irreversibly damage nostr's reputation.
if you make a web browser that doesn't fetch from websites directly and instead uses some centralized server to do this for you, you wouldn't call this a web browser.

The damus lightning node made $116 from routing $18,194 worth of payments this year. We also made $21,000 from lightning purple subscriptions, which helped paid a portion of daniel's salary (our only part-time employee).
It aint much, but it's a start. With purple, HRF, and OpenSats, Damus has been able to build out slowly without VC funds. Hopefully we can keep this up. I thought this was going to be our last year but the LTS funds kept the dream alive a little longer.
Clients have got a *lot* better, but we're still insanely early. nostr is going to continue to get better and better. People will continue getting deplatformed on bluesky, activitypub and the big tech silos. We are one of the few lines of defense against internet censorship and government tyranny, and the first large scale experiment that enables true value for value transfer between sovereign individuals online.
This movement is just beginning, and ya'll are on the front line.

inter-app communication in notedeck is achieved by sending notes to the internal relay.
example: in notedeck-columns you can "pin" or "bookmark" a note into your notebook, which is a separate notedeck app. both apps only talk to the local internal relay, so everything just works and yet they are isolated.
this means any app within the notedeck browser can work together, even if you are offline.

because most users have no idea what an lnurl is. expecting users to go update that after connecting a wallet is insane. most users will not have a separate send and receive, this is already way too complicated. for users who want this setup they can adjust manually after NWC connection.

notedeck has an embedded nostr relay (nostrdb), which means every ui function will always work regardless of network connection. I call this the local relay model. It’s literally impossible for it to “go down” or “not load”.
Once we add an outbox (soon), all actions you have done since you were offline will be automatically synced to relays.
I think this is better because you never have to wait to start using it, you can use it on planes, and you can build powerful offline-first apps like nostr mail clients which I am planning to add as a notedeck app. #note1g79…gggp

#LoRA makes me bullish on #ai hacking on consumer hardware while still leveraging large pretrained models as a base. It works by putting lower rank matrices at each layer of the transformer stack in a larger base model like llama and training those.
The base model’s weights are frozen, but you can train these low-rank “adapters” which are much smaller and require less memory/compute.
Nice thing about fine tuning is that you are basically teaching the ai new things that it won’t forget all the time. So we can give it lots of domain knowledge about nostr, nips, etc. hardest part is setting up a good training dataset.

typst is a simpler alternative to latex and has a simple markdown-like grammar. I propose we use this in some nostr science longform spec. It’s super fast too!

nostr needs maybe a couple thousand dollars a month to keep the lights on. Clients already exist and running relays is insanely cheap. Damus will keep working even money runs out. You can’t say the same about bluesky
