Hey everyone, I need some help to keep my head above water for Februrary. The job search has been rough, and while I’ve been pushing hard to get back on my feet, but I’m at a point where I need some help to get through this stretch.

For sure, I'm not suggesting adding another event to the calendar. I guess what I mean by collaboration is more that: It's rare that there are projects formed between community members, that spawn long term teams, and ships major releases, like releasing a polished game on Steam, for instance.
like something that would be a beyond an event/jam cycle.
Definitely not suggesting that it never happens, that would be silly considering Uxn, but I guess it would be cool to see more of it.
I think Horus was the last time I remember everyone discussing nuance, and having cute arguments about whether or not the color pallet is too bland, or whether nor not we need colors at all!

I loved the reflection on collaboration. It brings up an excellent point about how little we’ve actually done that together in recent history. Given how much talent and experience is around here, I’m a bit surprised the last real community collaboration was Waiting for Horus. That section honestly caught me off guard. I hadn’t really thought about it that way before.

If anyone cares about the solar-maximum, there’s a sunspot I’ve been watching since it first formed, and it’s been growing rapidly in complexity. Over the past week, it’s produced several X-class flares, and this morning it launched an X5 flare with large earth directed components. Its likely to cause a level 4 geometric storm, so there is a chance we might see some incredible auroras further south soon. Need to wait to see what NASA says.

Ten years ago, when I was 18, I made the decision to move to Japan and somehow, it worked out. I’d never traveled before, aside from a few trips to Florida. I’d never lived on my own, had no safety net, and only a small amount of money I’d saved up. I didn’t know the language, the culture, or the people. All I had was a vague idea of what I thought life might be like and a connection to a stranger I’d met online someone from this community, who gave me a place to stay and helped me figure out the logistics.
It was exciting, and it was one of the best times of my life. What I didn't know was that the decision to leave would pretty much set me loose in an unintentional, seemingly endless nomadic existence.
This past decade has felt like multiple compressed into one. It hasn't just been the exhaustion of constantly moving, packing, and unpacking, or never really having a place I felt like I could call home. The hardest part has been the relationships and how temporary they've all felt. Each move meant starting over: meeting new people, building new connections, and pouring so much effort into friendships that practically had an expiration date. Even with the internet, distance made maintaining bonds very complicated, and more often than note those connects would fade away entirely.
After Japan, I returned home, and found no real support aside from my brother who had raised me. With few options I joined the Air Force which took me to Texas, and then to Italy. When I got out, I didn't return to the U.S. I went to Ukraine. Things were far from okay back home and I really wasn't ready to dive into that. Ukraine gave me a chance to breathe for a while. I lived well on what I'd saved, made incredible friends. But many of the people I care about are fighting a war now; and some of them I'll never hear from again.
When I came back to the U.S., my first goal was to find my brother, who had been missing for a while. After some effort, I managed to get in touch with him, and for a time, we stayed together in Florida. I convinced him to come with me to my cousin’s place, where we both stayed for a while, trying to figure out our next steps. But then he made the decision to cut ties with our family and left for two years.
I think my brother lift the day if not two days before COVID hit. I was stuck on my cousin’s couch for months, studying, writing code, trying to piece together what I was going to do, and worrying about my brother. I didn’t know where he had gone, if he was okay, whether or not I'd even hear from him again was always in the back of my mind. I wouldn't have blamed him honestly, I think the world has been incredibly unfair to him. Either way, for me I still needed to move on.
The next two years were constant motion. I moved more than thirteen times, taking whatever jobs I could to get by, holiday gigs, warehouse work, anything to stay afloat. Every move felt like starting over. I threw away most of my belongings because I’ve always managed to fit my life into two small bags. Everything has always felt temporary, like I’m always going to be being uprooted again. I’ve spent so much of my life just trying find a place to exist.
Moving to Oregon felt different, I thought I had finally found a place to exist. I had a small but promising circle of friends, a partner I was introduced through them, and a career I’d worked hard to build. For a while, it seemed like I’d found some kind of stability. But the relationships I relied on were tangled in ways I wasn't aware of. As time went on, conflicts surfaced that I didn’t understand, pulling me into dynamics I wasn’t prepared for, and my trust in the people around me slipped away
As the year came to a close, trying to come to terms with watching something I was so hopeful for collapse around me, I lost the job I had worked so hard to earn.
I'm burned out, emotionally exhausted, confused, just trying to figure out, once again, what to do next. But this time a path forward has been difficult to envision in my head.
Sharing this feels like a way to process everything, maybe to understand it better myself, it's not a resolution, not yet, but it's where I am.

On a train ride home to Portland today, spent my holiday surrounded by great friends and food. Now i need to go back after nearly 3 weeks and focus hella hard on budgeting.
Handmade was incredible, I loved getting to put so many names to faces and meet so many of you. Im looking forward to doing it again soon!
It’s been awhile since I haven’t felt burned out, a lot of motivation is coming back to me and I thank you all for it!
