The FTC has demanded OpenAI provide records related to complaints about false, misleading, disparaging, or harmful statements made by its products about people, as well as records related to a security incident that occurred in March. The investigation comes as the FTC warns that existing consumer protection laws apply to AI and new regulations are being considered.

Enshittification is when an online platform becomes more monetized and less user-oriented the longer it lasts. The term was theorized by Canadian writer and thinker Cory Doctorow to describe the trajectory of platforms like TikTok, Amazon and Twitter. He argued that platforms start out serving users by offering features that lure them in, then they serve advertisers and third parties by offering ad targeting and deals, and lastly they serve themselves and their shareholders by cheating and exploiting both advertisers and users. Doctorow calls this process "enshittification."

Going to switch to Android when I upgrade, but does anyone know if Apple’s passkey feature for iOS17 would make it easier to switch between iOS Nostr clients? (I understand giving my private key to Apple is also bad).
Or do current iOS apps only store the private key client side already?
Apologies if these are dumb questions, but I’m a little hesitant to give each app on iOS my private key. #nostr #apple #asknostr

No they’re still stored on other Nostr relays you’re a part of so you can move to a different iOS or web or android app for nostr and still access your history, followers, following, etc

Yea I feel like for now it’s up to builders and the current community to demonstrate the benefits of adoption. Otherwise decision fatigue sets in and users just stick with good enough (Twitter, unfortunately). Not enough users will get convinced to switch based on concepts like decentralization or freedom from censorship. Once good, user friendly onramps to different nostr use cases have been built, network effects and word of mouth should help with users imo.
