Is it unethical per se to be a capitalist/shareholder?

As does necessary healthcare, food, clothing, shelter, etc. Things that keep you alive.
Keeping people alive is more important than preserving wealth. Even if said wealth was earned through labour.
Note that I am not saying that we should directly put people in work camps to provide those things. Something similar to what we have now in many countries with taxation and public funding of necessities is fine.

Yes, I sincerely believe in freedom of speech. Is there a problem with that? Does that make me a "sea lion"? What even is a "sea lion"? Someone who asks questions? What's wrong with asking questions? Curiosity and debate are good things.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a charitable organisation that receives and buys stock in companies and holds it on behalf of their workers, letting the workers vote with that stock.
That might be a small avenue to workplace democracy.
If it ever gets enough of a company, it could turn it into a proper co-operative.

The discourse and mainstream messaging around conversion therapy is so dumb.
"It changes sexual preference so it's not a therapy"
"LGBT is not an illness"
This misses the point: society is wrong in having a "mental health bible" of illnesses that all psychologists consult religiously to see if a patient is "truly ill".
The measure of mental disease ("dis ease") is whether it hurts the patient.
If the patient is unhappy with their sexuality, they should be able to get it cured.

But for local software, regardless of whether the source code is available or not, security researchers can ensure that there are no backdoors taking control away from the user. And regardless of whether forks are allowed, they are still possible for people who are willing to break the law (albeit if the software is being shared in a lawless zone, malware is an issue and revealing of personal info is a risk).

True. I can still technically pay devs to work on code for me. Idk how much that costs or whether I can afford it though. And I am planning on eventually learning how to develop software (I already know the basics of coding and can write and audit simple programs/scripts).

What use does free software have to non-programmer users, if any?
I guess the "freedom to run the programs as you wish, for any purpose" would cover a lot of that. But what exactly? It's a bit vague.
The only reason I prefer free software is because a) it's free as in price, b) it tends to be less user-hostile, but that seems to be more due to developer goodwill than anything guaranteed by licenses, and c) habit.

VPNs aren't easier than Tor.
Well, I guess if you want to pass different kinds of traffic through it, configuring the daemon is more difficult than just installing a dedicated client for your commercial VPN of choice. But if you just want to browse the web, Tor Browser is easy to install.
This is not the case on Android with Orbot.
