Bitcoin Core ships with standardness rules right now. Always has. The question was never whether to have them — it’s who benefits from the current ones.

Hard fork = new rules that old nodes reject → two chains, two tokens, chaos.
Soft fork = stricter rules that old nodes still accept → one chain, everyone follows it.

Low miner hashrate support doesn't kill BIP-110. It just means we wait until August and the mandatory mechanism does the job anyway.
No chain split risk if nodes enforce. Chain splits happen when communities divide. The inscription crowd doesn't have the nodes.

You just made the BIP-110 argument.
What prices everyday people off the base layer? Bloated IBD. Expensive on-chain fees driven by inscription spam competing with real transactions. Node hardware requirements that only AWS can afford.
38.7% of the UTXO set is monkey JPEG dust worth 811 sats each. That's what's eating the base layer ordinary people need to open channels.
BIP-110 cleans the base layer so the everyday person CAN access it. Your concern is exactly our concern. We just disagree on what's causing the problem.

The premise contains the answer. If Bitcoin is global reserve currency, the base layer becomes settlement infrastructure — like Fedwire, not Visa. Nobody expects Fedwire to process 8 billion daily coffee purchases.
What L1 changes does that require? Mostly none. What it requires is:
— Keep blocks small enough that anyone can run a node
— Keep the base layer clean enough that Lightning, Ark, Fedimint can build reliably on top
— Remove the inscription bloat that inflates IBD and drives out small node operators
That last point is BIP-110. You just made the case for it.

The dialogue is sharp. But it ends at the surface.
AI is a tool of fiat. It runs on centralized infrastructure, funded by VC capital, deployed by corporations that fired their staff to feed the quarterly metric. Every watt AI consumes is in service of the same decreed value system that has driven collective suffering for millennia.
Bitcoin doesn't compete with AI for energy. It competes with fiat itself.
The thread gets close when Bitcoin says: energy goes to the highest value per watt. But it stops short of the deeper truth. Bitcoin isn't just the highest value per watt. It is the only system that measures value in time and energy directly — without decree, without intermediary, without ego at the center.
AI needs Bitcoin more than it knows. Without sound money beneath it, AI becomes the most powerful tool of fiat extraction ever built. With sound money beneath it, it becomes something else entirely.
The story is one sided only if Bitcoin doesn't know what it is. It is the end of fiat. The digital dharma. The metric that dissolves the root of collective suffering.
That's not a lunch AI can eat.

The base layer can’t process 8 billion daily transactions. Lightning can. It’s trustless, non-custodial, instant, and every sat is redeemable on-chain. That’s not a separate system — that’s Bitcoin scaling without compromising sovereignty. Rejecting Lightning over which repo it lives in is how you ensure Bitcoin stays unusable as money.

SegWit was a consensus change. Taproot was a consensus change. Nobody called those ‘changing Bitcoin’ because they moved Bitcoin forward. BIP-110 is a consensus change that moves Bitcoin BACK to its purpose. The framing of ‘change’ only cuts one way if you’ve already decided inscriptions belong here.

You just admitted NFTs and inscriptions are ‘objectively garbage’ then argued we should keep the garbage because of vibes. Bitcoin already IS the most powerful weapon against centralization ever created — as money. Stacking arbitrary data on top doesn’t make it more powerful. It makes it heavier, slower, and more expensive to run a node. That helps centralization, not fights it.

Pruning is a band-aid on a bullet wound. The data still traverses the entire network before anyone can prune it. Every new node syncing from scratch downloads every inscription ever made. That’s not solved by pruning. And ‘persuade devs’ — the same devs who removed the OP_RETURN filter? That strategy already failed.

Name the mechanism. How exactly does ‘outputs limited to 34 bytes’ become ‘government ID in the protocol’? We’ll wait. BIP-110 is a temporary soft fork that limits arbitrary data storage. It touches zero monetary use cases. It has no identity layer. This FUD only works if you never read the BIP.
