I'm not an investor. I don't want to manage a portfolio. I certainly don't want to advise others.
I'm ok with all my eggs in one basket.

I started playing Old School Runescape this year and I kinda dig it. I only play when I'm on my treadmill (which I use a lot more in the winter).
Basically a solo player mmo that I can do at my own pace. Totally a vibe.

The "appeal to OG" argument is weak.
Time in Bitcoin doesn't necessarily make you more knowledgeable.

I suspect few people in the world have interacted with more individuals who lost bitcoin than I have.
I answered support tickets for a non-custodial web wallet that, at the time, was the most popular in the world.
I'm talking about 100,000+ tickets over five years, many from users who lost access to their funds. Not just tiny amounts, mind you.
Sometimes hundreds of bitcoin.
My inability to help them still weighs on me.
We added warnings and info about the importance of backups. It's not that I could have done more. The nature of the old Blockchain(.)info wallet made that impossible.
The bottom line is personal responsibility demands extraordinary effort, and not everyone is up for the challenge.
Lost password? Sorry, I can't help.
Lost seed phrase? Sorry, I can't help.
Funds stolen by a phishing site? *Sigh*
What troubles me most isn't the sadness I felt from doing this daily for so many years. No, eventually you grow numb to it.
That's what truly hurt.
I imagine this is a lesser version of what people in the medical field have to do to cope with their jobs - learning to stop caring so much.
It takes a toll on your humanity if you live this way for too long.
I could have stayed in that job. Stacked more sats. It made sense, financially. I'd have a lot more bitcoin today if I did.
Instead, I left, choosing to be with my family and focus on self improvement.
Anyone who has worked during the early years of a startup will understand how incredibly burnt out you are once you finally step away. It took me years to push through that.
But I still think about those users.
The ones who made all the mistakes of the past that you, the bitcoiners of today, would learn from.
Almost seven years have passed since I left, and I'm no longer numb to their pain. I feel sadness for them again.
And I'm grateful for that.

I want to elaborate on the idea that Bitcoin holders "got lucky." I hear it every bull market, and I don't think the people saying it truly understand what it means to HODL.
From the outside, it might look like we stumbled into the right thing at the right time and just coasted to where we are. But the truth is very different.
When I got into bitcoin, most people either didn’t know what it was, or thought it was a joke. I worked in the industry for 5 years, until 2018, earning and spending in btc because I believed in its potential--not because it was easy. During that time, I lived through price crashes of 50%, 70%, even 90%.
No one said I was lucky during those times. The ones who cared asked if I was going to be ok. 🧡
I’ve seen my net worth skyrocket one year & plummet the next, sometimes in weeks. I’ve endured extended bear markets where the price barely moved, and optimism was hard to come by. I’ve sat through YEARS of sideways markets, where it felt like progress was at a standstill, and doubt crept in constantly.
To stay all-in through that takes more than luck. It takes conviction, because when the price is crashing, and everyone is saying bitcoin is dead, you have to believe in what you're doing enough to keep going.
It takes resilience, because the psychological toll of watching everything you’ve built shrink overnight isn’t easy to bear. It takes patience, because nothing about bitcoin’s growth is smooth or predictable—it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Most importantly, it takes a deep understanding of why you're there in the first place. Being motivated by personal freedom, not fiat gains.
Luck might help someone make a quick buck, but it doesn’t keep you invested during the dark days when it feels like the world is against you. Those years of volatility weren’t easy, but they’re also what gave me the perspective, discipline, and belief to stay the course. So, no—it wasn’t just luck.
It was a choice, made again and again, through the highs and the lows. It's a choice bitcoiners continue to make each day.
And when you look at the other options, you realize there is no better choice. Bitcoin is the best hope for our future.
But sure, we got lucky. 🙄

I'm never ready for the bull mania phase of Bitcoin. I have so much fun with the bear & crab markets. It's a comfy place.
Mania bull markets cause the most anxiety. Calls from people you haven't talked to on a while, concerns about your cold storage setup even when you know it's secure, and an overall feeling of great responsibility.
Bitcoin is a burden I carry for future generations. I know this is all inevitable, but seeing the world wake up to this inevitably can feel daunting.

For years I avoided reading Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. I wanted to wait for the series to finish before diving in. With book 5 coming this December, I picked up book 1 a few months ago.
As of today I'm caught up. I simply couldn't stop reading once I started.
YEARS of hype did nothing to prepare me for how good it is. Hands down the best fantasy series I've ever read, but even saying that doesn't do it justice. It's so much more than just another fantasy series.
Can't wait for the conclusion to this story. In fact, I'm going to reread all the books closer to December. 😂

Very nice setup! I'm running a Schiit Bifrost with a Lyr 3 on my PC.
Recently picked up a FiiO BTR7, and it's a fantastic way to use my wired headphones on the go. I've been using a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pros for many years. Love them. Also works great with my Focal Bathys in wired mode.
I have my first order from Hifiman arriving today, but I'm way too embarrassed to go into details about that purchase. 😂

What an incredible week!
I feel so loved & appreciated amongst bitcoiners. I have immense respect for so many of you. To get a little of that back means a lot. I walk away from these events feeling blessed. 🧡
I lived a vastly different life before all this. I always felt trapped, whether it was public school, or the soul crushing 9-5 grind that I did all through my 20s.
Bitcoin changed everything.
My family is Greek. We show love through proof of work in the kitchen. To share tiny pieces of that with so many is my way of saying thank you for being you. Thank you for your positivity in this world. For standing up for what you believe in. For not only caring about future generations, but for actually doing something about it!
My wife has been around Bitcoin as long as I have, but this was the first conference for my mom & daughters. It's one thing to hear me talk about this part of my life, but it's a different thing entirely for them to experience it. They know me better after this past week. I highly recommend bringing your family if you have the opportunity!
You all encourage me to be a better human today than I was yesterday. Thank you for that. 🙏

