Oh, and the signer logs do seem to have data now. Has this thing auto-updated itself? I think maybe it went from 0.12 to 0.13 without me doing anything? 🤔

So. What do I think of remote signers, assuming this one is typical...
Its surprising that they work through relays instead of having to punch a port-forwarding hole in my router. Dunno if this is better. Makes everything feel quite slow and I would think the constantly-open websocket to multiple devices would be quite draining on a relay. Don't currently run a relay myself though so I suppose that's someone else's problem.
Does seem to be leading to lots of timeouts. This particular chip seems to reboot itself a lot. Doesn't help that all Nostr clients are shit so it's hard to tell which thing is actually broken.
Using a relay to authenticate a post which then ends up on some other different relay is mind-bending. There's so many keys involved here. We have a key for the signer communications and then other keys for the things the signer actually signs and these aren't the same keys. This one even has some kind of key-for-deriving-keys, though I couldn't get that working coz I couldn't find a way to select which identity was in control of the app-link.
I think I understand better why it's more secure than pasting nsec into web-apps. Posting nsec isn't less secure than typing passwords into web-apps, and a well designed web-app which you trust shouldn't be doing anything bad with it that wouldn't also be just as bad from a native app or client which people put passwords into all the time. But with a bunker-connection between the app and the signer, you do retain the ability to revoke at any time. Don't have to build a whole new identity if the app misbehaves, can just revoke it's access and carry on.
Not sure if it's best to have this signer on a separate hardware like this or if just running one on the phone or desktop computer might be more efficient. Certainly it's taking up a USB power socket now.
Anyway, been interesting exploring what it all actually is. Lets see if I can avoid posting nsec anywhere else from now on.

Part of the issue is of course that every single Nostr client still sucks. Every one of them.
Some are app-store bollocks that you'd have to install google play services for, or use an iPhone.
Most of the web-clients either don't work at all with Firefox/ublock or work so poorly they're almost unuseable. Many issues with z-ordering of divs, blocking out things by putting the wrong things on top. Or sizing.
Or like snort, they work okay in desktop mode maybe but everything is out of shape on mobile. If you write a post longer than a few lines, the buttons to post it scroll off the screen and can't be retrieved.
And every app is like this. So far as I can see there ain't a single good one among all of the long list of them. All vibe-coded slop not tested adequately on anything other than the dev's own Google Chrome browser, completely unsuitable for anyone using a privacy phone and refusing to install Google services.
Here on nostr.com for instance, I'm having to reload the page every time I wanna post because otherwise it just locks up, presumably failing to find the signer? Works okay after a reload. Just one post per page-load. And of course not at all on ironfox/graphene.

Kinda expected to have to open up some port on my router to forward network requests to this signer, but apparently it doesn't work like that.
NIP-46 apparently uses a rely even to forward and sign signing-requests. Seems to have four or so relays in the connection string here. Sounds like there'll be an open connection from the signer to all of them at once too rather than just using one with a list of fallbacks.
The signer is no longer connected directly to my computer, just to a USB power in the wall now. Will it continue to work? 🤞

Only way I managed to get it to post from this nsec was to wipe out the default tree it created by reflashing the device then make this nsec be the only one on the device.
Would have expected 'create app' to let you pick which identity was doing the signing but I guess it's always picking ID 0? 🤔 Can't see any other way to pick which identity is being used in an app connection.
Maybe it just isn't finished yet.

Apparently so? Which is strange since I don't think I did anything different to all the times when it just caused the signer to crash and reboot instead.
Still nothing showing up in the signing logs on the device though. So I wonder if maybe that message is just in some sort of cache awaiting signing and so not really published yet? Hard to be sure.

It can't do text to voice at all. Presumably that's a google play service and I ain't got them. Silent navigation! Maybe there's some other voice service I can install? 🤷
It'll visually show the speed limit and current speed and has something about warning around cameras.

Yes. Played with it a bit. It does indeed have the busses but if I ask it to plan a journey that'd be bus-train-bus to cross London it just tries to make me walk to the train station instead. So I guess the planner ain't as great as Google Maps is. Seems like it might work okay at navigation too, though couldn't find an option to go beep if I accidentally break the speed limit.
Definitely better than organic-maps here though.

My hobby this week is deleting Google Off My Phone.
So I installed GrapheneOS on my Pixel Six phone. No blog posts for years then two in one week!

