Currently, you should be especially cautious when you read articles about accessibility by people who haven't written much or nothing about the topic before.
There are a lot of new “experts” that try to cash up because the EAA draws in a lot of attention.

It's in the spec. It isn't active by default, only ESC. You can disable any user initiated close by setting `closedby="none"`.

The latest version of Chrome comes with a new light-dismiss behavior for the dialog element, which enables a native click-outside feature. That's fantastic! Reading the announcement, I wondered how many ways there are to close a dialog element.

FF and Chrome are usually up to date but major updates of Safari are tied to OS updates which people don't usually do immediately when a new version is released.
