"Getting kids involved early is a great way to help them become well rounded and self sufficient adults... it is a short book, all children’s books are, it does a good job of covering all the basics, not so much exactly what to do but how to think about it. Sometimes it is easy for us as adults to do things ourselves -- we know how to do them, we know if we do them they will get done, and we know when shortcuts may be appropriate -- instead of letting our children have responsibilities and the room to make mistakes. This, however, robs our children of experience that leads to competence and confidence. It allows them to grow up timid and fearful of failure, instead of being willing to try new things and fail forward into success.
Next time you are tempted to "do it yourself," give your child the opportunity to help, they may just surprise you.

Thanksgiving is a day where we gather with family and friends to celebrate what we've been given. We gather around a bountiful table, often with multiple generations, and share what we are thankful for. It is good that the bustling holiday season is kicked off with a day to pause and be grateful for the people and things we have been blessed with.
Take some extra time today to pass on some skills and memories to the younger generations, don't let grandma's best recipes and grandpa's hunting and gardening wisdom be forgotten.

How much can a child learn in a kitchen? Aside from practical cooking experience enabling them to feed themselves for their whole life, a child can learn math, history, problem solving, social skills, cleanliness and more. As Thanksgiving approaches, take some time to invest into the children in your life. Teach them to make an old family recipe. Let them help measure the flour for the pie crust. Share memories from your childhood Thanksgivings. Make the most of the opportunity to spark an interest into practical skills.