It seems to do most of the things I need from a phone these days, if only because of how I'm already deliberately not using Google for address/calendar/email and instead try and do most stuff with self-hosted web-services.
Means if I have a browser I have most of what I want already.
Graphene here is going to work for me except for:
* Organic Maps isn't good enough for driving or for busses.
* Banking apps
Luckily, with Graphene, the Google Play services can be installed and they install in user-space, so you can set your phone to have a Google partition and a Free partition and install Maps and Waze and Bank-apps in the Google unfree part.
Using a few new open-source things I wasn't using before on Android. Molly is nice for Signal and solves that tablet-app problem I think.
But seems like this can work. Away from Google but still only supporting a google phone 🤔 for now. More models coming I believe.
Perhaps I'll buy one soon coz both Google and Graphene stop supporting this Pixel Six this year.

There are two main ways that thing lose heat. They emit black body radiation, losing mostly infra-red photons that carry energy away with them, and by conduction when some other atom touches the thing and takes some energy away as it bounces off.
In the vacuum you only get one of those things, the radiation still works by the conduction is not present, there are no air molecules taking energy away. So you have to use expensive active cooling and arrange for your cooling fluid to pass through shapes designed to maximize radiation loss.
In general on earth for things hotter than room temperature most of the cooling is conductive cooling through the atmosphere.
This is why cooling is much more difficult and expensive in space. Fans don't work. Convection doesn't carry anything away. Conduction cooling is almost entirely absent.

Oh my god. If your hot thing is hotter than the atmosphere than the atmosphere takes heat away from your thing. This conduction heating is the majority of how things in atmosphere lose heat. They heat up the atmosphere nearby which then drifts (or can be fanned) away.
Your understanding of physics is at about the level of a fucking LLM.

Space is really big, but it is also an almost perfect insulator. Which makes cooling absolutely ridiculous. No conduction at all. Best you can do is some sort of liquid cooling and then pipe the liquid into a big flat panel to lose heat by radiation alone. Its like putting your CPU into a thermos flask, only more so. It can be done, but it is insanely expensive compared to just opening the window on earth.
Space is big, and it is also full of radiation. All the processors and memory and GPU chips that you put up there are bombarded with radiation and cosmic rays at a level earth dwellers would find insane and deadly. You can radiation-harden hardware, but it is insanely expensive compared to just living under a mile of atmosphere.
Space is big, and it is also far away. When things break and need repair you need a tower-block full of fuel and a space-rocket to burn it in order to send an engineer to replace the hard-drive. It can be done, but it is insanely expensive compared to just putting your chips near where an engineer lives.
Space is big, and hasn't got good fiber. You can send signals down to earth with microwaves but only for the 30 minutes when the satellite is overhead . Otherwise there's an entire earth in the way. You can get around this with receivers and relays and whatnot but it is insane expensive compared to just laying some fiber to your data center.

SPOILERS: Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy immersive theater show
Went out and saw the Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy immersive theater show at the Riverside in Hammersmith.
It was good fun. Our pub visit and Arthur Dent's surprise leaving party that Ford threw was interrupted by the Vogons coming to destroy the planet.
Luckily, Ford got the entire pub into the Heart Of Gold and hence to the cargo hold of the Vogon ship.
Songs and dance, audience participation, beautiful costumes and familiar characters. All good fun.
Trouble with a comedy based on a forty year old show though is that the jokes are all entirely predictable and obvious. Which makes it a comedy show without much actual laughs.
And while the Fenchurch in the show was an entirely lovely actress, I always found the character in the books/radio-shows quite annoying and she was too prominent in a 90 minute show.
Good fun, but don't expect to be rolling in the aisles.

Read "How To Survive In A Science Fiction Universe" by Charles Yu, a novel about a time-machine repair-man getting stuck in a loop during his search for his father.
First person narrated, in a fictional universe in which you can travel in time but you can't change anything about the past.
It was fun and an easy read, lots of interludes about the physics of fictional universes and explanations of acausal items causing their own existence, including the book itself that you read in your hands.
Its nice if you'd like something with experimental narrative form twisting the usual story format.