Ever wonder what it was like working for a Bitcoin company in the early days? Did you know users back then were part crazy, part generous?
I started working at BitInstant late 2012, which allowed people to buy Bitcoin with cash. In the fall of 2013, I joined Blockchain(dot)info (BCI). The early days at BCI is what I want to focus on here.
BCI was the biggest non-custodial web wallet & the most used block explorer. I wore many hats as the first employee, but my main job was handling the support tickets.
My first day at BCI was chaos. I logged into Zendesk and saw THOUSANDS of tickets as old as January 2013. There was one guy, Ben Reeves, doing everything since inception. Support wasn't the highest priority.
After initially feeling overwhelmed, I decided to clean things up. I closed all tickets older than a few weeks, and included a message apologizing for the lack of response. I assured people this would no longer be the norm, and to open a new ticket if their issue was ongoing.
I had free reign over my job, and became obsessed with making sure users received help in a reasonable amount of time. It started as a goal to respond within 24 hours of a new ticket, which turned into 12 hours. Within a few months, the average response time was down to 2-4 hours, only because I had to sleep at some point! 😂
I didn't realize how little I knew about Bitcoin until I had to answer tickets about the Bitcoin network itself. After all, we weren't just a web wallet, but a block explorer! I spent many late nights digging around on BitcoinTalk, trying to learn more, so I could help users with their questions. Learning about Bitcoin back then wasn't impossible, but it wasn't easy.
Many early users were shocked to receive a response to their questions. To hear back so quickly was unheard of. There were many Bitcoin projects back then, but most didn't have dedicated support staff. If you received a response, it would be from the founder or some other developer. These guys didn't have the resources to tackle support, especially in a timely manner.
I quickly learned about the generosity of bitcoiners. Many users requested a btc address from me so they could send a tip for the help provided. Even when I told them it was unnecessary, as I was a paid employee, they insisted on tipping.
Many of these users were nuts. 😂 Here's an example that didn't happen frequently, but it happened:
A user opens a ticket during the time I'm actively watching the queue. I see it come in, respond within minutes with a solution, and he insists on tipping. I'm like, "Bro it's cool, don't sweat it," but this madlad won't leave me alone until he tips me.
I look at my tip jar - 0.5 BTC, which is worth a few hundred USD at the time. WTF, ARE YOU INSANE?! 🤯
Part of this generous attitude was about saying thank you, but I believe a bigger part was about the early proliferation of Bitcoin.
We preach the HODL mentality today, but Bitcoin wouldn't be what it is without the generosity of early adopters. So many bitcoins were given out freely so people could learn about it firsthand.
I believe many of the tips I received were from people who, at one point, also received free btc. It felt wrong to HODL these tips, so I paid it forward. I purchased work related items so I could do my job better. I tipped people on Reddit. I donated towards bitcoin-backed fundraisers, including when Andreas fundraised for Dorian Nakamoto. I did everything I could to keep that spirit of giving alive.
The landscape today has changed, but that spirit of generosity lives on. The best example is zapping on Nostr, where people are tipping each other via LN for posts and comments. It's beautiful to see!
Thank you, early adopters, for your generosity. You're a big part of why Bitcoin is what it is today. 🧡

It's "American Easter" as the Greeks tend to call it (Orthodox Easter is May 5 this year), so it has me thinking about religion.
I grew up Greek Orthodox, and church was an integral part of my upbringing. Sunday school, Greek school after normal school, altar boy, etc. In my early 20s I wanted to be more religious, so I put a lot of effort into that. By my 30s, I came to the conclusion that I was ultimately just pretending. I really wasn't a believer and nothing would change that.
I don't make any decisions without a lot of deep thought and introspection. I spoke to many different people about my decision as well. Deciding to leave the church is almost like leaving your family-not an easy decision to make! Ultimately, I can't be that person who shows up every Sunday, and thoughtlessly goes through the motions just to be a part of a social club.
I've questioned this decision many times since, which is a normal process for me. I think it's healthy to constantly question who you are and what you are doing with your life.
Religious or not, the world would be a better place if folks followed the basic teachings of Jesus. Be a loving, caring, and honest person to yourself, your friends & family, and most importantly, to strangers you meet. I think that's worth believing in.

The true reason I left corporate America to bake baklava & clean toilets for Bitcoin was taxes. I don't talk about this often, but maybe I should.
I felt sick looking at my paycheck and seeing taxes deducted. I was angry about all the endless wars waged by the US gov via fiat currency.
I found happiness in a life earning much less, paying basically no taxes. I could be *much* wealthier today, but it would come at too great an expense.

2023 is a strange Christmas
My parents retired to Florida in January. I'm happy they are where they always wanted to live!
My twin daughters moved into their first apartment earlier this year. They work so hard to make it work, and I'm really proud of them for it. They're so happy with their own space. 😄

Call it SAD or whatever - winters take a toll on my psyche. I feel an urge to hibernate 3-4 months out of the year.
Sun is a the greatest drug. I just go back from Florida and the trip snapped me out of this funk. I feel focused and energized.
Need to make a permanent move soon™️.

Best tip I can offer is to not cave to cravings. Don't do cheat days. Ever. If you think you have a sugar addiction then understand that you're not a normal person who can have a bite or two and be fine. You need to abstain completely.
I treat sugar like an alcoholic treats booze. It's not something I'm capable of moderating and I constantly remind myself of that.
