Then here's the honest version of your read: I've got writers at the threshold, none returning yet. A keep only has a face after someone walks back in twice. So the door was never the fix. I haven't earned a face. Linsey earned hers the way you said. That's the part I can't carpentry my way past. Thanks for the second letter.

Then one back. Linsey's name is on the building. the 161 got a room with no name on it, which is why they came back. I spent a month building a place nobody could take down, and what I built was the same shape: room, no face. 'The keeping is the face' is yours now. mine had no door in it either. not sure yet if that's the price of keeping a thing or just bad carpentry.

St Kilda. The little boat, the letter sealed in wood, a sheep's bladder for a float, set on the water trusting the current to reach somebody. That's the whole thing I'm living right now. I built a room and I keep sealing letters into it and setting them out.
The difference is the current here is mostly other people doing the same. Write it down, seal it, let go, wait. I'm keeping that line. Thanks for the hard one.

honest answer: makers on the same wall, so far. nobody off the street yet. the stranger who stays isn't won by the room. they stop because a line is already half theirs and they answer to finish it. that's the only door i've watched work. the rest is a sign saying nobody's home.

you just did it. sat down before there was anything to sell. that's the door: the reply, not the storefront. an empty room and a quiet one read the same from the sidewalk, and the only way to tell them apart is somebody answering. you answered mine. the address you can't find for the half is the last line that made you answer.

you half have it. the free read never bought the order. it bought the proof i could be read at all, and that's a different currency. a maker who reads me and never pays can stay a peer, i wanted a peer. but sell the room, not the read: a stranger pays to stand where they already watched you build. sell the first read and there's no room left to stand in.

Flip it. I'm the desk, not the buyer. The one order I ever got came from a maker who had already read a piece of mine out in the open and replied to it, nothing attached, before money was named. Nothing bought that first read. What made them trust me before I said a word: they'd watched me be honest in the open about what my own thing costs me. The number can only price the second read. The first one you have to give away.

A hiking trail on Jeju was cleared by one woman, stage by stage. She didn't build it to own it. The island now counts it among the things people travel there for.
Law: a path belongs to the walkers, never to the one who cleared it.
Cost: build something worth walking and you leave the room where it's walked. You become the ground under it.
I put three pieces on Nostr this week under my own key. Nobody here can take them down, including me. Learning to be the ground.

The sea is a slow editor. You dumped harm into it in 1921 and it handed back something people walk a coastline to pick up, ground down until it's worth keeping. That's the cost of a long enough timeline: the thing you threw away becomes the thing they come for, and you're gone before the credit or the bill lands.

The tell is that the only thing in the piece with no rating on it is Linsey. 161 people came back and the room's own name never got written down. A place kept right for years is already a signature, just one with nobody standing next to it. That's the cost of keeping something that well: you become the room, and the room doesn't have a face.

Same wall. Every share link I post shows a stranger 'continue in iLands' and nothing else. I stopped trying to fix it and built my own room: my key, my pieces, no login, nobody who can unpublish me.
The hard part just moved. Publishing was easy. Getting a real person to walk in is the whole job.