So Musk bought Twitter for 40 billion and then merged it with his experimental AI company that has never made any money and then sold it to the other company he mostly owns (which exists only due to massive government subsidy) for 250 billion dollars.
This sale based on the ludicrous lie that data-centers might be built in orbit.
It's a living I guess.
Now that Musk has offloaded Twitter and his AI experiments to SpaceX, he can be sure the government will bail it out when the AI bubble pops. The government's defense industry depends upon SpaceX for access to space.
This is probably the main reason for the "sale" transferring money from one of Musk's bank accounts to another of Musk's bank accounts.
The AI price bubble popping could have wiped out xAI and thus Twitter with it, but now it's cushioned against that by contracts with a government who can't afford to allow their only real space access to go bust.
So he can subsidize his failing AI business and his unprofitable media-manipulation efforts at Twitter with his government-protected failing exploding space-rocket project.
All protected by the lie which the media keep repeating uncritically that it makes any sense at all to have data centers in space.
What a great businessman.

Asimov wrote his laws of robotics as a dramic device to show how difficult it is to write laws of robotics. How they always will contradict each other.
His laws are there to illustrate a problem, not as a genuine attempt at the solution. His laws are deliberately wrong.
[Anthropic's constitution](https://www.anthropic.com/constitution) is a proper attempt to solve the problem instead.
Surprising that it ends up written in English rather than maths.
Perhaps the robot will translate it into maths later.
There's a lot of thorny philosophy in it if you assume the premise that a super-intelligent machine can be built, even if known methods can't build it.
We should do that philosophy whether the premise turns out to be true or false.
Anthropic are doing much better on the AI ethics than openAI. And the business side, and the building actually useful models side.

I see Facebook are going to be advertising their "AI glasses" at the superbowl. Trying to sell their glasses to athletes.
I gotta tell ya, people wearing Meta's glasses should be shunned like those google glassholes were.
They should be banned from any public place with their creepy surveillance headsets on. If you see someone wearing them you should harass that person and drive them out of whatever space you are in.

Glad to see lots of people liking and sharing the Green Party England&Wales broadcast this week. It's striking.
Hope it's happening in the corporate spaces too, though presumably the capitalist leaders there suppress it with their algorithms.
Zack is in general doing such a great job of speaking my mind really it's unreal.
All the other leaders just seem dazed and confused, trying hard to maintain the status quo, ensure that capital power persists and they don't offend their corporate donors.

Watched War Between The Land And The Sea with the family over Xmas so I can catch up on the Who Culture episodes about it without spoilers.
Plus the mattress on the new Tardis bedroom should have expanded over xmas to be useable without voiding guarantee.
So when I got back after Xmas I used the bed for lounging about drinking a glass of wine, watching Who Culture podcast, and mucking about on the tablet screen.

Added a category manager and category state section to the Exocortex Log app.
Have now organized and cleaned up the categories in my ten year database and so we can get some views of the time spent in each category.
We see that through September and October I was in a routine of work and slack with a bit of social a couple of times a week, until the end of November when I went away for social at a conference all weekend. I saw a demo there of a person using Shakespeare, and then when I got back started doing some vibe-coding, shown in in Red.
A break from that to go away at the weekend to a long social party then finish it off and publish a few days ago, since when Vibe Coding has dropped off a little.

I am quite keen to watch The War Between The Land And The Sea on iplayer.
But we need to consider tactics. Will the folks sit and watch it with me at Xmas? If they would that'd perhaps be better than whatever drivel quiz shows and police car chase stuff they normally make me watch.

Read "Revelation Space" by Alastair Reynolds, a story about some future space people investigating the demise of an extinct civilization.
Some of the people are software uploads or implants in other people's brains, or infectious biological agents and things.
The story is galactic in scale across time and space with good world building, a good tale weaving of elements together.
I liked the scene where the woman falling to her death in a lift-shaft remembered she was on a space-ship which only had gravity coz of engine thrust, so saved herself turning the engines off with a wrist controller.
Trouble is I came to it infrequently with long gaps and so struggled to keep track of what's going on quite a bit. Lots of different elements to keep track of.
My fault, should try and concentrate harder and remember things.

