Mobile version of nosmero has been completely refactored.
It is no longer trying to be 1:1 with the desktop version which was the sole reason it was so buggy. It is now much more stable in either iOS or Android.
It's now fine for browsing, posting, and searching.
Major change is no tip jar, but it still has a deeplink when you tip so the monero wallet you have on your phone gets populated with the tip info.

If the entirety of the paywalled note was just "text" then this is what happened.
When you toggle paywall the note there is a text entry for preview text below the main writing box. It is visible text that can be used to explain (sell) what is paywalled e.g. "Here is my explanation of how I..." The note text at the top is the encrypted paywalled text.
However, the preview text is optional. If the entirety of the note was "text" and there was no preview text entered, then the built in feature that automatically pulls the first few characters of the note text as the preview text had nothing to work with, so it had to display "test"

Which client are you using that displays the plaintext of the note?
I've tested the npub and noteID with njump, primal, and nostrudel and all still show the encrypted blob card.

📦 IPFS media is now live on nosmero. Insert a CID into a post or "upload" to IPFS instead of the regular media attachment.
You can still insert media through the existing process but I added the IPFS option for those with a library of CIDs or if you want to create a shareable link of the file that can open in any browser through the nosmero IPFS gateway.
Each npub gets 500 MB of CID pinning (IPFS "uploads").
Click the 📦 in compose → pick a file → post.
You can manage what you've "uploaded" to IPFS under the new "IPFS Media" tab in the hamburger menu.
*Why IPFS? * Your media stays fetchable from any public gateway (dweb.link, ipfs.io, etc.), not just nosmero's gateway.

What's cool about p2p solutions like Swarmnero is the ability to share files of any size without server hosting concerns. Files are sent from your machine directly to the follower's machine.
To protect follower's bandwidth, though, it gives a notice that author's post media is >25MB so can opt in to downloading to your feed. There is a thumbnail preview and fie size to help you make the decision.

Nosmero Update:
Unique subaddress per note - Each note gets its own subaddress from your Tip Jar. This can be disabled if you wish.
Profile address rotation - Your profile tip address rotates through subaddresses from your Tip Jar. This is also optional.
Tip tracking - Your transaction history now shows which note each tip was for.

When you say restore from 0, are you saying 0 monero block height or the block height saved from when the wallet was created in nosmero?
If you are using an incognito tab that would explain why the delta sync isn't working.
Using regular browser tabs, nosmero saves sync heights to localstorage so unlocking is from last sync instead from start height.

-made a ton of backend changes to nosmero and cleaned up almost the entire the codebase over the past week. Nosmero users will probably not notice much, perhaps a slightly faster response on some things
-squashed a couple of bugs that you might have noticed before but which weren't necessarily breaking anything, i.e. there are now USD equivalents displayed next to monero amounts for all tip options
-reminder to update your default tip amounts, the bull run XMR has been in means to do ~5 cent USD tip it needs to be ~0.00011

Updated nosmero with some bug fixes and improved functionality of the new right column layout.
Also added a new feature: support for "classic internet" username/password account creation to smooth any onboarding of mainstream social media users. The private nsec key is encrypted in your browser. Nosmero stores only the encrypted version using the NIP-49 standard (scrypt + XChaCha20-Poly1305). The user's password uses ncryptsec for local storage and for authentication nosmero stores the bcrypt hash. So, in the event of a hack with full root access, attacker can only get bcrypt hashes and encrypted blobs.
I still recommend nsec logins, of course, but in the interest of mainstreaming nostr (and Monero) I agree with the other clients that offer the classic account management option.

Over the last week I fixed the Tor bug where the tip jar wouldn't sync with the node. Long story short, once a tip jar had enough transactions, the memory needed to do what monero does to keep things private wasn't adjusted right.
After much trial and error it should be trouble-free now for both Tor and clearnet access.

Not sure what you mean. Both, as far as I can tell, should be able to send XMR between users of the respective clients. My goal has been for nosmero to be just another nostr client option, but with monero tips instead of Bitcoin zaps being the economy.

