Odd. I posted a recent story about how street homelessness in Aurora was down two years in a row. Can't they get the numbers right?

In part due to more shelter space - so there are more there.

Well - even young boomers like me will have to downsize and will have a LOT of books, albums, CDs, and other items to get rid of.
I helped clean out the 1BR home for my mom - took two trailers full of trash to the dump, the family got all the nice things, and other stuff went to the nearby resale store or to Goodwill. I could have had a nice Queen sized wrought iron bed frame but not sure how I could have gotten it home.

Be glad you don't live near the mountains where the distance to empty & shown MPG goes up and down based on the direction you drive the vehicle.
I can drive 200 miles round trip from Denver to Vail CO and see the distance to empty change up and down over 100 miles - with the maximum when I get home (after 50 miles of driving mostly downhill).

Covered by a tarp - whatever that means to prevent evaporation. Obviously not very effective if the neighbor knew to complain.
I would have been worried that water (rainfall) would have mixed in to ruin the gas as well. It would have required the tarp to be raised above the fuel level to allow it to drain around the pool. That would have allowed fumes to form - dangerous.

Sort of like ISDN.
https://ethw.org/Picturephone
This page says it took three normal phone lines to make the connection. A standard one for the audio and two additional lines for the video. It doesn't describe the technology (analog or digital) for the video signal but it had the two lines channel bonded like you could do later with ISDN. Expensive!

I'm old enough - there were multiple handles for the different grades back then. Just don't remember the colors for sure. I did an image search to find this though
https://www.k-bid.com/auction/54955/item/4?offset=4
which has a black handle for regular and a red handle for premium on different sides of the pump.
Some other old pictures show different colored pumps for the different grades.
It really varied back then.

2026-03-27 19:31:23 UTC

Plus they picked the image with the green handled gas pump for the show. Most (not all) gas stations in the US use a green handle for diesel fuel. The premium comes out of a (usually) black handled pump.
Altitude also affects the octane needed - a couple less at gas stations in Denver and other high locations.

When I left Texas they were still selling (not building) new homes for under $100 a square foot (like $300K for a 3000 sqft home south of Dallas TX).
I'm reading a book about how zoning and environmental regulations have made home building unaffordable. Like 10-20 years just to get approval for a new housing development. Or putting a guy in jail for leveling his lot because he didn't have proper wetlands permits.

A tech story
https://supercarblondie.com/boeing-747-fifth-engine-vitally-important/
This is a bit interesting - Pratt & Whitney had a couple Boeing 747 aircraft built with a mount for a fifth engine for flight testing.
It reminds me of a WWII B-17 bomber that had a motor mounted in the nose for flight tests. Powerful enough to turn off the other four engines in flight. I was told it was also powerful enough that it almost tore the nose off by the end of testing.

Yeah - that reminds me of an audio tape I checked out of the library about sales. I forget the author but the gist of his message was to do something like this
- put everyone on commission
- give the top 20% (or so) the best of everything
- give the middle 50% (or so) reasonable resources
- the bottom 30% will leave when they don't make enough to live on.
repeat.
That works for technical jobs as well - okay maybe not the commission part but the idea is the same.

A former cop analyzes some of the videos of ICE agents engaging with observers and protesters. Basically saying that they started without a legal basis and escalated to use force not appropriate to the situation.
Expects trust in law enforcement in general to go down if not checked.

Eh? $250K total or per winner?
I am not even sure $250K would cover a full four year tuition at a high end university any more.
Plus if say 10K students pass the test - does that mean they get $25 each?
Inquiring minds want to know.
