After I fainted the other night, I remarked that it felt like my brain had rebooted. There was a discordant blat of sound and voice fragments right before the reboot.
I just hope that whatever update was installed does something about this long covid bug.

This is my brain, every day, all day long, since getting long COVID in 2022. Doing anything requires an immense effort. I had to retire early because I could no longer do my job.

It is based primarily on trail usage. In the northeast trails are also maintained in as wild a condition as possible. Ladders and stairs only get installed when visitor numbers get so high that people start causing erosion, or making informal bypass trails.
The white mountain national@forest receives over 4 million visitors a year, and most of those are concentrated in a small number of areas.

No, this is not the time to be ramping up your fundraising emails. This is time for you to be making some good trouble. Stop trying to play the same politics-as-usual game. It’s over. No, you do not need a campaign war chest because there will not be fair elections in 2026.
Now, get up out of your chair, gather all of your staff, and actually do something. Join the rest of us in protesting. Not a 5-minute photo op. Real protest.
And, update your damn ActBlue mailing lists, because I opted out of that ish years ago, and new groups just keep sending me requests for money.

After reading the late Steve Silverman ‘s Neuro Tribes, I think I understand why I and so many other adults are only now discovering our autism. I won’t go into the details because you should read Neuro Tribes. When I was a kid in the 1960s and 1970s, autism in the USA was specifically defined as to exclude all of us, because we were verbal.
I am actually glad it worked out that way, because it means I missed being saddled with the label of a disorder. The disorder is in society, not in me. I have always known this, since early childhood.
It is why I gravitated to novels that explored other possible societies, from the Chronicles of Narnia to the Lord of the Rings to Dune to the worlds of Alliance-Union, Known Space, the Culture, and beyond. The genres that came to be known as science fiction and fantasy were staples feeding my voracious appetite for words.
As a youngster, I also explored everything I could from different religions to those ads in the back of books for the Rosicrucians. I went to catholic mass with my catholic friends, broke bread and drank consecrated wine with my German friends in the Evangelische Kirche, celebrated Pesach with my Jewish friends, read the Bible in two languages (King James version and Jörg Zink’s German adaptation), and spent days and nights in the woods celebrating the seasons with my@friends who would now be called neo-pagan.
Of course, when D&D first came out, I was right there, building better worlds with my friends, role-playing characters of different genders and species. I watched Star Trek TOS with my dad, eagerly awaiting each new episode on our black-and-white portable television from Sears with the broken aerial replaced by a wire coat hanger.
No concluding paragraph because the story goes on.
(Although, this is one of those posts that started as a response, and quickly grew to be a journal entry. But I’m still leaving it here.)

Heading to a “stat” referral to an ophthalmologist after seeing the optometrist yesterday. Just putting this out there in the world. I hope it is nothing major and just another of those weird long covid things, however looking up “optic disk edema” last night was probably a mistake.
Oh, and of course today is the first day of my new retiree insurance.

Most résumés never get to the hiring manager. Usually, most of them are filtered out in the online portal based on requirements specified by the hiring company. The remainder often go to HR, which does a second winnowing step, and only then do the small set of remaining résumés get forwarded to the hiring manager for review.

The hyperloop appears to have been another hallucination by Musk Al to slow down high speed rail. We don’t need unproven tubes of vacuum to get high speed rail. Countries around the world already have high-speed rail running over 250 kph. All we have to do is build it. And we have plenty of places to build it; just take a couple of lanes of those huge freeways and interstates.

My religion:
Spirit is in everything. There are no gods. People claiming otherwise are deluded or trying to sell me something. Associating with deluded people who will not accept help in freeing themselves from delusion is an unproductive waste of my life and makes me less well. Associating with people who are trying to sell me something is offensive to my religion.