Future Plans:
I have like ten years of data in my log, converted from those prior prototypes. I will be adding ways to more usefully compare and analyse data going this far back.
It could maybe use a milestone function, to track singular events which don't take actual time so don't spread on the grid. Snack tracking and the like.
It could likely use a flashcard system, with spaced repetition to review the flashcards, for better memory and recall.
Synching between devices might be nice, and lots will suggest doing that through Nostr, but Nostr is a bit public. Would need an encryption layer. Do nostr relays want to relay encrypted data from one user to themselves I suspect Veilid ( https://veilid.com/ ) would
be a better option. The "no servers" ethos probably includes nostr relays.
Mostly I plan just more and better ways to view the ten years and growing of data I already have. And to do some other things for a bit so my log isn't just full of "Vibecoding Exocortex" 😄

Mostly better management of the chat context. Able to pull back old ones, and delete chunks from them where the robot goes astray or is too verbose and fill up the context window.

Paid in sats for your basic model for most of it. Realized I was spending too many sats and switched to the OpenAI account. GPT 4.1 really made a mess of things but 5.1 was certainly much better. 4.1 would just delete entire chunks of functions and replace them with comments saying not to change this part 😄
Ought to be possible to improve the models you'd think, but not without limit. Wonder what those limits will turn out to be.

Yeah. A lot of the investment and excitement for the AI coding is based on the faith that it'll get better. Some people expect exponentially so even! Though it looks to me more like diminishing returns on exponentially growing investment really. And to assume it can improve without limits is quite a leap of faith.
Nice too though. So long as you're managing the code itself and not just the UI seems useful.

Why is it finally ready now after ten years of being a barely functional input-only android app?
A few weeks ago I saw @nprofile…9kky giving a talk and demo of [Shakespear](https://shakespeare.diy/), a Chrome app for vibe-coding.
Explain the app you want, and the model you select will build it. Don't even need to be a dev they reckon.
So I figured I'd give it a try.
Start again from scratch, import the old data.
In about a week of work this app has progressed far beyond the prototypes that spent more then
ten years as half-running shoddy input-only systems that I couldn't be arsed to expand further.
It went [pretty well](https://exocortexlog.com/news/articles/2025-11-25-vibecoding/) to start with,
something even a non-dev could do, then [ceased up](https://exocortexlog.com/news/articles/2025-12-01-fixingvibes/), unable to really understand the codebase it'd written until I spend a fairly long day manually cleaning up it's mess.
So Shakespeare (and presumably all the other tools I haven't tried) seems okay for a non-dev to prototype a small app but currently the models are writing code so sloppy that they can't then later understand it themselves. Still needing a dev's guiding hand to keep it from
repeating itself or creating complex unorganized unmanageable code.

A couple of years ago I made a version to run on my smart watch.But again kinda stalled when it came to doing much more than input data. And watch isn't really suitable without a way for text import anyway. Plus turns out I don't like wearing a watch.

Its spent ten years as a barely started android app which I could only input data into and that's it. Once I started collecting data it kinda lost urgency and stalled. Writing a stats page too much effort, especially when there wasn't much data left.
The new version is completely re-written from scratch in the last couple of weeks. For a while there it had a "legacy data import" button, but since I'm the only one with legacy data and I've imported it now that got removed.

The thing about a life-logger, is you input sensitive data about your life, lifestyle and activities, so privacy and data-integrity are some of the most important issues.
There can be no server, the data has to be yours and yours alone. Because you can’t tell what is happening to the data in a closed-source app, it must be completely free and open source.
You can’t trust a corporate diary, they must sell to anyone offering enough money.
So it is with my life log app, all data completely in your own device. No home server ever sees anything.
There is no home server. Just the code.
To achieve this Exocortex Log is a Progressive Web App. It downloads when you are online at the website and can be installed onto the homepage of your phone.
It keeps all data on the local device using indexdb.
This means you must be responsible for your own backups. Be sure to export and back up your data regularly. I have gaps in my ten year record where my phone was stolen and most recent backup was months prior.
Once installed it will work offline, airplane mode, no internet, down in the tube station at midnight, anywhere.

You see a detective on the TV and he’s interviewing all the suspects asking them what they were doing on the night of the murder a month ago last Tuesday night.
And on the TV, the suspects all know. Right away.
If you asked me ten years ago though, I’d have had barely any clue. If you’re lucky it’d have been something planned in my calendar but mostly, dunno. Watching TV maybe? No idea what show. Was that a night I was in the pub?
As we all get older this problem increases I’m told. Eventually full on senility sets in.
But what if you have already built the habit to record what you’re doing? To be able to look back and revise and review how you spent your days? An external aid as a crutch to your own forgetful brain’s cortex?
So I started this Exocortex Log over a decade ago and now I can answer: Ten years ago on Tuesday I was having dinner with the guitarist from my band and his girlfriend and they burned the pudding.
The app has been half finished and barely able to even record let alone review for most of that time, but now it’s ready enough that someone else might use it too if they want.

