the problem I see with that is trust. How do I know that this random site of that musician that I just discovered, is not a scam and will not rob my money if I enter my credit card. That’s the hardest part of online retail. And if we have a handful of co op companies who can be the trustees in the middle, this will help.

Plenty of folks here are like “lol Mastodon is so great, zero outage because of Amazon or Microsoft going down”.
But please realize that a huge chunk of Mastodon runs on Hetzner gear.
So if Hetzner goes down, Mastodon will for most users. This will happen. Nothing is perfect, and humans make mistakes.
And no, everyone running their Mastodon on their own home lab is not the solution here.

You know why we Germans are so pedantic about data protection? Someone around 90 years ago went through all records available, selected people with certain criteria, with the help of IBM, and then killed them all.
We don't want to be on any list.
And now the US Gov and Musk are trying to get access to all data they have about every person and put them into a big fat DB and run AI over it.
I am afraid what they will do with that.

#Merz will show everyone tomorrow that you cannot start a government with that man. Whatever will happen after the election, it will be super bad. He could have had an easy win. His only task from December until the end of February was to shut the fuck up. He was leading the polls.
But this demonstrates what a fragile little man he is. He couldn't handle saying nothing. Instead, he will try to install a law that dismantles everything Europe stands for.
I am afraid for our future.

Well, this is a first. I opened up an issue on a GitHub Repo and an #AI tried to solve the issue. The code is utter crap and does not what the ticket described. When can we stop this utter nonsense? It just wastes my time and tons of CPU cycles.

I now changed 3 of these dumb thermostats to ZigBee enabled ones. Now I can set the temperature and program things like:
- heat the room for 2 hours, the floor keeps the room warm for the whole day.
- automatically only heat if the average daytime outside temperature is lower than 10 degrees
- move the valve once a week for a short period in summer so that they don’t get stuck and don’t work in winter
So many nice wins. Thanks #homeassistant

#GrownUp hack: every time you buy a new hardware thing, search for a pdf version of the manual. Store it on your disk with a filename that you can easily search for.
Next time you have a problem with that thing, you won’t need to search for that small paper printout in font size 4 😅.

"devDependencies": Packages that are only needed for local development and testing.
