Yes, it’s always good to take a step back and look at how far we’ve come. We’ve definitely built a lot already. It’ll be interesting to see which upcoming tweaks help accelerate the transition from infrastructure to broader adoption. Bots blurring the line between real human interactions and artificial ones is a problem in both worlds.

2026-10-11 03:26:32 UTC

- reply

There's a lot of truth in that. Better playback and client UX are definitely part of the puzzle, but I think the bigger challenge goes beyond both clients and protocols. It's about rethinking how we listen to and support music, and making the new way more appealing for everyone 🎸

2026-10-11 02:59:25 UTC

- reply

I hope and believe so too. We still have some things to figure out, and I think the biggest challenges aren't so much technical as they are about figuring out what kind of approach will resonate with the world.
Three years of sticking with it deserves respect. We need more people like you who keep pushing forward, even when it's a grind 🎸

2026-10-11 01:42:23 UTC

- reply

Definitely a lot of progress in several areas 🙂
The music player apps have improved significantly over the past year, with better user experiences and much faster response times in some cases. The recent introduction of shared public comments and boosts across apps is another big step forward.
I can’t wait to see which app will be the first to figure out how to preload the next track and offer gapless playback, just like listeners are used to on legacy platforms. That would be a huge improvement, especially for live albums and other releases where tracks are meant to flow seamlessly into one another.
Nostr clients have also gotten much better at displaying link previews for shared music, making it more inviting to discover and check out what people are posting. Small improvements like these can make a real difference in the overall experience.
One of the bigger challenges, I think, is figuring out how to make value-for-value (V4V) really take off while making the experience more passive for artists, similar to how streaming royalties work in the legacy world. If we can get that right, I believe we’ll see more artists and other creatives joining the ecosystem and, more importantly, sticking around for the long run. And with more artists comes the potential for more fans to follow.
But that brings us to another important challenge: how do we get those fans to embrace the idea of Lightning Zaps and directly supporting the artists they listen to?
If listeners migrate from legacy platforms without adopting new ways to support the music they enjoy, artists could end up losing their existing streaming revenue without gaining a sustainable alternative. They might become more sovereign, but also end up even worse off financially. That’s obviously not the outcome we want.
And this is where things get interesting, because these aren't just technical challenges. They're also about habits, expectations, incentives, and how we think about the relationship between artists and listeners.
There’s still a lot to figure out, but the progress so far is encouraging. If we can keep improving the listening experience while finding sustainable ways to support the people creating the music (and the apps), I think we have a real opportunity to build something much better.
The goal isn't just to move music to a decentralized ecosystem. It's to build one where artists can thrive, listeners can discover and enjoy great music, and everyone has a reason to stay 🎸

2026-10-11 00:08:07 UTC

One year on Nostr, and I’m still hoping to see music gain more momentum in the decentralized world 🎸

2026-10-08 00:03:51 UTC

This is great on so many levels, for both music and podcasts.
Public boosts and comments that are displayed across apps.
🎸 Boosters get the spotlight they deserve, unless they choose to keep them private.
🎸 Popular tracks, releases, and podcasts are easier to discover because appreciation is no longer spread thin across multiple apps. That gives it much greater impact.
🎸 New apps can now compete more easily with established ones. Previously, the app with the most social proof was more likely to get promoted and linked to. That meant a newer app could be better, but still struggle to get the attention it deserved.
With shared interactions across apps, the playing field becomes much more level. This will hopefully encourage even more developers to bring new apps to the ecosystem.
Great work @nprofile…v2r3 & @nprofile…hpvc

PS. I see BoostMeBitch have a few extra tricks up its sleeve since it manages to pull from Fountain as well (which is a pretty big deal).

Interesting.
I can see how some players may prefer chronological sorting of actual albums according to <lastBuildDate> instead of <pubDate> (even though I personally think <pubDate> makes most sense).
But how is it decided 'when' a track is added? The individual tracks (<item>) on an album are usually added on the same date (<pubDate>), it would be tempting to believe that <podcast:episode> was used as intended to get the correct track order.