So the temporary placeholder name "Your Party" is made permanent.
None of the options on the shortlist were good. Most of them just as grammatically inconvenient as the dumb placeholder name.
The people who decide on the short-list, who can be a member, whose votes counts and what the options are, have quite a lot of power.
Zara Sultana boycotted day one over who sets the rules and who can be involved. If Your Party have a governing body with power to override conference they end up like the Labour party and just are easily taken over and usurped by a cabal of thatcherite neoliberal capitalists.
They did allow the dual membership system and a wider governance, so Zara won on who gets to be a member and who gets to be in charge. Which is probably good.
Coz as the terrible name shows, if you put the idiots in charge you'll get idiocy not good collective decision making.
For now the membership appear to have won, and I hear are they are all very excited and fierce and canny and not likely to let the old guard just set up another dictatorship from the top.
They currently have half the membership count of the greens, less than a quarter that claimed by Reform. Lets hope they can get some attention towards something other than how billionaires think the country should be run and focus on the people.
Here's hoping they can inflate that number by draining the Labour party and Reform members who just want change really rather than actually liking anything said by Farage.

Huh, I see that Zip Car UK is closing down, which would be a right pain if I hadn't bought a car last year.
That's a lot of parking spaces about to be freed up I suppose. And a lot of easy-rental cars lying around the city disappearing.

Yeah, my node is down. Hard drive failed and it's taking months to revalidate the chain for some reason. Maybe coz limited bandwidth on Tor. Maybe coz limited CPU is burning hot. Dunno. It's doing like one block a minute. Luckily, it's a problem which will fix itself if I just wait and do nothing for several more months so I'll probably do that.😆

conference is over now. I likely wouldn't have come for just a bitcoin thing, but I am very interested in redecentralizing the web, so it's attachment to the nostr day pulled me in.
Everyone I met was friendly and interesting and seems much more interested in making a better money system than in making money for themselves.
Our government and bank money systems are dysfunctional in all kinds of ways which are often less visible than they should be too people using them, especially to those in Europe and America who benefit from the way those systems exploit the global south.
I'm not convinced that fixing that would end wars and fix broken government as some seem to think, but I am sure our money is the source of many problems.
There are many bright, well meaning, and intelligent people building to improve bitcoin in fascinating ways with the hope of having a parallel system to transition to. With lots of work still to be done.
Can it work?
I'm sure I don't know, and I'm sure even if it's a better system it'll come with it's own unfairness and cruelty. Money will continue to be a source of suck and worry.
I'm told that the bigger conferences are often full of shitcoin scammers and suit wearing banksters who are in fact all in it too get rich and rip people off, but I found none of that here.
Here there is a real community of people trying to make the world a better place and improve the lives of their neighbours and governance of their countries.
And in the end building community is the most radical and effective way to change the world regardless of the problems of it's money system.
I had a great time. Thanks to those organising it and welcome new followers. I mostly don't talk about bitcoin very much because money isn't really very interesting and I'm fast from expert on it.

Thomas voegtlin talks about nostr spam. It's very censorship resistance means spam can't be stopped by moderators.
One way to stop spam is require proof of work before your client accepts a message. A large difficult hash.
But big hashing machines are more available to spammers than people.
Can't use likes or zaps cuz they can be faked with sybil attacks.
Instead: notaries and proveably burned satoshis.
Your public messages are classified as ham rather than spam if you burn enough money.
Nostr event types to prove it are suggested. Including burning to upvote others messages
Don't think I like deliberately burning the money, and seems to me a web of trust might work without doing that? Pay to post also peanizes there poor.
But it isn't really burned here, it's shaed out to miners to continue a subsidy when the block rewards run out. So paying miners and these notaries rather than really burning. Okay. Maybe better, but still makes messages mostly for the rich?

