throwback to a man in his 40s telling me diesels dont have sparkplugs (that is a technicality. they have glow plugs and they are required to cold start the engine. yes they can be turned off once the engine has warmed up because from then on diesel can combust from residual heat and compression alone but they are still required parts of the engine)

idk its like SID stuff? maybe its a kernel feature im not knowledgable about? to make services completely unaware of all other user processes including eachother? i think there was something like that (at least in systemd). itd be nice if s6 has an equivalent cause linux is a bit behind openbsd on isolating services from the rest of the system. pledge and unveil are such elegant fucking solutions i love them

honestly another part of why i didnt want to upstream my ports was just that chimera uses github and github's process is particularly moronic
like i could literally just email them git diffs and that would suffice to merge my shit github complicates the fuck out of it literally just to engage in data collection and force you into their ecosystem and i dont want to be there

learning the init cli is simple. s6-rc is similar enough to openbsd rc that it should be fine
the hard part is installing all of its very modular components correctly which may or may not require grabbing somebody elses packages and updating them and writing all the required services (im unfamiliar with execline which is kind of a requirement here)
theres a lot more going on than just learning the interface. theres a reason i was initially intending to install exherbo vanilla and then work on my own distro that uses s6 by default (and busybox including mdev, and musl probably, but still gcc. basically id make source-based alpine linux but with s6 instead of openrc because i dont like openrc's cli)

its a systemd distro. they dont have the manpower to maintain more options so nothing else is documented
i can go back into the installer and try to fiddle with the fstab and whatever in hopes of getting systemd to behave and ill probably end up trying that but i just... dont want to deal with it if im honest. even if the alternatives ultimately an even larger undertaking

i have essentially zero hope that ill be able to do it in a reasonable amount of time if at all because ripping out and replacing your init (and one im super unfamiliar with at that) is a process i have absolutely no experience in, on a distro i have not much experience with, at a desk i dont really find comfortable while its ice fucking cold outside making it too cold for me to get anything done most of the time
like unironically this is killing my "burying myself under my blanket" reflex because im so sick of being stuck in bed. when its warm i lie on top of my blanket now to have a clearer distinction between chilling and huddling up for warmth (it helps mentally. its freeing)
