So I've been following this whole PSPS issue, but not exhaustively
My (amateur-hour) executive summary:
So Cal Edison (under the advice of its lawyers, I feel sure) has decided it's easier and cheaper to just cut off power to its customers en masse, for as long as it feels necessary, rather than suffer any possible legal exposure due to wind-downed power lines starting any wild fires that destroy any private property

Pretty amazing to start (on the YT vid) at about 2:30 HST and scrub forward in time
Really gets going about 2:55 local time (time-date stamp @ upper left)
Camera finally pans right about 4:17 and the crater rim off camera right comes into view and the first real perspective of where this all is, relative to past eruptions, come into view
My imagination makes me think I can make out that spatter cone off on the far right side that was so prominent in the last big eruption I followed

Just going to pop in here (as a former SoCal resident - grew up there) and as a former geology minor at uni) to drop a screenshot showing the "Mendocino Transform" transverse fault which pretty much lies under that east-west trending series of epicenters trending out to the Big One
Transform faults define the boundaries of transform plates, where lateral movement is accommodated along long linear fault lines like the San Andreas

This is going to be interesting to watch
I'm on Vashon Island, central Puget Sound, mid-island, my 2fl office facing east
Been dead-calm still all day, with maybe one quick leaf-flutter some while ago
At 2:20 pm PST just had an extended spell of full leaf and then branch movement
At 2:30 back dead-calm still...
And now the leaves are back fluttering

Hurricanes degrade into tropical storms over land -- over which Helene has been for at least 24 hours now

But my real point (which I didn't bother to explain fully) remains the same, and it applies (going forward) to any similar situation
These are *not* people who are *choosing* to leave Twitter
These are people who are forcibly being *prevented* from using Twitter against their will
Why does this instantly translate into a cohort of people we want on Mastodon?
I just don't get it

Anyone still on Twitter cannot fail to know what they've been supporting
So, what does being #Brazilian change about anything?
