For reference, this is something that literally just happened to me and I am genuinely so frustrated with the whole ordeal. It's no wonder people just use proprietary slop when the alternative is some smug assholes project who doesn't care about your usecase enough to even tell you to your face he doesn't care.

I'm not sure. I don't use Mastodon, I actually use a fork of Misskey. I kind of gave up trying to figure out how to make it use the domain instead of the subdomain, it felt like it would be hard for me lol. If you figure it out though let me know! I'd be interested in trying to see if I could make it work for myself 😃

Why are so many mainstream #socialmedia websites so toxic/negative? I use #RedLib to browse #Reddit occasionally and I feel like its just getting more negative. I just saw like two posts in a row, one complaining that Linux isnt user friendly, and the other complaining that the website itself is hypocritical for hating #twitter but also posting screenshots of #tweets. I know people like @/TechConnectify criticize Fedi for being toxic but in my personal experience it feels a lot calmer that "classic" social media sites.

If you're new go with Mint and stay far away from Arch. Regardless of if you're new or not stay very far away from ZorinOS. If you're accepting suggestions and aren't using an Nvidia card, give Fedora a go

While I agree with your sentiment (I use Librewolf), I think it will be easier to bash chrome for not keeping their promises, than to force Mozilla/LadyBird based browsers up to the top of the popularity charts (They simply dont have that kind of money to go against google. I doubt they'd have it even if everyone who uses the projects donates all the income they dont use for necessities)

Thats fair. In AdGuard home you can define a Block list that other users make and contribute to (you can use the same ones as PiHole actually) I use AdGuard home because I needed to do a DNS Host override and I didn't feel like putting all the subdomains in. Pi-Hole has to put in all the sub-domains manually and thats a bit annoying for me, but if you prefer PH over AGH like I said more power to you. Like I said just curious to know if its Something I'll have to worry about but I think I'll be okay. Thank you for sharing 😄

I don't seem to be limited by lookups per month as I have well over 300k. Do you use the default AdGuard DNS server or did you change it? I set mine to Quad9s DNS.
and I mean regardless of if you changed it or not if Pi-Hole works for you all the more power to you. Not trying to say you shouldnt use pi-hole. Just curious about your situation

Thats fair. I personally advocate for even my "normie" friends to Switch and they usually do if I give them the "its better for your privacy/security" pitch, but I understand that not everyone wants to deal with having to do the song and dance for every friend, especially if they end up not switching anyway.

Ive used it before and its pretty good, although I would also recommend switching to and asking your friends to Switch to a platform that is Linux friendly such as Matrix or XMPP. Users having to install third party software to fix an issue that could've been fixed if Discord compiled electron with Wayland support is wild.

I use Jellyfin because Plex isnt foss, point blank. Self hosting apps that can spy on you or change the ToS at any point defeats the entire purpose of self hosting IMHO. I have had no personal issues running Jellyfin in docker on my homelab.

Unfortunately US schools only make learning 2nd languages a part of the curriculum after you turn 14, and even then it isnt mandatory. Our local representatives like to pretend we have the best school system in the world.

Being an #American who can only speak #english is absolute hell when you want to be involved in the #foss / #opensource community as everyone I end up talking to for support is either rude to me, thinks I'm dumb as rocks and have never operated a computer, or can't really speak the language well enough themselves to help which, fine I understand, English is hard for me sometimes so being bilingual must be insanely hard, but I really wish it were easier to communicate with people without the assumption you're a dumbass. Its probably part of the reason our movement has so many preferring to never try.