Good Day Monero Fans!
I’ve been researching and testing the following which I think might be of help to the XMR ecosystem. They have now been turned on for nosmero:
Monero Tip Jar
- This is a non-custodial browser hot wallet (your keys, your coins)
- Create new or restore from seed phrase
- This is not mandatory. You can still tip or unlock notes (see below) with the existing QR code option (hardware wallet compatibility coming soon)
- The queue function also works with the tip jar, so you can tip multiple notes all at once to deal with only one 10 confirm lockup
- Tor support with randomly connected remote nodes for maximum privacy
Paywalls
- I think it would be nice for content creators to have the option make a little XMR off their effort. So I’ve also added locked notes.
- Instant unlock when paying with the tip jar (tx_key auto-captured). You can unlock with external wallet, of course, but unlock is not instant, you’ll need to paste tx id and tx key from transaction to unlock.
- No middleman, the funds go directly to creator's address (either your tip jar address or whatever address is in your profile)
- Locked content is encrypted with AES-256-GCM , unlocks are tracked locally in your device, but also on nosmero if you clear local storage. The content of the unlocked note is not saved to nosmero, just { noteId, buyerPubkey, txid, amount, confirmations, unlockedAt }
Some of the Security Features Behind This Stuff:
Encryption at rest:
- Tip jar encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before touching local-only storage
- Key derived via PBKDF2 with 600,000 iterations
- Your PIN to unlock tip jar is never stored.
Brute force protection:
- 5 failed PIN attempts triggers 15-minute lockout
- Lockout persists across page refreshes
- Auto-lock after 15 minutes idle
Network privacy:
- Tor users (.onion): if you access through the Tor address the tip jar will connect to random remote nodes over Tor - your IP isn’t always sent to any single node operator. This is best way to use nosmero.
- Clearnet users: Connects to Nosmero's local monero node, so only nosmero sees your IP as it connects to Nosmero's local node through nginx reverse proxy but with access logging disabled, meaning your IP address and RPC queries (balance checks, transaction broadcasts) are never written to disk or stored anywhere
What nosmero can’t do:
- See your seed phrase or private keys
- Custody funds
- Log RPC queries or IP addresses for wallet operations
But, of course, this is a hot wallet - it is a TIP JAR - so keep only small amounts for tips and paywalls, not your nest egg. No guarantees, beta, as-is, where is, caveat emptor, etc. etc.
I hope you find these useful, and let me know of any bugs you run into. Mobile and desktop should have access to both of these features.

Fixed! The issue was that port 443 was mapped in the Tor hidden service config, and when Tor Browser tried HTTPS, it got the SSL certificate for m.nosmero.com instead of the .onion address.
Tor hidden services don't need HTTPS because Tor already provides end-to-end encryption.

No app just yet. The server should detect use of a mobile browser and redirect to m.nosmero.com which has mobile-specific codebase. A couple of tabs are missing from mobile version that are available on full site, but those should be worked out by the end of this weekend. There was a time recently that mobile was having some odd behavior after a major UI fix, but it should be quite stable now.
My roadmap does includes making a PWA, but that is behind a couple of major features that I hope to get deployed this weekend.

I've been making quite a few changes to nosmero, but not announcing them. The desktop version is fully functional but the m.nosmero.com mobile site is still having issues. It has less features as I work through the problems.
After reading a very enlightening post by @npub1clk6vc9xhjp8q5cws262wuf2eh4zuvwupft03hy4ttqqnm7e0jrq3upup9 disclosing his nostr.ux.com project, I decided to try to implement some of the research he did. The basis of the recent UI change for nosmero was based on his research. I also agreed with the need to focus on content discovery and keeping users interested in using nostr as a daily resource, as something to replace the centralized social media go-to’s.
That was the impetus of the original Web of Trust page. It was a basic effort to give users a glance at other users that might be of interest. But I knew it was a stop gap measure to use as I continued to research the WoT options under development. My research lead to a great thread discussing relatr here: https://nosmero.com/thread/93e54c546a62bb897327341e5ea9d7c42a7da8efbcaa11573e793245b047a0b9 That thread inspired the implementation of relatr scores for nosmero. These are optionally displayed, check the Settings page to adjust as you wish.
Next, was adding the Suggested Follows and Popular Notes tabs. These, respectively, suggest high relatr score users that might interest you based on your follows and notes that are popular (based on interactions and good relatr scores) across the nostr network.

Just fixed the history issue, where when navigating around nosmero if you clicked the back arrow it would take you to the previous site that was loaded in your browser before navigating to nosmero. I had noticed this weeks before but forgot to add to the to-do list. If you spot issues/bugs, please let me know.

Mobile site is live. If you got to nosmero.com from a mobile browser it should load m.nosmero.com automatically which is optimized for phones. Still working on Monero Tip Activity to function, so it is not visible on mobile.
Otherwise, should be as functional as the desktop browser.

