yeah… I kinda how how to untangle all that mess at this point but that unfortunately requires rewriting half of the PHY driver.
I‘m switching jobs and have a garden leave coming up soon where I’ll hopefully have time and motivation to finally tackle that.

true, maybe a quick fix to avoid issues where the port accidentally negotiates the wrong mode if you e.g. try to revive a mac mini from a macbook

maybe they force that port to device mode during installation. can't think of a good reason why they'd do that though