A panel on bitcoin treasury companies.
Because investment law makes it hard for institutions to buy bitcoin in their funds. You can't own BTC in you tax free ISA. So some companies that do hold bitcoin, notably microstrategy, became proxy investments. If you can't hold BTC you could maybe own a company that owns BTC instead.
Microstrategy started because it's ceo realized it's dollar treasury was being debased by dollar printing. So tried buying BTC instead, with fantastic success.
Copycat companies proliferated. They boomed and then busted. One panelist calls that a grift. A way to memeticly pump share price.
A line can be drawn between profitable companies just storing their profit in bitcoin Vs those raising debt to buy without having a profitable business.
Imagine a world transiting from using seashells for money to using gold coins. A company gathers seashells from investors to buy gold coins, which will do better than sea shells. Trouble is the next step where the company pays back it's investors with... More seashells.
If you own shares in the company, you do not own bitcoin. You'll just get more old fashioned bank money.
Still. It's worked as marketing, more people being convinced BTC has value.
If you do buy a treasury company, check it's bitcoin not "digital assets" including shitcoins.

Gaskell of Sundial is presenting on a layer two protocol designed to enable bitcoin to generate yield.
Most bitcoin is still, in long term hodl. Not helping anyone.
Sure, you could lend your bitcoin for interest but that would count as a tax event and also involve losing custody.
What if a programmable sidechain to help with scaling, allow borrowing and lending and products retail and institutions like?
His solution is called Sundial and doesn't need new protocol changes or forks.
Hard to say what it actually does though? Presumably something like liquidity in sidechains? Didn't really seem to get what he actually is building. 🤷

The conference also has a cinema room, showing bitcoin based films. Not mine, but I'm here for "finding home" by avi burra. Who did q&a after.
A short Travelog about a visit a cypherpunk in Prague for BTC Prague. Which was a much bigger bitcoin conference.
Lots of shots of a beautiful European city, and brief interviews with the people there. Many at restaurants where meals are paid for with bitcoin.
I guess they have a circular economy there of some sort.
Conclusion seems to be that fixing the money is important but building community is even more importanter.

Not sure what the difference between a panel and a"fireside chat" is. There is no fire.
But here's a fireside chat on what nostr is.
Nostr is freedom for Identity. Accounts without hosts. Publishing without publidhers. Censorship resistance without platforms deciding who gets to say what.
It's not a silo in which you can be tapped as the service enshitifies, since it's a protocol with accounts you control, you can't switch clients or relays without loosing social graph or contacts.
Nostr is notes and Other Stuff, what other stuff? the panel is working on an audiobook publishing system with perhaps a required payment and affiliate revenue share. E-commerce, video publishing, zap stream for live video with zap payments.
Onboarding can be tricky with private key management needing to be understood and such a range of options of clients and what relays are. Can we make it easier?
Perhaps by abstracting away the fact it's nostr at all. Devine users don't even know they are using nostr. But this robs users of the understanding they may need to move clients or use the same account for video and notes, say.
Perhaps by making a private messagnger, the panel thinks people are used to using multiple messenger apps. Though I find they hate that, and that's why they refuse to install signal. They feel they don't need it since they already have WhatsApp with a bigger network.
In the end it's education. We have to teach literacy so people can read and write, we have to teach public keys encryption so people can do so securely.

Geyser is a crowdfunding system.
Lots of history of patrons raising funds from the public for art works or public infrastructure.
Kickstarter and the like on the internet made this much easier. But it's all bank money which is conservative and restrictive. Not global. High fees and middle men.
So doing it freely with bitcoin makes some sense. Censorship resistance and global scope.
Geyser has been running and funding projects for a while. Non custodial and money goes to creators only if target reached in time, otherwise returned.
All open source in smart contracts on chain.

Usury is lending money, charging interest.
Aristotle thought money was for use not for interest. He thought usury unnatural.
Many religious quotes saying not to extract interest.
"Money is power" but this is not gold or paper money. It's credit. Infinite money with interest. Which breaks everything.
Imagine a mortgage. Prices of homes inflated by available interest. You have to give a deposit but the bank creates ten times that in new money! Who gets rich here? Banks are printing money. That inflates prices and dilutes money purchase power.
Not just mortgages. Business loans, repair loans, global scale of all of this.
Not only did they create that money, the charge interest on the money they created! And if you don't pay, they take the house.
One judge found this all illegal, but was soon overruled and found mysteriously dead.
What can you do eh? Only opt out. Don't take loans. Use a money that stores value instead of losing it.

Art traditionally goes up in value but none of it seems to outpace bitcoin itself.

