So guys i haven't been around for a while,

I've been working on the issue called "how to sell nostr to a normie?"
It dosen't `require` code.
But it's kinda wierd and diffuclt and challenging in it's own way.
So i've been showing nostr to different people i've met for over 1 year,
i thought that was the least i could do.
But nobody wants it.
Not a single normie bites, and i think it's because of the smells.

The problem as you noticed is that internet nodes follow a contract on which packets to relay, traffic rules are strictly hierarchical.
Solving problems with supernodes will increase resource requirements indefinitely.
Prior works that provide overlay routing and transport are: TOR/onion and Batman-router.
DHTs are very efficient for service discovery, but tricky to establish a link.
My suggestion... hmm. If you want to hear it, ask.

A batch of V-modems arrived the other day.

Current status: flash block storage, SWAP protocol, negentropy sync implemented.
They communicate with eachother but the js-websocket wrapper needs to be ported in order to read/post notes using a phone.
A prototype skin has also been designed, haven't sent it to the printshop cause it dosent sit right yet.
If anyone is interested in aiding an IRL version of Nostr using tiny portable relays, speak up! :-)

I ditched NAN and hacked the wifi beacons to contain relay/node data.
And now I'm stuck on configuring TCP/IP for a whole day.
IPv6 linklocal nets seems like my last hope, the scope/zone parameter seems to what SO_BINDINTERfACE didn't.
Basically when i ran the tests on IPv4 the nodes associated with eachother but the TCP client connections seemed to prefer connecting to their own localhosts instead of eachother.
This was supposed to be the easy part! 🤦‍♂️

My country is being invaded by NATO as we speak. Radio is broadcasting fear and distrust to soften the people towards US bases and atomic caches.

Aha! I get it now, if we open 1k channel on each side, the reason for the cap is that it's basically btc held in statis, it literary is a harrypotter showdown.
I can only earn +1k because that's the amount of force you're pushing my way, I can earn up to your share, closing the channel with me getting 100% and you zero. Okay wait. One more try:
A channel is basically a table where two parties put an equal amount of coins onto, and whatever happens from there it's up to those two parties to decide and keep track of who owns the bigger part of the pile. (If disagree they tableflip and walk away with half each)
The routing seems to be a layer ontop, where they volunteer to use their pile to help others make transactions. But the two parties can never leave the table with more coins than what was stacked in the beginning.

So this is a question I should've asked a lot earlier.
But quick tip for all newcomers, there are currently 4 ways to play the game called #nostr.
- Easy: Sign up with zap-platform, gl with cashout.
- Normal: touch tips with friend, start channeling value the way lightning was intended.
- Hardcore: find a nostrian you support, and copy/paste their LNurl into your profile.
- Nightmare: There is no zaps/crypto. There are only bought words and then there is truth.

I'm still half conviced that the conflicts are erupting because of failed trust systems, and the emergence of trustless/distrust systems.
It looks to me as if the first world, is trying to push the frontlines using money, buying media and fireworks.

Before REST/JSON api's were a thing, the big corporations gathered in a closed room and devised and debated the future design of web2.
Then they published their results as formal W3C specs which were known as SOAP/XML.
It was a synthetic spec based on predictions and requirements instead of real world usecases.
And as a result it was so darn complex and dependency heavy that it never saw any real adoption.

Same here, I think it's very difficult to have productive exchange over wire. Much apprenticed.
I don't think there is a fallacy in my perspective but I agree that it is unlikely that hashpower will be used in disregard to cost/benefit.
To mine bitcoin you need bring a competitive amount of hashpower for it to be worth the cost. If PoW was as widespread on nostr as on bitcoin your words must carry enough value or be part of a sponsored/collective agenda in order to be mined. I think NIP-13 paves the way for a new actor to emerge in the network, namely the "publisher" a.k.a middle man.
This happened when the press was invented, and book production became cheap. The results were consorship, discrimination, regulation and centralization. please bear with me.
The price of spamming today is not 0.
Spammer pays electricity/bandwidth but relays shoulders the bulk of the costs, as a user i'm not that bothered by spam (yet).
The majority of genuine users are always going to use the cheapest mass produced lowpower hardware. Spammers with an incentive to advertise are always going to use beefy desktops or botnets.
No spam is ever produced by battery powered mobile phones, which will be the first device class to starve if we set their food on fire.
I agree that 30 units of PoW today, while nostr is a tiny underground network - makes a lot of sense. But PoW is a force of nature that once ignited, cannot be extinguished, Bitcoin is living proof of that..
- NIP-13 is maliciously anti-plebian but most likely accidental/incompetence.
- PoW does not scale, prices do.
I still vote on adding more personal-relays to distribute the network load/increase capacity.
But I know that path is a magnitude more difficult.
*sigh* I have an anti-spam PoW suggestion, that I never received feedback for.

The 3/50'000 ratio indeed sounds bad.
With a known pricetag per post or byte, we accidentally create a market on words.
Creating equal incentive for spam mining-operations/farms.
Besides, we already have proof of work..
The `JSON.parse()`-bottleneck has accidentally introduced a consensus model that could be described as "The relay that parses fastest - mints the most posts"
I am honestly afraid that nip13 will just shift the mining costs from relays to users.
It benefits nobody except owners of big relays and potential mining entrepreneurs looking to make a profit from either users or spammers.
Post/Spam-ratio will be unaffected. =/
The other day I saw a post that encouraged users to run personal relays. That made me happy.

Ads are worth money, propaganda will increase.
I think nip13 will only punish regular users while making the spam content more agressive.
I feel a bit alienated in this.. Right now we all have our personal megaphones, and yes the noise levels are what they are, but surely equipping the loudspeaker with ballast weight so it costs more calories to lift and speak - is a bad idea?

No worries, it's just I spent some time reviewing the `hyper-protocol` sources, they use the same ratchet system as signal/telegram but in a p2p manner. A Sybil attack or network takeover can only prevent you from gaining connection to your known peer, whilst using a server is the very definition of having a man in the middle.

No i'm sorry, bitcoin is only somewhat uncorrupted at this point in time.
Only layer0: PoW is fully decentralized and a nauciously effective ritual of sacrifice.
Layer1: Bitcoin is kept at bay by the gray community wizards, but their tools and communication channels are owned by Microsoft.
Layer2: lightning is fully centralized. Once a lightning node has locked up enough Capitol in their channels they can detach from the Blockchain and replace it with a mysql database "for everyones best interest" and the money printing will begin a new.
But in present time, yes I agree Bitcoin is better than fiat.
An alternative to lightning popped up on my radar.
If you're interested, check out #peercoin it uses lightweight ledgers instead of LN servers.
But essentially the same layer2 thing