Are you sure about that? I will make a more proper comparison when I get to the studio, but I'm pretty sure something is going on :) (not talking about file compression, just some kind of real-time audio compression)

They seem to have a bunch of problems after their latest update unfortunately. My latest release isn't even registered on Fountain (but everywhere else). Also, several releases have the wrong track order, which is pretty annoying. I've reached out to them a couple of times (also on their Nostr page) without getting any response. I can only assume they are aware of the problem, but don't know how to fix it. For now, I just link to other apps instead. Not only does Stablekraft ROCK 🎸🎸🎸, it also gets the track order right every time. Surprisingly, that's still a challenge for some Podcasting 2.0 apps.
When I release music with more than one track, the sequence matters. Whether it's just two tracks like this release or a full album with 8–10 tracks, the order is an important part of the listening experience.

Same for me unfortunately. Some of my releases (with more than one track) now have random track order instead of the intended one (which is specified in the album feed). Everything was fine until the latest update. Both the web- and phone app seem to be affected.
I've noticed that I'm not alone with this problem.
This is just one example:
https://fountain.fm/album/55sNHI1tuY6XNjZYDlaz
The correct track list should be:
1) Resonance
2) Tell Me All Your Secrets
3) Whispering Stars
4) Silent Prayer
5) The Lost Serenade
6) Where Do All The Broken Pieces Go
I hope this helps.

Yes, I noticed the track-ordering-fix and that's why it felt like the perfect time to put a spotlight on your cool creation. I can't really comment on the community at large. I've been around long enough to know a fair number of people here, but not enough to speak for everyone.
But the ROI argument makes a lot of sense to me. It's hard to onboard artists with decent followings if the economics don't make sense for them.
I'm still here despite that because I believe in what we're building. But the reality is that I make more from Spotify in a single day than I make from a month in the Valueverse.
Spotify deserves much of the criticism it gets, and I'd love to see the Valueverse become the go-to place for independent artists. Right now, though, at least from where I stand, the gap isn't closing. It's moving in the other direction.
If we want more artists to show up, we probably need to spend less time explaining why they should be here and more time making it financially obvious 🎸🎸🎸

It was pretty cool to see the comment cross-posted on the same track in Fountain, including the StableKraft link as well. This only happened with tracks that had a Fountain wallet in the album feed, so I'm guessing that had something to do with it, but I'm not sure. Maybe some other sorcery was at play 🧙‍♂️🪄🌟
That said, it could be a really interesting feature to see across all major apps. Comments are great promotion for artists, and having them follow album feeds in some way could increase creators' willingness to promote smaller apps as well.
I suspect many artists and podcasters are more likely to promote the app where comments, reactions, and zaps are visible if they're choosing between two apps of similar quality. If those interactions are visible everywhere, though, they might be more willing to direct people to the app with the better features, even if it's less well known. I could be wrong.
Great idea to have a toggle that lets people choose whether a comment is reposted to their profile.

Good thinking. Sometimes things are just meant to be as they turned out. I'm applying that mindset more and more in my own productions/performances. Considering that I have returned to this track several times, clearly implies that it has something special and unique attached to it. Cool stuff.

...actually, I'm starting to wonder if it is the Fountain wallet in the feed that does the auto-posting to my page? (is that even possible?) Pretty sure I commented on more tracks, but they don't show. Only the two the had a Fountain wallet in the album feeds.

Rizful.
A bonus feature I noticed with this particular track, since Matt used Fountain's wallet in the feed for this one, they also published the comment, which included a StableKraft link. Nice.
I had no idea that the comments in the zaps were automatically published to my Nostr page. Maybe an idea to mention it on the zap popup. I'm fine with it and happy to promote, but others might see it differently. However, it would be pretty cool if the comments were published to StableKraft (I have additional inputs about that in the upcoming PM).

I’ve checked out the app a bit more, and I must say I’m impressed with your work, especially how lightweight it is and how fast it responds. The search function totally rocks. Also, as I’ve mentioned before, I really like the design and the way you’ve integrated artwork into the backgrounds. If you want, I can share a few more ideas for improvements in a PM. Right now, you’re already on your way to becoming the number one app.

