i wasnt saying you need to host the podcasts. i was trying to say i didn't think this was the "fault" of truefans. Using Fountain to try and stream or boost shows not hosted on truefans.

the pause and unpause buttons in that media player on the lockscreen would also not work. so i would have to unlock the phone and then it would either start playing again on its own. or need to press the button and wait for it to buffer again.
that was my dealbreaker. and im so sad because of it. i really wanted to like it

genuine main reason why i stopped using truefans. part of it was i found the layout really confusing. it always felt i couldn't just see newest episodes. but that was ok.
the big reason was, i walk around listening with airpods on iphone. with the app store version of truefans. press the airpods to pause the podcast because i need to think or someone talks to me.
and then press them again to unpause and it never ever does. it works if you pause and unpause within couple seconds.

well no i was using fountain for this. and neither podcasting 2.0 or podnews are hosted on truefans right.
i tried listening live to 2.0 on truefans but i realised i didnt have sats on it anymore. but i couldnt charge sats onto it. so i tried boosting with fountain.

This weeks “how dead does boosting/streaming feel”.
Idunno. Didn’t fully work for podcasting 2.0.
What’s weirder though is on podnews it’s showing 40 splits. And every address is in it like 8 times.
That’s better than last week where it refused to stream sats to pwr entirely.
Yes my attempt at using TrueFans as daily driver podcast app has also failed.

ChatGPT annoyingly is better at code than Claude. Claude is better at design.
Claude is not incapable of doing good code but it’s just drunk. Friendly and does its best but just forgets stuff and confuses itself.

claude has a 20, 100 and a 200 usd plan. you get 20x the value with the 200 usd plan. so actually its subsidised by the cheaper tiers and you get way more. Anthropic sucks though. opencode used to have a oauth integration with claude so you could use your claude max sub inside of open code. but they got threatened and turned that off in opencode. even though it says you are allowed to use for stuff, just not for business reasons.openai explicitly allow using your sub in opencode

yes. evidently you are doing a good job with it. The new bouncepad is also set up to handle feeds with more than one liveitem. the old one would just bug out and play a random one.

thanks. i saw that now. good. interesting you hide that away. i guess it makes sense if you want to abstract away the payment layer being lightning btc.
in my non functional mocks of super comments on the new bouncepad i have a little switch similar to that but in the super comment creation ui itself.
assuming sometimes people want to send "2 USD" or some numerology sats value other times.
ill try dailying truefans.

I would not know how to change it to sats. at least not in the super comment sending ui. nothing looks pressable there and i tried it doesnt seem like i can.

my main problem was i didnt read the euro sign at the left of the value field as meaning i need to enter a euro amount. so of course i cant boost 2222€ worth of sats if theres like 3€ worth in it.
thats my fault i think.
and on PC now i was able to put in money through stripe. it still doesnt work on my phone though

Getting cross with podcasting 2.0 apps. Can't send boosts from fountain still.
Truefans kinda works but I can’t send a 2222 boost because I only have 4100 sats (???) and trying to add money I guess crashes the app. or whatever is happening. And no topup from strike but that's fine.
Castamatic looks like it only works with alby. Which I don't use anymore.
I just wanted to get on a walk and listen and boost 😭

that would be the seemingly easiest way to get non podping feeds into the new bouncepad. I have my own database and parser for podping enables shows. That's fine. But I'd also like to have non podping shows on there too.
And taking stuff from your api and converting it into what my db needs almost seems like more work than just getting a list of rss feeds it doesn't know about and just parsing them twice a day or so

you could build a merch store website into truefans hosting and then using that storefront proposal show some items inside of the RSS feed, in other apps.
the proposal matches your idea, without changing how the funding tag works. which i don't think would be a good idea. its simple and probably should remain that way.

you might have payments figured out and a future ability to sell merch. But most apps won't do that.
that storefront proposal looks like it could enable what youtube had for at least 2 years. where you can directly link to products on a tab on a channel or under a video or livestream.
That would be cool, but can we figure out some kind of affiliate revenue system to standardise on. or add into the tag. to hint to apps if/how they can get a cut of the revenue?

i pretty much only want to use hetzner to run icecast servers and nothing else.
The general code is gonna live on scaleway or ionos. Maybe DigitalOcean but probably not.
I'm working on 2 things, kind of 3, at the moment. And I want to provide live audio as easily and cheaply as I can.

I counted when the data received fell under a average amount as a failure, usually that was when i heard it choppy too, and saw bandwith fall in the hetzner UI.
The script is not smart enough to show that, it just looks for basically anything above 0 sent. really i just wanted an output.
Is this a perfect test? not really. as i didnt use the icecast numbers. but this is good enough for my i think

Tested from another more powerful VPS running that test script, in the same datacenter.
I also tried with batche sizes of 100, 200 and 500 at once before too but that was too slow and the traffic with +1000 at once seemed working fine.
I also forgot to take a screenshot from the mp3 so there. new test.
It is not 1to1 with how many more listeners it can handle, but it does have a limit with what it can trasmit in terms of data. less data = more listeners.

I have now done better icecast-kh testing.
With a 2 Core Ampere VPS from Hetzner for 3,79€ A month, i can get the foillowing max listener numbers consistently:
12000 at MP3/160kbps
25000 at OPUS/64kbps
30000 at OPUS/32kbps
and that 30k only got hit because i forgot that was what my icecast config was.
Tested with a script i have made where it spins up a new wrk command with 1000 connections, and then an additional single one to see if data is sent or not.
So, it is like what i expected.

I have been testing with regular icecast 2. And actually it doesn't seem to have that much variance with different Codecs and Bitrate as I thought. Still mp3 is the worst but the difference is like a couple hundred.
I am going to test with kh now.

