I'm listening to the Dune audiobook. It's kinda odd. Some chapters have an ensemble cast of voice actors, while other chapters have just one voice actor doing the all voices.
Also, my gf is reading along, and in one chapter they skipped two pages for some reason. 🤷🏻

If the problematic origins and past connotations of a certain word have been forgotten by virtually everyone today who uses that word, it's not clear to me that we should we still necessarily censure the current use of that word? If the word today isn't used like it was in the past, hasn't the word in a sense been reformed? And is reminding people of its origins just undoing the evolution of that that word? #philosophy #language #ethics

It perplexes me that there are so many people who seem unperturbed by basic existential and metaphysical questions. It makes me feel like maybe it's my brain that's "faulty" in some sense: it's short circuiting when I can't find a satisfying answer to why anything should exist or how it is I'm conscious. Maybe my brain isn't delivering a feeling of intellectual satisfaction when it's supposed to? Do people who are interested in philosophy have malfunctioning brains in some sense? #philosophy

Can you evaluate a person contextually? Like, thinking this person is/was awful in this context, but in some other context(s) they were ok or even good? Or does their bad actions/beliefs in one context irredemably taint their actions/beliefs in other contexts?
E.g., the 16th century composer Carlo Gesualdo wrote some interesting music, but he also straight up murdered his wife and her lover. Can you still enjoy his music after knowing that? Is it wrong to still enjoy his music? #philosophy

Another thing I got back from my parents: this Nintendo branded wooden rolltop box thingy.
I assume it's for housing NES or SNES cartridges? I only ever used it for knickknacks.
It has slots carved into the sides. Don't know what they're for.