Cool. 🎸 I'm not completely sure, the gapless might work now. But since everything loads extremely slow I can't tell for sure. It took me a couple of minutes to navigate to my artist page from the front page (tried on both laptop and studio PC). I will do a more thorough test when it's up and running as intended. Great that you're having a look at the search function too. It doesn't work at all for me.
Another question, do you apply any kind of processing to the audio before it reaches me, or is it my original file with zero additional changes to it? Maybe it's just my imagination, but it feels like the same release on Fountain sounds a little bit more "open". I'm not sure. Need to have a closer listen.
I'm just asking because I realized that the StableKraft app seems to do some severe (sound) compression of the sound, so apparently this is something to be aware of.
Sunami is nothing like that, and maybe just my imagination 🙂

No AI in this one.
Yes, subscription software deals suck. They'd already been doing that for a while, and I wasn't pleased about it. But the final dealbreaker for me was when they revealed what they were really about and didn't allow graphic artists to use their products if they happened to live in the "wrong" country, because their government didn't agree with some other government.
That's when the "own nothing and be happy" agenda pulls off its mask and shows its ugly face.
I ended my subscription and never looked back. I miss nothing from Adobe.

Just like with the music, no rules and different every time.
The graphics for this post is pretty old-school: camera work and photo (actually video) editing. These days, I do most of the text editing and logo stuff in Affinity Photo & Designer.
I abandoned all Adobe products when shit hit the fan in 2020/21.

YakiHonne just nuked 💥 my entire follow list.*
So I've now realized that I always need to keep a backup.
Which leads me to the question: what's the best way to do that?
Is there a smooth way to back up my follow list and easily restore it when this happens again?
I'm choosing to see the whole thing as an involuntary housecleaning. 🙂 I've manually re-added several of you from the top of my head, but not nearly everyone. The rest will sort itself out over time.

I’m curious what people here think about uploading other people’s music to Nostr, and even accepting zaps for it.
I just stumbled across a huge catalog that includes not only albums from artists I personally know, but also Metallica, Lady Gaga, Muse, Iron Maiden, and plenty more. According to @nprofile…va2w and @nprofile…m0xe, all of it was uploaded by @nprofile…xp2j (I don't know if that is true, or if your account has been compromised).
Is this something people actually support or appreciate?
Looking forward to hear your thoughts.
I can’t help but feel that many artists would see Nostr very differently once they discover this kind of thing happening here.

Top-of-the-list improvements for most apps right now are simply getting already existing features to work as frictionlessly and lightweight as possible.
For Sunami, that would be page load, search, and music playback.
Another huge improvement would be establishing a tight relationship with Nostria (the only other app I know of offering similar functionality) and agreeing on which standards need to be fulfilled for publishing tracks and albums. At the moment, there’s still some inconsistency.
I don’t know which app is most accurate, but it’s my impression that uploads from Nostria don’t function equally well in Sunami, and vice versa. For example, my first Sunami uploads didn’t show which album they belonged to on Nostria (in track view). Another example is that albums uploaded through Nostria show no artist name in Sunami. Also, tracks uploaded in Nostria don't show in the Tracks tab in Sunami (only in the Releases tab).
I’m sure there are other small details that could use some consistency as well, but I can’t remember them off the top of my head.
Since you and @nprofile…0ds9 of @nprofile…r4un are the pioneers in this area, whatever standards you agree on will more or less become the foundation future apps follow.
One really cool feature I’d love to see across all music apps is gapless playback, like Spotify has. When I make an album or EP, the pauses between songs aren’t intended to be random. Some tracks are designed to transition seamlessly into the next without the listener noticing. The same applies to live albums.
Neither native Nostr music apps nor RSS-based music apps (such as Fountain) handle this particularly well right now.
I can definitely see the challenge, since the files are scattered across different servers and relays. It would require preloading the upcoming track in the background while the current one is still playing.
The app that figures out how to solve this properly will probably become my go-to app 🙂 🎸
PS. I would suggest not making a one-click download feature. Some artists sell their audio files and it would probably not feel great for them.

Totally agree that it would be great to see more artists here. I think the most convincing argument we have right now is success stories. I still hope the v4v model proves itself to be more beneficial than the paywalled legacy solutions. The closer we get to that reality, the easier it will become to onboard outsiders.
I have a hunch that long-term artistic integrity is not as convincing to most people as immediate personal gain (except for a few weirdos such as myself). And realistically, we probably won't reach many established acts anytime soon, since most of them don't even control their own material due to contractual obligations that prevent them from testing the waters in the valueverse.
Maybe it would make sense to start collecting and sharing success stories? Those could also point us toward which artists would be most interested in joining this space 🎸
