i asked claude to make me an install script instead. easy-peasy. after i ran that and got everything set-up and downloaded the csv export data, it was tempting to ask claude to pretend to be my accountant and figure everything else out, too...

zaps are all fun and games, but figuring out the capital gains on a bucket of lightning transactions is no fun. and that's after you even get the data. i just went through a mini-adventure hunting down a pre-release beta apk of the primal android app and downloading and installing the android sdk emulator just to access primal's new transaction export feature.
(last year's process was even more wild: with no export feature in the app, i automated my phone with adb, grabbing screenshots of each transaction, and sending them to openai to extract the data. a fun exercise, but wow.)
this was all for maybe a total of $1 USD worth of sats.
the real reason the lightning network and bitcoin isn't more mainstream for day-to-day transactions? that's it, right there. you don't have to jump through these hoops with cash or cards for small every day transactions.
why bother? good question!
i wanted to get experience using the lightning network "for real" because i'm curious about integrating lightning network payments into the stuff my start-up does.
(there's only so many blogs or videos or reddit posts one can read to understand something. sometimes you just have to try it to found out.)
on paper, it would be a good fit: a digital currency payment for a minute of compute for test automation of web sites on browsers in the cloud. a perfect match, except for the accounting.
i still might do it, but not until i have a better system in place and a "make the accounting headache go away"-first lightning app i can recommend to users.
dealing with all the taxes is the primary reason to use a payroll provider for your business vs figuring it out yourself. the first lightning wallet to treat taxes as a first-class design problem wins this space. (payroll taxes are probably way more complicated that zap accounting, but i wouldn't know - my provider does it for me.)
zapping is fun, though.

the use case i'm optimizing for is "vibe coding" or "agentic engineering" dev loops where an llm is the one primarily writing and running tests. (in vibium's case, the specific kind of tests are end-to-end checks of the user interface in a web browser.)
we started with claude support, but the exposed interface is "just" an mcp server. it should just work with other tools. i haven't tested with them, though. however, others have, and are posting to linkedin. search for "vibium". we'll see if we can get them posting over here, too!
a coding agent could also ignore the mcp server and use vibium like any other browser automation tool, using the javascript/typescript or python client lib and api. in that case, you'd ask the ai to "write a vibium script to test x, y, and z." it could then write, save, and run that script like any other code.
your choice whether to use mcp or the language-specific libs.
ideally, though, the dream use case is you ask your ai friend, "hey, does my site still work? can people still buy stuff from my web store?" and it answers with authority by using vibium to check. (and you never have to worry about the low-level details of how it did it.)

mostly agree. the websockets + signed-json-events are some killer primatives for stufff on my roadmap. it would be extremely nice to keep *this* notes interface above critical mass, though.

tools used:
- claude code (opus 4 + sonnet 4) - for the heavy lifting
- gemini (2.5 pro and 2.5 flash) - for extra code review: "hey gemini... pretend you're a senior google engineer and a code reviewer..."
- chatgpt 4o - for small tasks like "how do i deploy this to github pages?!"
- termux + vim - most of the work was done on my phone! switched to mac at the end for extra testing and doc gen.
- hardware: google pixel 5a and 2018 apple intel-mbp (the one wittth the craapppy keyboardd)
why burrito?:
i *love* experimenting and testing code out in repls ("read–eval–print loop"). burrito lets me embed a full js repl into any compiled nim app so that i can try things out interactively.
most compiled languages (like nim) struggle with repls; they're usually slow or incomplete. by embedding a full js interpreter (quickjs), i get the best of both worlds: a super-slick, fast app written in nim *and* a fast, non-lame interactive environment to quickly test things out.
with burrito, i can:
- call js from nim
- call nim from js
- run interactively or "just do it" all in one go.
honestly i don't know how (or if) i would've done this project without all my new robot friends.

that is (part of the) dream.
but also: build the world largest testing network. anything, anywhere, anytime. nbd. :)
.... and yeah, support ai prompts and not require expert selenium knowledge. (it's gets a little tricky in distributed network wondering where the inference/translation from prompt into code happens... execution nodes could be running local llms... but hardware requirements for good local llm gets expensive)
v1 probably has most utility for simple, quick uptime health-checks using headless browsers just pinging a url, but i don't plan to stop there.

the normie equivalent of the dev tool itself is my previous start-up: sauce labs
but from a distibuted computing point of view, the closest old world equivalent might be boinc/seti-at-home... but those were volunteer efforts. I think actually paying people is an unlock. and *not* getting distracted rolling my own token (e.g. gridcoin).
nostr+lightning (via cash app or primal on-ramps to get normies to convert a few bucks to sats) is perfect for bootstrapping the network. especially if it's meant to be global on day 1. (bitcoin as global money ftw.)

answer: no (source: primal support)
no big deal, though. life on the edge, baby! it was actually kinda fun rigging up a python script to drive the app over adb, take screenshots, ask my favorite chatbot what it sees, and save the transaction data to a json file for later processing into a spreadsheet. downside: my favorite chatbot now knows everyone i sent sats to.

The very short-term goal is to make a real world version of the demo running at https://www.pinthing.com/
It's why the 3D-printed/electronic prototype is 3x5 pixels – just enough detail to display any integer 0 to 9. Stack a few more next to each other and, voilà: an exquisitely over-engineered clock.

Yes, and no. Validated there's demand the particular idea (hosted mobile app and web testing). Plenty of SaaS offerings in this space (Sauce Labs, BrowserStack, AWS Device Farm). And plenty of people do self-hosted (Selenium Grid). I'm still trying to gauge demand for making a decentralized version, but at the point where I need to "JFDI" a minimal MVP and see what happens. I've talked with some big tech companies that already built out their own version of "in the wild" beta testing by having some number of users volunteer to beta test for free. Million sat question is whether smaller companies not at that big scale would be interested in a paid and more heavily automated version of the idea. (Basically a decentralized, automated TestFlight beta test run... powered by Nostr and paid in sats.)

I'm hoping to grow Nostr by porting B2B SaaS apps to the Nostr protocol. Having zaps and Lightning already integrated is a killer app for new projects. But, yeah, most normies don't know it exists. I think the solution is more marketing to JS, Python, and Go web devs with sample apps for building on Nostr Protocol.

Made homemade guacamole for the first time today. (It's basically just a fancy word for "mashed avocado".) It's as big of an accomplishment as making toast or boiling water. Still, I'm adding it to the list of "things I know how to make now". If avocados turn out to be actually bad for you, I'm going to be so mad. Can someone with more clout than me in the #nostr and #bitcoin world let @npub15dq…lm5m and his team know that the main MicroStrategy site is unavailable and showing an "Access Denied" error on some browsers? (Chrome 126.0.6478.110 on Android 14 with cookies deleted. Firefox on Android seems fine.) #testr
