Subjective question. Not possible to answer that. Do your personal preference/wants/tastes reflect that of everyone around you?
Maybe in Bitcoin terms, is the market made up a collection of individuals all making their own personal decisions or just mindlessly drones who all think alike so it is possible to centrally plan them all from one set of options?

Depends who is listening. Tbh people will always want to craft things and care about their craft. The world with very cheap generated AI code doesn’t change this but it does amplify the noise.
After the printing press can along artists didn’t stop painting but the market did get tons of prints of paintings for people to hang up on their walls. It democratised the art some but didn’t detract from the quality work because they were never in competition. Perhaps the same can be true for software.

Hate to break it to you but these are part of the Penguin books hardback classic cloth bound range. It is a British company. They do look beautiful though, love that that redid the classics like this.

It is a tough one. Zaps have the potential to help force paid advertising models out into the light. So it is good to explore these models and see what works. On the flip-side individuals paying for attention and engagement seems a bit cringe.
Maybe this it is the kind of model that works well for companies as their incentives are clearly to sell/promote a product. Too many ‘influencers’ are just looking to make themselves the product, which is a carry over from the old Twitter et al. framework. We can do better.

Have been doing something similar in fiat mining world. Building out agents and giving them access to internal required macros as tools. If you have heavy standardization in the way you produce business deliverables this plays really well with faster initial code generation. Soooo deflationary!

When you’re logged in with the new nsec click on share my profile (bottom of the Home Screen), that should open up the library card page. Otherwise, “openlibrarian.com/card/npub…” should get you there as well. Let me know if you continue to experience issues and I’ll do some digging on my side.

📚 GM all nostr book lovers. In case you weren’t already aware the very early first version of Open Librarian has been released and is live.
Open Librarian is a FOSS book and reading tracking web-app (a little like GoodRead). It is Nostr native and still got a long way to go but I’m proud of the work so far.
Currently I recommend folks wanting to test it spin up a new NSEC (can do it through the app). I will be adding an import feature in future for you to be able to copy your shelves from one key to another. In the meantime, have a go with searching for books and adding them to your library shelves.
Features in the works:
- Tracking progress
- Reviews
- Personal challenges.
Further out there will be socials etc. but the books 📕 and reading 📖 take priority!

Awesome, yeah will have a listen. I know the fountain team are looking at audio books so it will be great to link in with them.
My focus is books reading, tracking, challenges, reviews and maybe pointing folks to where they can find/read books since open library have a lot of books available to borrow. Further out I’d like to do more like allow books markets. If you are interested I have a rough roadmap on my GitHub readme.
What is your client’s focus? A review app? I hear @npub1a2c…w83a asking after something like that as it has some great benefits with nostr’s social graph for surfacing relevant reviews.

Got to be careful though as it is all about balance. You may want the network to get stronger and one way to do that is to think about how other may leverage your content/kinds. You don’t want to just ignore outright the good work done by others and re-invent the wheel (but make it so it only fits on one vehicle).
It takes a certain level of experience as well with the network to make the statements you have made (valid though they are). New folks (self included) may not be so confident, which is where having direction from NIP helps.

Finally, after all the amazing work by the team over at the Internet Archive their sister site ‘Open Library’ is back up and running allowing access to their book APIs again.
Great work from that team, a sounds like a mammoth effort took place to steady the ship.
Good new is that OpenLibrarian the nostr client is back up and running now. If you’re a bookish person please go check it out and leave comments/feedback on the GitHub repo.
Spin up a new Nym if you’re concerned about entering your current nsec. Will add other login options in the future.

100%, book tracking isn’t a new thing and as you say there are others out there doing something similar.
First difference I am going for is building this on the open social graph that Nostr offers. This has some really interesting opportunities for social engagement, cross-application conversions, avenues for authors to directly connect with and monetise their content. I’ve also built it on the Open Library stack which offers the possibility of getting books into people’s hands as they do have a range of books available to be borrowed. Further out I am looking at how with integrating things like zap.stream it could be possible for authors to have direct video dialogue with fans (book readings, interviews etc.) and maybe even allow independent book sellers to have nostr powered shopfronts in OL.
As for what I think something like Open Librarian can do for Nostr, I believe it could make the protocol more approachable for non-Bitcoiners. I am also thinking that this sort of specialisation is critical to Nostr flourishing, I will not be building the regular fire-hose of kind 1s into the app but am instead thinking about tailoring the view to books (and related) content by maybe using tags for feeds and topic specific ‘chat rooms’.
Outside of that I and hoping to strike the balance between fun social book tracking app and not being a drain on people’s time. Let’s face it we’d all like folks to spend more time reading than scrolling the socials!!

Built a nostr client (Open Librarian) that is a book tracking/reading app. If you’d like to try it out visit www.OpenLibrarian.com 📚
Currently it is just MVP with these features:
- Find books and add to shelves
- Manage shelves (inc. hidden books)
- Manage profile
- View Friends/Foes (import from another npub)
- User profile for sharing (Library Card)
- Add interests
- Manage relays
- Login with NPUB/NSEC/Seed
For now I highly recommend spinning up a new NSEC. I’ve added the ability to import your existing friends/foes, will add cloning profiles asap.
Everything is stored client side in cache. Built using django framework, rust-nostr and on the amazing work of Open Library. Feedback and issues on the GitHub very welcome.

There in lies the difficult bit I think.
Maybe look around at what variety’s are native to you and then maybe have a search online for how they are different. Leaves will be different sizes/shapes possibly. Grab a couple of hops of the plant crush/rub them between your palms firmly to see how strong a scent they give off that will probably help the identification.
If they don’t have much scent maybe just use them in the main brew and finish with a dry hop of another variety. I did something similar with my hops plant a couple years ago, it was more the fact that I could say my hops were in it than that they made a massive difference to the brew (though I didn’t have much, it is a bit colder here).
If they are super strong in scent maybe dry hop with them. Also don’t forget to pick and dry them first.
