My souvenir from Japan was a bunch of stationery items.
Incredibly high quality and incredibly cheap, even considered the low value of the yen.
It really makes you think when a bottle of ink is sold for £40 in the UK, and in Japan is just 2,200 yen, which is about £9 !!!
I mean, I get the import taxes and shit, but come on, somebody gotta be robbing us here.

In a quick turn of events I've switched from qtile to KDE. Basically the first time ever I'm stable on Wayland (since I can load ICC profiles for my monitors).
I gotta say KDE is just phenomenal, super customisable. I'm not using any TWM plugins, but I've recreated my virtual desktops setups and all my keybindings, so it feels like home and it's a polished and complete desktop system, for a change.
I love it!

I don't think anyone is supposed to "get" Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics at their first read. It's way too dense.
I think of it as mapping out the book, get some bearings and a feeling for Aristotle's thinking.
Nevertheless some sections are more "accessible" than others, e.g. I'm now reading the part about friendship and love and it's very relatable, it feels immediately useful.
Anyway, I'm almost through the whole book now and it's been a trip, for sure.

I've just finished the second novel of the Earthsea saga.
I liked it much more than the first one. I loved Tenar more than I loved Ged. She felt more human, more well rounded, and relatable. The world building in the first part of the book was interesting, bleak and ritualistic, and of a ancient earthy flavour.
Le Guin's prose is always such a pleasure as well, not a word too much not a word too few, she has this power of conjuring something pure in my mind, that I love.

I've just finished reading The Dispossessed by U.K. Le Guin.
I have no words. I just wanna go live on Anarres now. I'd accept all the challenges, to live a truer life, a free-er life, in many ways.
This is the kind of reads that I love. Not just entertaining but that makes you think, and see things differently. It enriches you, and leave you emotional at the same time.
I'm going to read A Wizard of Earthsea now. I just have to at this point, and I'm sure I'll love it.

We’re planning our next trip to Japan! We’re going to stay in Kyoto and Tokyo like last year, and we’re looking for another place to visit as an overnight stay that is less urban and more into the nature. Last time we went to Kinosaki Onsen and we absolutely loved it.
Any recommendations for some nice small towns? We’re going in May next year.

yeah I had the same dilemma, I think you should just try it and see how it runs. If you dedicate the whole rbpi to just nextcloud it might be running ok, I wanted to run some other services as well.

I’ve been looking to do the same but I’ve been told against running nextcloud on a pi, it’s just too demanding for the hardware. But if I was to do it, I’d go with headless debian/ubuntu on the pi and then the official docker container of nextcloud: https://github.com/nextcloud/all-in-one

you have two options:
- Pay for someone to install and manage your peertube instance (managed hosting, like we do here)
- Install an instance yourself (self-hosting)
I'd personally suggest managed hosting like https://fedihost.co/hosting/peertube
But if your really wanna get into self hosting you can start with yunohost:

Either way I'm pretty sure you can get a lot of help here on the Fediverse/Mastodon if you wanna start hosting your own PeerTube instance!

I don't know the tech specifics as to why it's happening but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to uninstall all the @npub1m9z…whzq apps from my devices once again. This is not the first time this happened.
There's a wave of spammers that notify all the users in a room with some awful images, both of gruesome deaths and CP.
Happened twice today, in the @npub13yw…77zg room and @npub1hxz…r8sj as well.
Why I can only see this shit happening on Matrix, I wonder? How does moderation work in there?

I know it's worth it but fucking hell there's a lot of layers of abstraction to go through and "digest"...
Definitely overkill for my CRUD application, but again, it's a learning opportunity I guess.

After looking more into it, the #Mozilla #Firefox data selling situation is pretty worrisome. Either in good faith or bad faith, Mozilla is just not good at its job at this point, therefore making them untrustworthy in my eyes.
I've been giving a shot at a few alternatives, and I think I'll stick to #Waterfox .
I can easily rebuild my workflow with it.
#Librewolf would be better but it breaks too many things for my taste, and honestly I don't have fucking fingerprinting levels of paranoia.

I've been out of the VFX / Motion graphics loop for quite a while now, but fucking hell I saw the other day they closed both The Mill and MPC in #London!
Literally the two institutions of Motion #design and #VFX here.
I've never had the pleasure to work for them but they were the most sought after studios for any ambitious designer in London, and I know plenty of people that did some amazing projects with them, especially at The Mill.
What a shame.

definitely, that's where you can define anything about the drives and partitions on your system, from permissions to names, and everything else.
You see, I have no clue how Linux Mint settings manages drives, but I know how to use fstab and so I don't even care which distro I'm using anymore. Have a look here for fstab:

I don't consider myself (too) old yet. I'm 44. I wear glasses because I'm slightly shortsighted (just about 0.5 per eye) with a hint of astigmatism.
I look at screens all day though, and I can feel my sight getting tired in the evening.
Anyway, I have now developed this paranoia that when I build something for the web I tend to use way too large font sizes...
It's undeniable that I quite often scale up the UIs on my screens to read better, recently.
Now this makes me feel old.

Just ordered an old fashioned in a jazz listening bar in Shibuya. It’s raining outside, inside is darker but warmer, the music is soothing, some Japanese piano solo album, more neoclassical than jazz. The owner only plays vinyl records from his own collection and of his own choice. It’s me and him right now.

Don't you think it's about time to stop cloning corporate apps into the #Fediverse and maybe focusing on building something better? I mean, it's a great exercise but it could be so much better.
Asking this to myself as well.