Updates:
-refreshed the UI of the site
-added a Web of Trust Feed which pulls notes from your extended network. It shows notes from people followed by people you follow. Hopefully it is a helpful way to find interesting content and new people to follow within your trust network. The feed randomly samples from your network each time you visit, so you always see fresh content.

Just squashed a few bugs and added a cache of Trending Monero Notes that will ~instantly load when an anonymous user first loads nosmero.com.
For logged in users, the Trending Monero Notes tab will, also, ~instantly load from cache. Users can than refresh the results manually for up-to-date notes.

Hi Monero Fans:
I implemented [finally] an automated verification for monero tips using transaction keys (tx_key). When a tip is sent, the system now:
1. Verifies the transaction via monero wallet RPC using the check_tx_key method to cryptographically confirm the amount, confirmations, and recipient address are on the blockchain.
2. Publishes a proof hash (kind 9736 event) containing a SHA-256 hash of the transaction ID, transaction key, and random salt. This allows a verified badge to be linked to the tip, but the tx id and tx key are then discarded and not recorded. The recipient can then, obviously, self-verify by looking in his wallet.
You will need to paste the tx and tx key from your wallet into the verification window for this to work. This, as usual, is optional.
You can still do a secret tip or disclose it to nostr without verifying using the tx id and tx key (the honor system option that is currently in effect).
I also added Tip Activity to the top navigation menu which shows all XMR tips that were either disclosed or verified on Nosmero, plus separate sections for the tips you sent and received.

Just added a tip tracking feature for notes.
After you tip a note with monero you are provided the option of making the tip public. If you make it public, the note will show the tip amount and your username. If you want to keep it private as before, just click "keep it private."
This does not use any of your keys or the recipient's keys. Again, I'm not interested in being trusted with any keys. Instead I made Kind 9736 which is the equivalent of Kind 9735 that is used to track bitcoin zaps, but without the cryptographic proof of payment of bitcoin. Yes, this means it is based on the old fashioned honor system, but it seems to be a fair trade off for honoring the monero ethos of radical privacy. Besides...do you really want to have cryptographic proof you fake tips out in the public :) ?
Anyways, I hope you like it, and know that I am experimenting on ways to verify tips.

NIP-17 wrapped DMs was added as an optional feature.
Default will be -04 DM, but in Settings one can select to use -17 DMs. The -17 feature uses a nosmero-based relay to manage the number of wrapped messages that get pulled and so to keep storage from being excessive they will auto-delete from relay after 30 days.

Also, it reads the "about"for potential XMR addresses, but storage of the address is with NIP-78.

Tackled two more things:
-finally turned on the Trending Monero Notes button at the top. It now pulls the most interacted notes regarding #monero or #XMR for the past 24 hours
-fixed the broken XMR queue option: instead of locking your wallet for ~20 minutes for each monero zap you want to send, you can queue them up and add them to single transaction to send all at once.
To test the queue function and the Trending option, I zapped the note authors who appeared in the trend results with a bit of XMR as a "thank you" for putting an XMR address in either your "about" section of the profile or using nosmero to save your address with a NIP-78 event. Make Monero Zaps a Thing!

Zapped! Check the note for the transaction, it will show "nosmero.com noteID XXXXX" where the XXXX is a portion of the note ID that was zapped.

Decided to do more bug fixes instead of my day job this morning, but also added a new feature:
Nosmero will now read a user's profile to see if he has an XMR address in the "about" section, if one is detected, the user's notes will automatically be able to be zapped with Monero!
Bug squashes:
-turned BTC lightning zaps back on when I accidentally deleted that function
-can now paste npub and nevents into note compose and they turn into links to profile page or embed the note like a repost
-other minor backend stuff involving accidental looping (whoops)

-a settings bug that was overwriting a user's profile banner and lightning address
-NIP-65 relay logic so that the correct read/write delineation was being made in Settings

Fixed the bug. The Settings page wasn't preserving the lightining address and was pushing the blank address to the user's NIP1 profile. Also, there was no option for a profile banner so it was alos deleting that. All fixed. Apologies, if you want to drop a monero address I'll zap you for your troubles

Yikes! What did it change so I can try to run down what it did. It uses NIP-01 kind 0 and I didn't see that issue using a profile created in Iris.
Also, did you revert back in a different client and get rid of your Monero address?

Thanks for the feedback, looks like the note's logic is pulling the NIP-5 address, instead of the lightning address on the profile page. I'll get that addressed, hopefully, today.
