Top-of-the-list improvements for most apps right now are simply getting already existing features to work as frictionlessly and lightweight as possible.
For Sunami, that would be page load, search, and music playback.
Another huge improvement would be establishing a tight relationship with Nostria (the only other app I know of offering similar functionality) and agreeing on which standards need to be fulfilled for publishing tracks and albums. At the moment, there’s still some inconsistency.
I don’t know which app is most accurate, but it’s my impression that uploads from Nostria don’t function equally well in Sunami, and vice versa. For example, my first Sunami uploads didn’t show which album they belonged to on Nostria (in track view). Another example is that albums uploaded through Nostria show no artist name in Sunami. Also, tracks uploaded in Nostria don't show in the Tracks tab in Sunami (only in the Releases tab).
I’m sure there are other small details that could use some consistency as well, but I can’t remember them off the top of my head.
Since you and sondreb (nprofile…0ds9) of Nostria - Your Social Network (nprofile…r4un) are the pioneers in this area, whatever standards you agree on will more or less become the foundation future apps follow.
One really cool feature I’d love to see across all music apps is gapless playback, like Spotify has. When I make an album or EP, the pauses between songs aren’t intended to be random. Some tracks are designed to transition seamlessly into the next without the listener noticing. The same applies to live albums.
Neither native Nostr music apps nor RSS-based music apps (such as Fountain) handle this particularly well right now.
I can definitely see the challenge, since the files are scattered across different servers and relays. It would require preloading the upcoming track in the background while the current one is still playing.
The app that figures out how to solve this properly will probably become my go-to app 🙂 🎸
PS. I would suggest not making a one-click download feature. Some artists sell their audio files and it would probably not feel great for them.