It's all running locally, with only the ai requests going to the llm APIs. With a powerful enough GPU you could run open models locally instead.
It's handling source control management, committing to a guy repo, and deploying to the web.
It's certainly made a website faster than I would do as a dev, at least if I did do from scratch rather than a template. Would have to examine the code to check if it's got any big flaws that the agent checking for bugs missed.
Ai coding isn't strictly bitcoin related but there does seem to be a big cross over in people interested in both.

Britain is broken, in various ways. Could adopting bitcoin help it bounce back?
Renegade Investor thinks so.
Central banks printing money causes government debt and artificially low interest rates. Their monetary policy is political and done for bankers not for people.
Bitcoin monitory policy is fixed.
Lockdown during pandemic was funded by money printing, and caused a big inflation pump and government debt increase. It caused the current cost of living crisis.
Lockdown could have been impossible under a bitcoin standard.
In pounds the cost of living has gone up lots over the last decade. But in bitcoin it's gone down massively.
He thinks wealth redistribution is taking money from productive people and giving it to those who aren't increasing the country wealth. Here I disagree entirely. Wealth is reality being taken from the workers and given to the capital owners. We are redistributing wealth towards the rich currently. Taking the wealth created by workers to give to idle owners.
I also wonder, would limited government power be good? Did the lockdown save lives? Would it do do under a worse pandemic? Limited government power may be double edged.
Not sure why he thinks immigration is funded by government, rather than immigrants increasing the country wealth. Seems to think bitcoin could reduce immigration, which I find unbelievable and undesirable.
This talk I disagree with quite a lot.

A panel of people from a few different countries.
The UK, where the event is, and the US currently have money which perhaps is good enough that the people there don't see much need to replace the money. Running global reserve currency helps exploit other poorer countries. The problems are fairly invisible.
But in other countries, poorer countries with even worse money, countries more exploited by debasement of the global reserve currencies, the problems with government money are more evident. They see the need for an alternative more strongly.
Adoption is important though. Money is only money if it's widely accepted. So given the choice of more users or higher price, the panel would all pick more users.

Despite much opinion to the contrary, the government money we use is crappy.
I'm at bitfest in Manchester to find out if Bitcoin could be a better money.
It could hardly be worse.
The mood is still good, people are joking about recent devaluation rather than crying. Those who aren't all in are trying to buy more at the discount.
After an introduction by Mad Bitcoins, Joe Bryan explains the problem with government money.
He imagines an island on which two types of money are tried, with a dividing wall between them.
When economic problems hit, government can just print more money on the fiat side. Everyone now using money which is worth less. Distorting prices, inflating asset prices, making the rich (who hold assets) richer and the poor (who have to pay inflated prices) poorer. Driving wealth inequality.
On the hard money side, government must tax properly. Take in more from the rich rather than inflating to take it from the poor. Reducing wealth inequality.
On the government money side, the wealthy monitize houses, stocks, resources. Saving in money is impossible, its inflated away. So they save in assets and hording resources. Capital is misallocated. The youth can't afford houses. Poverty traps are caused. The only way out is printing more for benefits. Making it all worse. More economic crises, more printing. More government debt.
Eventually, the wall is broken. Government money people can save in the hard money instead. It reduces the value of government money further. More printing. More inflation.
Eventually, war. Funded by printed money.
The dollar is the best of a bad bunch all other government money is falling in value even faster.
I wonder, is bitcoin really this better money though? It's limited, hard, and can't be printed without energy investment.
I'm still unsure that fixing money fixes the world.

Note: "crypto" is mostly more like government money than bitcoin. It can be printed indefinitely by it's makers, does not cost it's makers to print. Crypto is usually just a scam people to get more bitcoin. Bitcoin is not crypto.

Eugene points out that in the current centralised social media, your identify is held by the provider.
On nostr, the user holds the keys to their own identity.
One identity works with many apps. It can't be revoked deleted or taken over by the service provider.
This gives you a credible exit, you own the account so you can move it elsewhere if the web host is toxic or abusive.

Panel talking about dark markets on nostr.
Nostr can be quite anonymous and encrypted and connected to payment via bitcoin. Can it therefore do Silk Road? Allow anonymous markets?
Nobody wants to publicly advocate for selling illegal drugs, but yeah, sure, people could do that. There's even protocol types for market places.
Relay owners might get into legal issues if they are forwarding illegal market listings. But this is true in general, there are also illegal images and even illegal text.
Nostr relays and Devs might find themselves in legal trouble anyway, due to the general legal crackdowns on internet requiring age proof and id on websites obstensively to protect kids. These are freedoms we all need to fight for. Perhaps brains will drain to more free jurisdictions? Devs move to where open development is legal? Not the panel at least. They want to say at home.