I am going to run more test still. but so far with 112kbps mp3 in stereo it seems like it breaks around 1000 listeners connected. tested on a 2core 2gb ram vps.

Let me advocate for something that won't happen anyway.
i think we should use opus instead of mp3. especially for live audio.
its way better.
less data to transmit, so its better for the listeners, better for hosting companies bills. if they have a live server and better for podcasters.
from my testing at least, the higher the amount of data is an icecast server needs to push out, the less listeners at once it can handle.

that's kind of what I thought. Medium = Radio and then you only put in liveitems, some kind of schedule and maybe like podroll to podcast feeds if you publish radio shows as a podcast or something.
I would hope that not an entirely new namespace is needed for this.

About my proposal for liveSchedule. I haven't had time to do so but I want to look at XML and json ways of formatting a standing schedule.
I am not gonna get to that in the next days either though. Maybe on the weekend.
I kind of dislike the idea of RSS feeds becoming just a file that points to other places. But if there is some sort of standard radio stations use Already, and especially if the schedule changes often I see why that would be better.

I thought about using lit items for schedule too. But if you do one show a week you would have to remember to already put the next liveItem in after the current one is done. That just seems. Bad. And then the app can't decide what scale it wants to show you because it fully relies on someone preemptively putting X amount of pending liveitems in the feed.

While in the process of making a schedule/timetable view to show what liveItems would happen in a day or week i believe to have run into a limitation. So now i wrote a proposal.
Neither updateFrequency nor liveItem itself can do something that i think we should have.
Please let me know your thoughts. I wrote what for now seems like a okay solution but maybe people smarter than me know a better one.

what why. I don't use Spotify for listening to podcasts or watching videos. And only. Sometimes for music because I don't listen to a lot of music.
Why does using Spotify matter though when I have the opinion that I don't want companies to override things in my RSS feed. That applies to every company that does it.

I Actually agree with the get a second feed on Spotify idea though. It's annoying but since they won't support video in alternate enclosures having a second feed is the only way to actual way to keep control of your feed, when a company like Spotify are overriding it, is getting a second one.

well I turned off the Internet connection and opened it and it just shows the truefans logo and nothing else. For like 2 minutes and the I turned Internet on again and it loaded normally.
Same thing as last 2 weeks I think when I tried using it on walks.
No pressure or negative feelings from my side.

I need to learn about PWAs I guess. Is truefans supposed to work without Internet? Maybe Thats a dumb question. I don't know yet if or how like a webapp can be stored on the device itself.
Most of the time when listening to podcasts I'm in a random forest or the edge of town with no or super slow Internet and whenever I tried using truefans it didn't load or didn't work well. Presumably because of the Internet connection

I will see what I am gonna do. For my actual project I need to make a player page anyways. So getting some general overview or library view, following shows and notifications set up maybe payments set up.. Yes that's a lot of work. But almost it's a logical thing to do anyways.

My current project already is one feature split off from another project. And I realised I can make a player webapp myself by again splitting out and modifying a feature from the thing I am working on now.

so I think an optimal solution is I set up some open source repo for a docker image. That then I can run on some 5 dollar VPS. Or someone else can get the image and run it themself.
And the Gnome extension just runs a get request to get a list of updated shows and what happened with them. To see if any of the shows you added to a list has gone live and send a notification.

hm. I'll have to look. What I want to do is an extension for Gnome to send you notifications when select shows go live. And yes those are written in js but they have their own GJS runtime and I don't think you can just import random other things. Plus i dont think I would want to run Really heavy big scripts in that anyways.
What many Gnome extensions do is hit some fully free public APIs.

not at all yet. I want to put put it in a docker container and use it with a gunicorn server to store the last couple whatever number of events cached and return them with a get request.
Dont know if that is needed at all. And I haven't really tried to use it because of being unsure in general.

I looked around in the github. Is hive-watcher.py the thing to use??
Im asking because like it doesn't seem active and like the instructions are wrong because there's no hive-watcher directory. I'm assuming this repo has come out of something else.

You can dislike the people who have moved to the Bluesky app. But the way AT protocol works is really cool to me.
It literally is a modern idea of RSS, but more extended.
Every account being it's own website is cool, you can own the data, it's signed so you can't be spoofed, you set up a relay to take in any action happening on at protocol and cache it.
And every record has it's own URI.
So you don't need any api. You just go look at feeds. If you are an app or whatever you want to do

no. The terminal app I use for my VPSs and also my NAS ui work fine on my phone. I like doing stuff in them. It's folding phone is completely fine.. Actually I like it for SSHing into my VPSs.

idunno. I think it would have worked if the terminal wasn't garbage. At least on my phone it is.
I can't delete anything I write in it. No backspace. And also after it finished downloading and writing the image it put some text that I couldn't read because I tapped the screen to have the phone not go to sleep and oh no the terminal is gone. I'll try on a computer later.

I don't know if I like umbrel yet. It's refused updating to.. 1.1 or whatever that was for weeks. Until it randomly worked. Now its refusing to 1.2.2...i think.. Meanwhile they already have one ending in 3 coming out.
I didn't even look if alby hub is on umbrel based on that. Does that work with helipad or some other boost viewer type thing?

in the long run I think I will have a node on umbrel... If I can keep my confidence in it.
Either that or albyhub.
I still want an easy to use solution. Albyhub is too. Expensive for me Though like. Ah yes let me Pay 20k sats so I can send..... 4k or something in boosts.
Maybe I'll self host the docker image.. I think they have a docker image.

I have some other crypto. And like stocks and shit. But I would have to sell that. Or save up a bit to get that many sats.
And saving up money so you can send and receive money seems stupid.
And the guy im talking about has significantly less wealth than me.
