I find myself struggling once more with another James Luceno book. It’s the third one I’ve read, and it’s pretty exhausting how he keeps connecting all the dots from the Expanded Universe while forgetting to tell the main story.

I like your review a lot. Succinct, straight to the point and which managed to synthesize the main points of the book in a clear and engaging way. I was considering reading Chasm City before Redemption Ark, but after this review it is impossible not to want to follow this plot of the Inhibitors.

Yep, Dan Sylveste is a total asshole, to say the least. Part of his personality trait is explained towards the end of the book though (but yeah, he’s an asshole).

Thank you very much for your impressions on this book. I liked Revelation Space, despite my criticism. It was quite a ride! I already bought Redemption Ark and I shall read it very very soon..

In getting ready to read the next installment. But I also found online that Chasm City is great as well.
I have a question: in your opinion, the second installment is better than the first?

I finally finished reading Revelation Space, a hard Science Fiction by Alastair Reynolds. I wrote my review here, I would appreciate it if you could comment:

I’m here reading Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds and it’s been a dizing journey. After 130 pages, the mysteries abound in a captivating way. Until then, I’m enjoying the experience a lot.

StoryGraph is really quite robust, even the free version. I was a premium subscriber in the past and it’s one of a few services the subscription really adds features and doesn’t “unlock” important things. Thank you very much for sharing!

If I’m not mistaken, Tor Books made their first announcement in 2012, but it was implemented to all their titles in 2018.

That’s quite interesting. I remember how big it was (at least for me) Tor Books announcement on DRM-free policy in 2018. I think I started buying more Tor Books’ titles since then and I really hoped (maybe I was being naive) it could spread like fire in the woods back then.

Does their policy of supporting DRM-free EPUB on their Kobo ereaders make Kobo a slightly better choice (or the lesser evil)?

@npub1fdr…lvhs Hi, I’m a big fan from Brasil! I’m reading Chokepoint Capitalism and I’m baffled by the severity of the problems we are facing regarding the Big Techs (and it seems they’ll become quite worse from this day on). I’ve just finished the chapter focused on the history of Amazon and I’d like to know your impressions on Rakuten Kobo ereaders business model, if you have any.

I started keeping track (the book I’m currently reading and the page I’m on) because I was reading Murakami’s 1Q84 in an Kindle in 2012 and, I don’t know why, it restarted to page 1. Since it’s a huge book and all the chapters have the same names, I completely lost my reading progress and never came back. I was so upset that someone introduced Goodreads to me then. Everything else I don’t care that much (sorting in shelves, reading challenges, etc).

I finished reading Shadow of the Torturer, by Gene Wolfe yesterday. It was a book that took me months to begin reading. At first it was a struggle, but I was largely rewarded. Definitely it’s one of the best books I read. I left Ada Palmer’s preface to read after finishing the book and it’s such a great analysis (without conveying any spoilers). Now I understand the importance of Gene Wolfe.
