I have few ideas that I want to develop to help with a bitcoin rewards service I’m building. 1 improvement to btcnutserver btcpay plugin to be able to send ecash rewards, right now the plugin only works to receive ecash. Other project is to make a nostr community board, with feed, fundraising, marketplace, services and calendar. Single relay, or nip5 verified post priority. 🚀 Introducing Bitpoints.me – A Bitcoin-native rewards system born from a coffeeshop hobby project ☕⚡
It all started with a simple idea: give customers rewards at my local coffeeshop. But instead of airline miles or hotel points (aka the biggest shitcoins of all time), I wanted something better—something that teaches people about Bitcoin.
Everyone knows how to use points. But what they don’t realize is:
Points get devalued in fiat terms.
Then they get devalued again by the issuer.
And they’re locked into platforms with zero interoperability.
So I asked: what if coffeeshop points were actually sats?
💡 Enter Cashu – a perfect fit. Custodial? Sure. But so are all rewards systems. And for a coffeeshop, rugging users is bad business. So I forked cashu.me, rebranded it, and launched a quick PWA: points.trailscoffee.com.
Users see “points.” But behind the scenes, they’re 1:1 pegged to sats. The mint shows sats. The wallet shows points. Simple UX. No friction. Just like a gift card—no login, just a code.
🔧 Not a dev myself. I leaned heavily on nodeacademy.org and the amazing Vancouver-based Pacific Nodewest community. Their ideas, feedback, and support were invaluable.
But I wasn’t satisfied. I wanted:
Offer A 10% discount when paying with Points/sats. AND
A model where rewards gain value over time, flipping the traditional system. AND
A way for local kids to use their points—without needing a phone.
I explored Bolt Cards. Cool tech, but still phone-dependent. Tried Lightning Piggy on ESP32, but micropython was beyond my AI-vibe coding skills.
Then came the crazy idea 💥: merge Bitchat with Cashu.
Why? So kids could use their balance at the coffeeshop offline. Cashu tokens are bearer instruments. As long as the POS is online, they clear.
After some effort, I merged bitchat-android with cashu.me, and that’s how Bitpoints.me was born.

Depends what you need, with zeus ln you get a node on the phone, and you can use for a POS. For the bitcoin cafe probably an old laptop and using ubuntu you can install btcpay server, which comes with a node, and they have a fast sync setting that downloads 90% of the chain and all you need is a day or two. If you want to try btcpay, you can get an account free at my sever lnbucks.com , takes 15 minutes to start accepting payments, you can link your primal wallet with nwc so you get the payment directly to your wallet. I love the concept, I’m looking into something very similar to be used as rewards system for a coffee shop. Each customer that buys the nfc card gets sats for every purchase. How you got the nfc in a pin, I’d like to make one that can go in a keychain.

There is a tftc episode where marty and paolo explains it. Is doing peer to peer communication without a server in the middle. Keet.io is the app tether made to replace zoom using holepunch. Paolo thinks it can scale to many things, on the podcast with preston they talk AI at the end and the example is local small models that can communicate with a network of small local models on other devices to make a serverless AI

Yes it is insane how those companies charge for real aircraft boxes, broken money incentives makes them so large and inefficient that prevents them from being agile. I worked for Collins aerospace supporting the global 6000 business jet and was insane how much we were charging, even for software updates. Those systems labs are still required but I’m very excited with the development simulators early in the design, combined with AI able to understand SDK to make plugins and interface with engineering models on tools such as matlab. Thanks for writing this content, good to geek out on engineering simulation stuff!

Love your engineering background, is actually very close to what I currently do, technology has improved a lot and open platforms like X-Plane are making it much easier to build all kids of simulators with many software and hardware plugins and accessories. I think in the engineering design having a simulator you can bring your controller logic and test early in the development is super beneficial instead of waiting for the suppliers to bring components together at the system labs or iron bird rigs.

Great video, I’m an aircraft engineer, never worked at Boeing. Part of the 737 max crashes involves FAA delegation to Boeing to self approve parts of the aircraft, such as MCAS system. Both crashes were due to a single sensor failure (angle of attack). Aviation design guidelines clearly state no single failure can lead to a catastrophic event. That’s why airplanes have a ton of redundancies. The MCAS ipad training was to save money and not have to send pilots to the simulators. All those are red flags only Boeing can get away with.
