What does this statistic mean if the people within these categories move between these categories over 30 years? Isn’t the top 20 percent always disproportionately 65 year olds with retirement accounts and paid off houses about to retire? And the lower categories disproportionately 20ish somethings with no assets to their name because, you know, they are 20? And life began exactly 20 years prior.

Yeah, that was me. I definitely have suspicions about the health care system incentives but I got one for just these kinds of things. It’s hard to access the system for things you want without a primary physician. And the stats on bloodwork etc are still useful, you can find others to interpret etc if there are others you trust more. But you may be able to find a physician that you can work with.

The first way would be to put “endorsements” in your profile. Simply stating recommendations on who to follow next.
The second way would be some kind of list. But it’s exposure would require clients or a specific client to create the list for that purpose and read others lists to convey the recommendation. Does listr already do this?
The third way would be a new kind. “Endorsements” or something similar like “recommendations” where npubs post their recommendation note to relays that clients can specify look for and aggregate into recommendations from who you follow. My two sats.

I don’t think you’re trying to influence anything, just that people interpret these statistics a bit hazardly something like whoever has the lead of percentage will win. But it’s much more uncertain than that. Yes the fact that trumps number is large does mean that he has an advantage (according to the prediction markets) but it’s incredibly slight.

How many coin flips would you need inorder to notice that the coin you were flipping was not a 50/50 coin, and instead possessed the probabilities shown above? Something like 52%/48%?
You would need about 100 flips just to get the distributions with enough resolution to distinguish 52/48 from 50/50 and then you would probably need atleast an additional 100 flips for you to be reasonably sure you didn’t have a little bad luck as even a fair coin (50/50) is unlikely to give you exactly a 50/50 split in real flips. And depending on how certain you wanted to be more flips further. This event is going to happen once. Not 100, 200, or more times. “Clear advantage for Trump side”, Is a misreading of the implied probabilities. This is fundamentally a coin flip based on the numbers shown it has about the most uncertainty possible for an event which has only two outcomes.

I’m on a kick this year of Swiss chard. In my opinion it seems like the perfect cooking green. Never had it before this year. This is essentially a chicken soup with Swiss chard replacing the noodles.
I have both the rainbow color variety and the green giant fordhook. Fordhook has appeared to be the most robust so will likely use that exclusively next year.
I grew it in my garden this year and it’s been very easy to take care off, bullet proof. And really easy to cook as a side in butter/ olive oil.
It is very mild, takes on flavor of whatever it is cooked with and seasoned, nice texture seems hard to over cook.

Nature walk at a local Nature Reserve. We were there for about 45 minutes some of that was skipping rocks at the creek. So I’m going to count 30 minutes for #31days. Let’s see if I can work in some more before the day is done. Fun to gear up the kids to reinforce the basics of preparation.

I don’t have a lot of personal experience In hating or not hating someone. Hate seems pretty extreme to me, none the less, or perhaps because of that, Yes I believe you can choose not to hate someone. More to my personal experiences that I have had, I believe you can choose to love someone. And more directly if ever in a relationship for a long enough time there will be occasions where you will have to *choose* to love them in order for the relationship to last. The love chemicals eventually wear off, or there is a testing, A rough patch. I’m not saying you should always choose it with everyone, with some people choosing to love them will be bad for you as they are toxic, manipulative, and hurtful. But it is a core belief that love is a choice. And with all other decisions as well, Otherwise you will be tossed to the winds in terms of the direction of your life by your emotions.

Not a cop, but As a practical matter my understanding is that they wait until money is exchanged for this reason. Paying the money is an overt act which is proof of intent and that an agreement between two parties is made. Otherwise “I was just blowing off steam, it was just two guys talking” is a legitimate defense. In practice people must have lived in a time before conspiracy to commit murder was a crime itself and they didn’t like the outcomes (breaking up a plan to murder before it happens and they get away with no punishment) so it becomes a law.

Let me put it like this. Zeno had a paradox where he argued all motion was impossible. You can look it up for the reference. But it was a paradox because fundamentally he predated calculus.

Does an action *doer* have free will when they do the action, when the action is predetermined.
I’ll keep it short and say perhaps it is a paradox but paradoxes may only have the appearance of contradiction because they are lacking an insight.
If all past and future is played out simultaneously perhaps there is no problem with a will created within an event simultaneously impacting the direction of that event freely across space and time. Perhaps the free will is not the contradiction, only the narrative told from beginning to end is a particular perspective.

*Significance* doesn’t have a meaning outside of the observer. Significant to whom. Already your actions are fairly insignificant to me. I don’t know you or your family, your successes and failures don’t sway me emotionally. They don’t motivate me. They are insignificant. Predetermined or not they are already insignificant, why would whether they are predetermined or not sway significance in any direction further.
Saying it is predetermined is akin to saying the past and the future have been played out already, simultaneously with the creation of the universe. But it doesn’t follow that when it all played out simultaneously that I didn’t have significance. It’s just that our observation of the universe happens in one direction so I won’t observe what my will *will* be until I get to that point in time. But it doesn’t steal my significance from me. I’m still a creature in the universe with the history I have, evolved to this point. desires, wants, plans, etc. so when I carry out my actions they are significant to me. They motivate me, etc.
As a creature in space and time my actions remain significant to me and any observer that cares to know my life.
The modifier of “real” before significance in your question, means important or significant. So this just breaks into significant significance which is either repeated word without a distinction to the meaning without it, or their must be some observer whois if my life is significant to them, then it is *really* significant, not your run of the mill significance. If god exists then ones life is only really significant if the god has an interest in your actions. If no god exists I can’t make the phrase “real significance” have any different meaning as “significance” alone. In which case the significance of the actions is still held by the observer, still primarily themselves.

