I've been trying out Brave's new Origin browser. It's a de-bloated version of their main browser.
It doesn't feel different at all lol. I guess it's just for people who REALLY don't want the AI integration.

I drove through there once. It looked cool but was waaaay to hot and dry for me.

Ok I'm just finding excuses to try out new custom emotes at this point :duckhunt:

2026-04-07 16:40:27 UTC

App updates will be slower for the next couple of months while I finish up my last full quarter in school and rebuild the GUI from scratch for both apps.
It'll be a lot of work, but totally worth it.

I feel like cell phones should be more of what they used to be in the 2000s. Texting, calling, and a handful of other useful tools like maps.
Phones just don't need to be big doomscrolling / surveillance machines that spy on us and wreck our mental health.

2026-04-06 19:28:21 UTC

I got rid of all the social media from my phone except for Retro-Gaiden. I just don't need the constant distractions.

2026-04-06 16:16:05 UTC

I've started rebuilding the main GUI of my apps in the new framework and it's worlds better.
Once I finish the rebuild, both apps will hit official v1.0 status and support rich text, alpha channels, frames with rounded corners, etc. It'll be a massive upgrade.

The GPU just randomly decided it didn't want to work anymore on Linux. Very cool. Switching GPUs fixed it.

When I was a teenager I had this wild idea that politics was a big show and the only path forward was to become so independent from government that it becomes irrelevant.
Then Trump happened and I got all caught up in that political / culture war nonsense.
Now I've realized I was right in the beginning. Politics and culture war crap only exists to divide and rule.
Now we're in a hot war and it's partially my fault for letting myself be deceived.

Pearl UPDATE!
The hotfix for Windows users is finally here - v0.3.1 is built with Pyinstaller again and has additional metadata attached on Windows, improving compatibility with Windows Defender.
This should fix the "program just won't load" issue from the past 3 versions on Windows.
This update also features additional security and stability updates with a more organized code structure.

it wouldn't be signing in with Google, it'd be *the app would even open* on stock Android :guilded_lul: Google is trying to make it so you can't even open apps that aren't registered with them first. Otherwise, it would be custom ROMs like GrapheneOS only.

If I make a Pearl android app, should I give in and sign it with Google so the normies can use it, or brass balls release it only for de-Googled android users?

Speed, stability, and additional features have also been added.

Society isn't in decline because of one specific issue you could point to. It's death by a thousand cuts.
Every day millions of people:
- Use Google instead of privacy respecting apps
- Buy poison-laced & other unhealthy food instead of organic
- Go into debt unnecessarily
- Give money to large streamers rather than those who really need it
- etc.
Often when better options are available, even free or low-cost, with very minimal effort to switch.
It's the small decisions that add up.

2026-03-14 17:39:39 UTC

IT'S ALIVE!
In the next build, Pearl will be able to utilize other devices on the local network for different purposes (chats vs context detection).
It's an advanced feature few users will take advantage of, but is very powerful and highly recommended.
Soon, you will be able to use Pearl from any compatible Linux/Windows device on your LAN 💫

Another big update for Pearl!
Pearl is now pre-compiled to C for Windows as well as Linux, creating a consistent experience across OS's.
The number of accepted filetypes has roughly tripled as well and default TTS functionality has been greatly improved.
Overall, this update focuses on speed, bug fixes, and stability.

I worked basically non-stop for the past 3 days to bring Pearl up to speed with all of the feedback I've been given.
Linux users now have a simple install for Docker and Kokoro, enabling enhanced TTS.
Both Windows and Linux users will also notice a more responsive and bug-free UI, along with helpful uninstall buttons in settings.

Man Odysee really needs work with livestreams. The way that they handle streams with any lag is to repeat segments of the stream until the lag ends, rather than just buffering and adding a delay. It's SO bad on the app.
