I am merely 62 years old, but during my youth, and way into my 20s, I had 20cm of snow, temperatures of -10C to -25C, and I still went to school (primary school nearby, so, walking; secondary school by bicycle, no money for a bus, we were poor).

Next time Trump, Vance and their cronies threathen to take Greenland, the EU nations need to combine their most special forces, invade Mar-a-Lago, obduct Trump, Melania, Vance, Rubio, and whoever "important" is present, and bring them to the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Lock them up, indict them, ready court sessions.

Yeah, it is.
Also, I can't visit the USA as long as Trump is dictator-wannabe there. And the UK seems to become a bit dangerous for Liz and me too. And Hungary seems to become problematic too.
Also, I am so focused on my comic book collection, I am hesitant to travel...

The war by Russia in Ukraine, and the enormous violence in Israel/Gaza, and elsewhere (Myanmar, Yemen, Congo, Sudan, Ethiopia/Eritrea, Somalia, etc) are not helpful. The sheer brutality and move to fascism by Trump and his government are stupifing. And the end of troubles like these is not getting closer.

Hi. I haven't posted for a while. The sale of our house in April, after trying to get it sold for 2 years, brought me in a weird state. I needed, and still need, to get our lives to some state of normalcy.

He told me (and at another event, I witnessed him telling it to somebody else) that it would make him memorable, and stand out in a crowd, and look different, and make people pay attention. One or several of those options. I guess it worked that way.

Zefram died. We were not friends, but we always greeted eachother friendly whenever we met, which was a dozen times or so. I sat several times with him for drinks and food. He came by my booth several times for swag and a little bit of smalltalk (that last bit was not one of his strongpoints).

I wanted to get it done on the 20th (in the hopes that many others would give the signal), but it did not let me, wanted a verification code, four times!
The code each time works a limited time, and their email with the code took more than that, so the code was worthless each time I tried to use it.
Last time, quiet moment in the night, mail arrived quicker, bam.
I am gone from Twitter.

Afterwards, on the express request of Abeltje, almost all went to a nice big bar for drinks (bubbles!) and snacks, and it became a bit late.
Liz and I and 3 other Perl friends were invited by a friend and his wonderful spouse to have dinner with them. It became really late, and Liz and I came home just before midnight.

Lots of friends of Abe were present. Family and friends. People from his time as a teacher, his work in music, from the companies he worked for (like XS4ALL), and many Perl people.
Of course, lots of pictures. One-third of the pictures seem to come from me (and @npub1ehl…azl8, and also from a few of you that I collected over the years from your Flickr and other collections). Pictures of a young Abe, and Abe as a teacher (math, chemistry, yep, he used to be a teacher), his bands, his music, and so on.

Yesterday was the memorial service. Not religious. Closed casket, lots of flowers. Music (pop, rock, folk, instrumental).
He was drummer in a band with his older brother and a friend, and they played a track Abeltje liked very much.
His older brother really looks like Abe, a bit smaller, and magnificent. It was lovely, emotional, lots of good speeches by family and friends.

Abe Timmerman (aka Abeltje) died yesterday, from cancer, after a long time fighting the end. He is famous in the Perl community for testing Perl and setting up the Perl smoking infrastructure.
He was always friendly, helpful, with lots of humour, respectful. He always had interesting things to say and show. And a lovely smile and big laughter. I always loved being near him at open source events.
Dear Abeltje, thanks for being a friend.