Do you really mean this? Or are you baking in the limits to free speech that our societies have already performed, and so may not have felt what speech environment feels like without limits? Or are you saying what we have now works, no further limits to speech? Or are you saying we should remove the current limits? Spam is speech, shouting through a bull horn on the sidewalk outside your home at 3:00 am is speech, walking around in a placard with disturbing images on display around schools with minors is speech. This is kind of a non-statement unless you enumerate what the other rights are that you are balancing against free speech. And perhaps share an example. As it is this just seems designed to provoke people who will assume you mean ‘XYZ’ and they don’t agree with ‘XYZ’.
Here are some examples of free speech that perhaps you feel should be balanced to potentially convey what you mean:
1) It’s 3:00am and you are standing on the sidewalk in a neighborhood with a loudspeaker shouting obscenities.
2) You have drawn a disturbing image on a large poster and walk around a school on the sidewalk during their recess period with the poster.
3) Your hobby is going into public spaces and pointing at random people and shouting “They have a gun!” Before running away acting terrified.
4) I write a sworn affidavit testifying to my witness of being harmed, but I just make the whole thing up.
Is this the kind of thing? If so this is already in place correct? Do you think more needs to be done?

I finished the Netflix series and listened to a podcast about the first book. But I haven’t read it myself. The general take I got from it was anti authoritarian. Written from the perspective of someone whose sense of freedom is only their inner most thoughts amongst a greater more powerful force that can watch you all the time and explores how you survive in that. Basically layers of that nested within itself. That’s the situation for individual characters in history, that’s the situation for humanity and that’s the kind of the situation for the author the Netflix series is based on. Caveats for Hollywood etc and again I haven’t read the book.

Isn’t school funding distributed to try to achieve a more equal outcome?

Characterized as similar to RICo in the US and that scene could very well take place in the US. A conviction would require proving the organization existed and existed for the purpose of committing crimes. And sometimes i think RICO is an over reach and unconstitutional, but so far the Supreme Court doesn’t agree.
I will also say something may be unconstitutional but it takes years to work through the court and that doesn’t help anybody in the short term that is actually being harmed.

Here is the judges argument for why it’s not free speech among other arguments for the rulings they made. Free speech starts on 38.

Essentially they say he is not being charged for the words he wrote, he is being charged because the words he wrote were in the purpose of a crime to defraud someone.
My gut says this case comes down to their intent. If he was actually trying to get people to think they could vote when they couldn’t and so trick them out of it, then I think he could be guilty. If his intent was, “this is silly”, then I think he wouldn’t be guilty. Which one of those is the case is a fact question. And Juries determine the facts of the case. In this case the jury heard his claim that it was satire and they didn’t believe him.
It’s like if I use words to trick a grandma into sending me money because I pretend to be her grandson in distress. I used words, words are free speech, but the charge isn’t that I said certain forbidden words, or topics, it’s that I defrauded a grandma.
With more reflection on the original video I will say there is a lot of framing, assuming the framing is accurate it feels like a clear over reach and abuse. But if the framing is false it’s similar to the use of RICO. Which is a little shady, but that might be a better comparison in the US and can be abused.
Just my random opinion.

I don’t think so, not because of Kamala, but because the US constitution is a written document that still has enough Kasha with the courts and a Supreme Court that presently likes to try to read the thing, that these things would be clear first amendment violations. The UK doesn’t have a written constitution, I’m not a citizen or an expert but my uninformed opinion is that is easier to massage and erode, or if you are a fan of the changes “improve”.

Here is my case for why it is a technology problem:
In the “natural state” of humans, we would have little technology which preserved the value created through our labor into the future. Wealth (preserved value from a previous period into the present) would be harder to hold as it would just rot, nor could a disparity of preserved material value arise between humans as it would continually be rotted away from everyone.
Bitcoin would not be special in this regard it would be a problem caused by all technology of value preservation in proportion to the preservation enabled, Bitcoin would just be the latest improvement in the technology of preserving the value generated.
But if Bitcoin is the best value preservation technology so far, then the technology which preserves our labor value indefinitely, also enables the greatest miserliness.
I don’t think the “selfish monk” and the “orphan” are non existent, impossible caricatures, I think I see them in the motivations of many, in the fears and ideals of Bitcoin stacking in the context hyperbitcoinization. But my error may be in treating hyperbitcoinization as a serious idea and necessary result. Perhaps that belief is not as likely as I had presumed. And so the scale of the problems in 1 and 2 may not be so great.
