I've never heard of anyone getting arrested for removing DRM. DRM removal tools are actively sold online with no crackdown. However people keep getting busted here and there for piracy, and piracy sites keep getting shut down.
I think at the end of the day if the copyright holders are getting paid they don't really care, and the police cares about piracy way less than they do.

I'm shutting down this community, and will be replacing it with @censorshipnews@narwhal.city. I'll go into this more in depth at some point in the future but due to some harassment of the thelemmy.club admin as well as threats of defederation against this instance, I'm shutting down my political communities here. The admin here has been very gracious to me, and I have enjoyed my time here, but it seems that these communities are hindering his ability to build the type of platform he wants here.

And Rachel Maddow blogs, which I share in @npub157e…2vz8 here and there are, if not interesting, at the very least a perspective shared by a non-insignificant portion of the population. By sharing these things, readers get a window into the thinking of people who have a different perspective than they do, which isn't just positive, but a necessary means of fighting polarization, and fueling compassion and empathy.

If any articles I share make false claims in a community like @npub15ly…pj7n then I'm more than happy to remove them. For places like @npub157e…2vz8 I'm not as careful and I hope it's clear that the stuff over there or at @npub1gfw…c60v aren't always going to be 100% true or objective.
Now as far as my behavior is concerned @bdonvr@npub1xe7…u90e if I'm no longer welcome here I'll leave. Many of my communities here are continuations of my old Lotide communities, and I only left that software because it's abandonware now. I'm sure at this point there'd be other Lemmy instances I could go to if you don't like what I post here.

We shouldn't be shutting down 2G at all. This is a terrible proposal.
3G I get, but having 2G as a baseline makes a whole lot of sense when you consider how much farther those signals can travel in comparison to 4G and especially 5G.

Wow, RIP that community then. Anybody know of a good alternative? I run @npub1gfw…c60v but the purpose of that community is strictly videos. In many cases when I see censorship in communities I make communities, but I generally don't like making ideologically tilted communities unless the content I would post literally wouldn't fit anywhere else (I did make @npub157e…2vz8 for heavily biased or opinion articles, but they can be either left leaning or right leaning).

I liked it. It was a lil clunky, but not so clunky that you'd know that it went through development hell if nobody told you. Some of the dialogue was flat and busy telling the audience what it already showed us, but most of it was competent if not good. I think the humor in this movie wasn't crazy but it was wayyyyyy better than the standard brand of "Marvel humor" we usually see. The "since when were they red?" line is basically the only moment we get of humor like that, it was quite refreshing. And no, Torres wasn't annoying in this movie, at least not to me, he was fine (although I don't like how the writers positioned him for most of the third act). The action was great for the most part even if at times it feels like Cap has Domino's superpower.
If this movie has a major flaw, it'd be that it borrows many themes and plot points from TWS and CW. But I liked those beats and they were competently handled, so the movie works for me.
I'm astounded by how poorly this movie is being received. Especially considering the rumors surrounding the reshoots and test screenings, it felt to me like it exceeded the expectations those rumors set in my mind by leaps and bounds.

Well, I think that's a little bad faith. I think if Hitler rose from the dead and took control of America or the UN or something you'd be distressed as well. This is more the result of buying too many media lies for too long than people just straight up not being able to think.
(I struggle to see how someone who gets all their facts and news from CNN or MSNBC aren't able to think as well as people who watch Fox News, the information presented almost always lines up with the narratives they are portraying)

Honestly, for the next college football season, this and ESPN Flagship will probably be all I will need more or less. If I ever want Fox News (which I like less and less over time but might still be useful for presidential debates and such), this means I'll be able to essentially get it a-la-carte. Very nice.
I appreciate that everyone is doing a-la-carte in the year I'm moving out of my parents' place lol

I disagree here somewhat. Now, maybe you know more about the background of ICE and how it's been utilized in the past, admittedly I am not. But from the outside looking in, I can't imagine a reason why ICE would have gone into reservations looking for Native Americans. If ICE usually isn't sicced on Native Americans, it would make sense that they don't have a process for validating the citizenhood of these Americans (although that certainly is quite an oversight).
As far as what documentation ICE looks for, isn't that the stuff on this list:

I think they also are subscribing to the slippery slope fallacy, assuming that those who want to deport illegals also want to have citizens deported from the country.

I've noticed a lot of troll-like behavior from many accounts saying the same thing, usually complaining about a source shared in an article. In an effort to increase the quality of the comments sections of posts made in this community, I am adding a new rule to this community.
Poisoning The Well attempts attacking a source used in an article or report shared here will subject you to a temporary ban from this community. To be clear, anyone is welcome to point out parts of a particular article that is false or seems to be without proper sourcing, but for now, statements like "X website is pure propaganda" or "X website isn't news" will not be allowed.
This isn't a rule I wanted to make, and I would like to lift it at some point, but it appears to be needed for now.
