Mocking the powerful is an ancient democratic custom; the #Athenians took it to extremes, judging by the way #Aristophanes mocked all known #political and cultural figures of his time.
The ancients weren't content with that though; there was #ostracism, the expelling of those thought to be influential enough to be considered a threat to democracy. No justification was required, just a set number of votes.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that #Ingenuity's base station assembled out of COTS parts has suffered only the loss of 25 bits of memory out of 1 GB of RAM, which were isolated so that the new MGL algorithm could run.
The little #MarsHelicopter concept, including its innovative design both in aerodynamics and in electronics, proved to be much more useful than initially anticipated. No fanfare, big budget or hype, just very capable and passionate people doing their best.

A new technology from #NASA #JPL enables #Perseverance to figure out its whereabouts without calling humans for help.
Dubbed Mars Global Localization, it features an algorithm that compares panoramic images from the rover’s navigation cameras with onboard orbital terrain maps, and runs on the CPU originally used by Perseverance to communicate with #Ingenuity. Calc's a fix in 2min with 25cm accuracy.

Yes, only they did not use #AI.
The paper itself doesn't even once mention the words "AI" or "Artificial Intelligence". Not once. And that's done purposefully by the researchers, who respect their own work and their colleagues/readers reading their paper. Their model used ModernBERT, not GPT or any other LLM.
The use of vague, over-hyped marketing buzzwords like "AI" blurs the work of the researchers who went into great lengths in their paper to describe how they did it.

Yeah, unfortunately that's a #fallacy and deGrasse Tyson knows better, but chooses hypotheticals like "if you have the power". It's like trying to land on Mars but only managing to skid on the outer atmosphere and never entering it.

That depends on whether they will follow the next page from the fascist book and declare some kind of emergency which they can then use as a pretext to declare martial law.
Trump has already tried to do that with the BLM protests, and has discussed invoking the Insurrection Act.

The #Hera spacecraft's final destination is the binary asteroid system Didymos, where #NASA's #DART spacecraft had previously collided, giving scientists the opportunity to study the deflection of the asteroid's orbit.
Tomorrow, Mar 12, 2025, Hera will perform a flyby of #Mars, to shift the spacecraft’s trajectory, shortening its trip by months and saving substantial fuel.

I agree, they do have a higher obligation. Who we, and they, think 'the nation' actually is remains to be defined.
I've used the graph below many times as a numbers-don't-lie support for my cynicism. I can't use a similar graph for FDR or Trueman or LBJ or Carter though; their numbers tell a different story.

#Ingenuity amazed everyone in late April 2022, when it flew around and captured images of the parachute and backshell that brought #Perseverance and itself to #Mars.
Here, the parachute is seen from orbit through the eyes of #HiRISE, an instrument onboard #NASA's #MRO, launched back in 2005.
The animation spreads over 12 months but lasts only 3 seconds, so the parachute appears flapping.

#Flight41 of #Ingenuity scouted Rocky Top, an area north of Three Forks where #Perseverance spent a considerable amount of time during the first phase of its mission, before ascending to the Jezero delta. California would have a much stronger case, based on hard (very hard indeed) evidence, but Vermont is maybe too progressive to be an example for the rest of the US, even for Democratic leaning California. Dems haven't shown much enthusiasm in holding those responsible for #ClimateCrisis to account.
Of course it's never too late to start naming, shaming, and blaming them. Court action may happen along with preparing the people for such a path, which is IMO the right way of doing it.

On this day, in 1973, students in #Greece took to the streets to demonstrate against a #US backed military junta that had grabbed power 6 years earlier ( #POTUS #LBJ ), by overthrowing a centrist government with the help of the king. It ended in bloodshed. Less than 10 months later, the country had abolished the monarchy and returned to #democracy. The junta were convicted for high treason, and sentenced to death.

The loner rock we saw in NAVCAM images yestersol, now seen with MCZ (MastCamZ) at max zoom. It's approx 15m away and has a visible width of ~1.5m.

I can understand tactics and political calculation, but the whole US political environment is full of taboos and religion-like beliefs. Those in power have managed to make the word "politics" a pejorative, and have persuaded the people that it is them, with their once-in-4-years vote, who run the show; that is, the show most of them abhor. Systemic US propaganda rivals that of the Soviets.

Of course they are not comparable, but not talking about it because it's "pointing fingers" is just another way to say the "dear leader" and his entourage did everything right.
It's been more than half a century that sophisticated tools exist which can play scenarios and analyze outcomes, if one doesn't trust ones ability to "read the room", which one shouldn't, of course. That's why tools exist.
It's getting policies right what I'm interesting in, rather than accountability.

Why would a postmortem investigation be called "finger pointing"? Why would it be so important to shield those responsible, if an investigation showed they did wrong?
TL;DR
Think about the Space Shuttle accidents. Their investigations led to a thorough understanding of the problems both in the design and, most importantly, in NASA's culture, that contributed to the accidents.
"Not the time to point fingers" sounds a lot like what is said by Republicans after mass shootings.
