All of the tomato plants are now producing! All but one of the tomatoes are still green, though.
It's getting to be rather a tangled thicket, but I'm nervous about trimming.
I think next year I'll only plant two tomatoes in the raised bed, but I might get another couple of half barrels. Not sure what else I could put in the raised bed along with the tomatoes.

I hate the way that the government and the media are conspiring to pretend that Iran's strikes never hit anything and do virtually no damage. Iran knows they're lying. We know they're lying. THEY know they're lying!
So why are they doing it? Just to prove that they can lie to us and there's nothing we can do about it? Is it just a flex? Or do they really believe they can just "pretend" reality away?

We have color in the garden today! One of the tomatoes on the Grape tomato plant is turning red!
I trimmed off some of the lowest branches on most of the plants—none of which were bearing fruit (the branches, not the plants). I'm still a bit confused about what other branches I should be trimming, I must admit.

Here's the change in the garden since 6/25 to today, 7/22.
It's really growing fast lately. Should I be trimming it? If so, how? Should I be trying to thin out the growth by cutting intermittent branches that don't have tomatoes or flowers on them?

It was a pretty rainy day here today, so I didn't water the tomatoes. I did look them over, though. Most of them have fruit starting, but the Celebrity plant doesn't. It's the tallest of all of them, though.
I pinched off some of the lowest branches. I've read that you should do that for the bottom 12 inches above the soil, but I assume that I shouldn't do that until the plants are at least 2 ft tall. Pinching off the majority of the foliage might be fatal!
Also, what do you DO with the pinched off branches? I've been leaving them on the soil, because I don't know what else to do with them.

It's a bit rainy today, which is good for the tomatoes. First time in about fifty years that "It's good for the crops" was personal for me!
I'm wondering if I should put chicken wire around the plants. As it stands nothing seems to have tried to eat anything, even though we have lots of birds, chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits out back (and possibly one elusive nutria, although I only saw it once and it was kind of dark. We also have deer in the general area, but I've never seen one near the house. Also there are black bears (or at least one) in Massachusetts, but I haven't heard of one within 50 miles of this place. Do bears like tomatoes?

I like to think about this question sometimes; it helps me feel better about the future.
How can we make the world better after we're free of capitalism and the oligarchs?
Some of my answers:
• Eliminate fossil fuel cars. Replace them with bicycles, adult tricycles, electric cars, expanded inter-city light rail, and massively expanded public transportation.
• Massive reforestation efforts worldwide.
• Eliminate or at least ENORMOUSLY reduce the fossil fuel industry, reserving fossil fuels for area in which replacing them would be difficult or impossible: precursor chemicals or lubrication, at a guess.
• Massive decarbonization of the world economy.
• Free education for all, including adults.
• Adoption of the "four freedoms".
I have more, but I'll stop there for now. What are some of YOUR ideas?

I dared the sun and the heat to check on the tomatoes (I'm going to water them tonight). All but one plant, the "Celebrity", now have fruit growing. They all look pretty good so far. I know that I should be removing the lower branches (apparently from the bottom 12" of the stalk), but it feels too early to be doing that!
I took a photo and labelled the varieties.

My town has instituted a stage 2 water use alert. Heavy restrictions. I'm still allowed to water my tomatoes with a watering can, fortunately. They recommend using rainwater, but I don't have a barrel, there isn't a drain spout over my unit, and it's not raining anyway!
The tomatoes look nice today, even though the heat index is over 100°.

Caged the tomatoes today. I'm not sure if the cages are big enough; if not, I'm not sure what I can do about that. I know I should have caged them when I planted them. I'll do it right next time.
But some of them already have tomatoes growing.

I splurged on a couple of half-barrels (really more like 1/3 casks) to repot the two potted tomatoes this morning. I also put some large stones in the bottoms of the barrels for drainage. They have holes in the bottoms.
I'm already seeing small green fruits on a couple of the plants! You can spot some of them in the photo.
Hot as hell today; we have a heatwave.

There's no denying it: the two pots I bought for the additional tomato plants aren't big enough. They were expensive, but even so they're too small.
But a smart friend suggested that two five-gallon •buckets• would be much more suitable, and Lowe's has them cheap. I'll have to make some holes in the bottom, but that's no problem.
I'm just worried that the repotting will be messy. But I'll deal with that.

Does anyone know how much I should be watering my tomatoes? I did three large watering-cans full today, but I don't know if that's enough. Or too much.
When I was watering this morning a small gray and black bird flew down and landed on one of the stakes about a foot away from my hand. Then it flew away again. It was pretty cool!
I've read that some of the tomato plants I have could grow to five to 8 ft tall. That's pretty hard to imagine. But if it happens, I guess I'm going to have to replace the stakes I have now. They're only about 3 ft tall.

Tomorrow I'm going to go buy tomato plants to plant in my new garden, and I'm looking for suggestions on what to buy.
It's a 14 square foot rectangular bed. I'm thinking of six plants, plus a marigold plant at each end.
The garden center has San Marzano tomatoes, and unless there's a reason not to I would definitely want to plant at least a couple of those. I use them to cook. But what other tomatoes might be good? Is it okay to have different types in the same bed?
I generally prefer red tomatoes. I've eaten other colors, and haven't enjoyed them as much. That might just be because of the color, I suppose.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any suggestions!

I usually agree with you, but I'm pretty sure that Trump got the nomination and the Presidency because of the DEMOCRATS—not the Republicans.
Forgive me for repeating what I'm sure you already know, but the Clintons initially asked him to run as part of Hillary's Pied Piper campaign. The DNC blatantly rigged the 2016 primary to rob the majority of their voters of their small-d democratic choice, and skipped the primaries ENTIRELY in 2024.
Qween Kamala insisted on supporting the genocide of Palestinian children, despite knowing that her position increased the odds of Trump winning.
Meanwhile Trump effectively •destroyed• the old Republican Party establishment. It's gone now. Finished. It may still be called the Republican Party, but it's really the Trump Party now. Which is why a lot of former Republican luminaries are Democrats now.
In retrospect it was a brilliant political coup by the Democratic Party establishment with two victims: The Republican Party establishment, and the working class. Of course when I say "Democratic Party" in this case, I mean the oligarchs and their forces of fascism.
