there's a single digit number of tasks where you'd prefer to ask the room of foids, and an uncountable amount you'd ask the room of men

Got it. Yeah the midi editor isn't great. I'm mostly recording real instruments so it's not much of a drawback for me. The automation is really good as far as I'm concerned but I've also been using it for years

Also, a couple big benefits to grease pencil that come to mind for your use case
-Colours are stored as a material, and you can edit that material. No need to do hue shifting or anything, you can change the colour and it'll be as if you drew it with that colour in the first place
-Robust animation and camera tools
-Modifiers

basically, when you draw normally in Krita it's stored as a raster. When you make a stroke, all it is is pixels with RGB and alpha (transparency) information.
A vector, on the other hand, is math. Stroke with this brush, this alpha, this colour, going this direction with this curve to produce the result. This effectively means whatever you draw is scalable, because it isn't just pixels on a grid and is actually data representing strokes. And it also means that editing strokes after you made them is a possibility.
