I really think the main emphasis here should be that "Oh no, I'm not good at this, you should do it" should not be an excuse to let the woman do the work.
I am a woman and I wouldn't consider myself "good at cooking and cleaning". Somehow I still ended up doing it most of the time in my last relationship...

The water well project by @npub1d38…pus2 in #Uganda is going well, but the water table is lower than they expected, so they will need a bit more financial support to buy a pump and some more materials - only a small amount is missing :)

Maybe you have recently heard about #Uganda because of their general elections. After an extended internet blackout issued by the government and severe threats to the opposition leader and democratic voters, president Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986 (!), has been re-elected. There is no hope for change from the official side, so it is up to the people to at least make a change in their local communities.

I also read about snowflake in the context of internet blockades in Iran. I don't understand the technical details, but it seems to be different from VPN, and it requires someone in a non-blocked country to run something in their browser, then people can connect via them.

Normal week in the lab: Everything is almost working again (after several lasers had to be exchanged), but then this one custom-made electronics box fails that was built 10 years ago and all detail knowledge is lost or conflicting with the actual setup.
While trying to fix it, the water cooling starts leaking.
And the boss keeps telling us that we really need to catch up with our competitor's results :'D

Über 200 000 Menschen waren heute auf der Theresienwiese in #München, um für die Demokratie zu demonstrieren! Es tat so gut, da mittendrin zu stehen und den Zusammenhalt zu erleben!

Ich habe eine E-Mail mit einer Frage zur Rufnummerportierung an meinen Mobilfunkanbieter geschickt. Die E-Mail enthielt in der Erklärung zu meiner Frage das Wort "kündigen".
Weniger als 10 Minuten später hatte ich eine Antwort im Postfach - die Bestätigung meiner Kündigung zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt.
Anscheinend eine gute Möglichkeit, bei einem Anbieter zu kündigen, der seine Service-Mitarbeitenden durch KI ersetzt hat.....

2) Grete Hermann was a physicist and philosopher who made significant contributions to the interpretation of quantum mechanics. Her critique of Neumann's "proof" of the impossibility of a hidden variable QM "went unnoticed" and was "found" again 30 years later by Bell.
According to (German) Wikipedia, the reasons why it went unnoticed are a) the publication format, b) her being a philosopher, and c) Neumann's reputation. I can think of another obvious reason here... [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grete_Hermann] 4/5

My "favorite" two examples:
1) Lucy Mensing worked with Lenz, Jordan, Pauli, and Landé on the foundations of quantum mechanics. She published her last (!) journal article in 1930, at the age of 29, when she had her first son. She "helped" her husband (a physics professor) with his work. I will give a lecture about #quantum sensing / #gravimetry at an international lecture week for PhD students next week, and realized that the slides I was kindly provided with (thanks, @npub1ws0…x43d) didn't mention any women in the (short) historical sections.
A quick google search revealed some #WomenInSTEM / #WomenInQuantum that I had not heard of before.
