There are a few snow showers here & there in the forecast - maybe real snow Monday before turning to rain, but nothing, NOTHING like we've had.
It'll take a long time for all of this to melt. We still have 4'-6' piles around our house: snow John pushed off our flat, 1st floor roof.

Sitka has had 58.8" this season - the 2nd highest total on record (since 2007 at least). The highest was 77.4" in 2011-12.

5:45AM: 32F, light snow.
Looks like another 3-4" overnight - I'll know when I go out & measure the snow on my car. Could be another 1-2 today.
March came in like a lion and has roared ever since. A month of snow that will. not. stop.
Sitka just isn't prepared for this. Several pieces of snow removal equipment broken down, no sand/gravel, no nothing.
Thank goodness for ATVs with plow attachments!
I'll measure in our back yard after work today.

Under a winter weather advisory until 10AM. We got another inch or so overnight. Could be another 2-3 today...after 2-3 yesterday.
We have the annual Blessing of the Fleet today and the Mariner's Memorial. I'm President of the group that co-sponsors. Every year we have the Harbor Master's boat take a flower wreath and flowers from mourners out to sea.
No boat this year because they are too busy clearing snow from the docks.

Another big snow front coming up from the south, but I'm hoping the worst of it stays in the souther panhandle! We are expected to get just a few inches.
I hope that's true because Monday our new fridge will be delivered, and we have a long, slick, driveway.
We have an ice chest on the porch, two mini-fridges and our regular 3 freezers while we waited 40 days for a fridge to be barged.

The snow "showers" (really raging blizzards for about 15 minutes) throughout yesterday finally settled down and then it really began to snow.
We had 5" overnight measured by my quilter's ruler.
With more to come. We're under a winter weather advisory until 10AM.
One cool thing: I just saw a huge flash of lightning out over the Sound! NWS said there might be thunderstorms amid this nutso weather.

I feel like I'm in a Pinter play: "It continues to snow."
Through the shoveling, the pushing, and the brushing of snow, I don't have a good measure spot easily accessible, but I'm going out on a limb (much like pounds & pounds of snow) and say we have close to a foot.

Well, I can't do my usual snow measurement since John kept my place shoveled,. However, by eyeballing the back deck steps from the window (totally scientific) I'd say we've gotten 6-7" so far.
That's in town, next to the Russian cemetery, less than 1/2 mile from city center.

The little-bitty wind came through...a much bigger one is coming.
We're under a High Wind Watch for basically 24 hours starting late today through Thursday eve.
In other news, we've contracted to have our 2 big trees taken down. (See pic - that's the neighbor's house. Ours is behind the trees.) They might be able to do it today.
$10,000 now (OUCH!!!) compared to the possibility of catastrophic loss of life/property?

Very simple forecast: rain through Wednesday, then a chance of rain the rest of the week.
We received .65" - it's slow but steady. We were able to get out during a couple hour sucker hole yesterday - see my silent Sunday pic. 😍

Woke up to rain, but just the normal rain. The atmospheric river has yet to make an appearance.
The weather is still weathering: the map is filled with different colors. Dark purple for a gale warning on the outside today, red for wind warnings all around Baranof Island (but not us) and yellow for a flood watch for most of the panhandle.
Gonna be an interesting couple of days!

Well, this winter is certainly wintering more than some (most) winters I remember wintering.
Woke up to about 2" of snow and snow plows beeping. We could get up to 4" more before we are slammed with an atmospheric river that will bring 2-4" of rain in a day. That's coming directly from Hawaii...

No data for the amount of rain yesterday (we skipped right over snow and went directly to rain, did not pass go, and did not collect $200) but we were at .67 when I went to bed and it was raining hard. We might have hit 1" by midnight. 🤷‍♀️
There are a couple of snow"ish" (snow adjacent?) days ahead, then rain, rain, rain.

We're under a winter weather advisory from 3AM tomorrow until noon.
But our snow began at 3PM today, sooo...
It was a really interesting day. We had sun and mostly clear skies, then you could see the front move in. Fairly quickly too.

We had a "snow shower" yesterday that dumped 4ish inches in town.
What a contrast to the day before: sun and not a speck of snow or ice.
We have a reprieve this weekend, then "heavy snow" comes Monday. Just in time for me to have to go to work!

The first sunny day in weeks, the ice is gone, so EVERYONE was in Totem Park today. Lots of groups of folks visiting, everyone smiling in the sun, lots of "Happy New Years!" exchanged.

We added another inch to our total. Which probably brings us to around 6" over the past week. But at least we don't have 35" of snow like Juneau!
There's a break coming tomorrow. There will be actually be a bit of sun! Then the rain/snow comes back Saturday, into next week...as well as freezing temps. Sigh.

6:00AM: 45F, rain.
We got another 1" yesterday, which will put us close to or over 5" so far...and it's still raining. Ketchikan pulled WAY ahead, however, with 2.67".
Then there's Juneau, that has broken the record for the most snow in December. Seriously, quite a bit of the city is shut down and that takes a major weather event.
In Sitka, all the ice has been rained away! I didn't wear cleats yesterday for the first time in several weeks.

Yesterday was, perhaps, the most perfect day on record for me. Constant, hard rain, dark, and gloomy. 😍
I would say we got close to 4" in the last couple of days. Perhaps 1" or so behind Ketchikan, which is the undisputed ruler of the rain.
However, the rain acted to compact the snow that was left, which means the icy conditions on side-streets has worsened. Oh - and hydro-planing was rampant over the weekend.
We stayed in.

The storm is HERE. Over the day/night, we could get anywhere from 2-5" of snow. Then the blessed rains will come (not down in Africa) and melt the @#%$ ice!
BUT..so happy I don't live in Juneau (for many reasons - haha) because they may get close to 3 FEET of snow over the next couple of days.
We are surrounded by winter storm warnings, while Baranof, Kupreanof and Kulu Islands have mere advisories. Our special weather bubble holds.

We have some nutso weather (yes, that's a scientific term) for the next 4-5 days.
It's the first time I've seen a split in the weather graphic: snow in the northern panhandle, snow/rain in the south.
It looks like we might get several inches on Christmas Day, then the temp goes up & it turns to rain. Like the temp will be in the mid-40s!
All I care about is the ice from hell (I'm aware of the oxymoron) will melt away.

It was pretty much 17F all day & all night.
We ventured out to the Holiday Brass concert at the Sitka Performing Arts Center (the PAC.) Saw great performances and great friends.
I also clapped. A lot. Something they really don't tell you about NOT doing after a shoulder replacement.
I'm telling you now: NO repeated percussive movement 2 months after surgery. It didn't hurt at the time, but now...OUCH!

Our snow event is over, leaving a foot in some places, while in town I'd say we ended up with 4-5". Enough to really mess things up for the foreseeable future.
COLD is coming along with sun. 20's in the daytime, hitting the teens at night with a possibility of single digits Sunday night.
I'll believe it when I see it, but regardless, all the slush will be frozen by tonight and stay that way a while.