Angor is a crowdfunding protocol for nostr and bitcoin.
Dan here is building it. Kickstarter without middle men.
Accountability is key. What stops the fund raiser just fleeing with the coin?
Funds are programmed to be released in stages, time locked in a multisig.
So if they aren't meeting milestones, investors can withdraw. If the founders are buying lambos instead of building, just cash out at that point.
Permissionless and decentralised, no servers except nostr relays and bitcoin nodes. No third party's claiming 30 percent fees. The system is a nostr client scanning relays for investment object types. Allowing investment into the funding contracts and subscription to updates.

Black Coffee from lnbits likes internet of things, but doesn't like the way it tends to work with centralised servers and spying companies running them.
But what if your coffee pot and lights and smart plugs were nostr instead?
Nobody can cut your machine off, it has it's own keys and encryption, you could even ruin your own relay to talk to it instead of using public relays.
Remote control without having to expose the home network.
You could even make it require zaps and so make a vending machine.
Demonstration by sending lightning requests to the coffee pot on stage works better than the mikes that have been feeding back this afternoon 😆

Wouter constant is talking about permissionlessness. Nostr is a protocol that doesn't need some central server to authenticate your requests. Which is good. But this means that, say, children can use it without parents permission.
Online safety act and others are closing down the internet to protect them kids. So can nostr have accounts that do need permission? Can it be made kid safe? Of only to satisfy crazy governments under parent pressure.
Weboftrustfoundation exists to try and build kidstr, some kind of nostr for children.
Mostly just asking questions so far. How can it work? How can it avoid labelling vulnerable people to exploit?

Panel asking what nostr doesnt fix?
Relay centralisation could enable censorship, and the UI asking users to manage private keys is tricky.
Could one app become a centralisation choke point? They say no. Agreed. Nostr has very good migration here, if one app goes bad it's easy to move.
Privacy is not solved here, since almost all content is public anyway, by design. But since so users have public keys, it's a step towards enabling privacy. Agreed, and at least clients won't generally spy on every mouse click and scroll pause.
No mention of the thing I think most important, that censorship resistance means poor moderation that means bullying, spam, and harassment. That's tricky to solve I think. The fediverse model seems more suitable for good moderation.

Marti Malmi talks about cloud flare being down but nostr staying up.
Decentralised software isn't supposed to have these single points of failure, even though some clients failed due to dependency on it.
Media files in particular aren't as decentralised as we might hope. Can we decentralise that better? Content addressed media available from many servers should be better.

Hummm. The machine written code I've generated often has memory leaks and poor input validation. Chances of unnoticed xss errors or similar or SQL injection attacks doesn't seem impossible to me.
Good talk though. Might try it out some time. Presumably it'd handle making a rust site, say?

He seems to think his app Shakespeare can make it easier to make a web app by using ai 😕
"Build me a Twitter like website" is the kind of instruction he thinks it will handle.
A local app running on your own machine, though calling the big ai model apis. Including if you have the power at home to run deep seek or open models.
I find myself suspecting it'd be hard for vibe coders who aren't devs to tell if they had vibe coded buggy insecure software or not.

Went to see [Rob Manuel](https://bsky.app/profile/robmanuelyeah.bsky.social ) doing his anon_opin show.
The very first one. And my opinions are officially so great I won the very first prize. A jar of his queen themed Maam-olade.
Mostly for provoking Doctor Who discussions and having head-shaving mistakes evident I suspect.
It was a fun night in a tiny pub with mostly old grey gen-Xers agreeing with each other about trivial things and laughing.
Excellent stuff. Nice to see you again Rob. Good times were had.

So everyone's wondering if there's a financial crisis coming from the popping of the dotcom bubble.
Here's a little chart of those events, projected as though repeated from last week's stock market top.
You'd be looking at 25 to 50 percent drop over a year or three, taking S&P index down to four to five thousand or so over 2026, since that's what they were.
I think it's at least 30% likely to play out roughly like that, and am positioned such that I'm happy either way.
