The Indonesian discourse over dogs is really disgusting and despicable. They’re willing to haramize an entire species just because the saliva is haram. They’re willing to ignore hadiths and surahs saying dogs are friends and guardians, and tales about heavenly rewards for feeding starving dogs, all just because they can’t be fucked to use water and soap.
The Quran actually advised Muslims to consume meat from an animal caught by dogs because it’s meant for consumption. And yet people have gone out of their way to pretend the verse didn’t mention dogs when it specifically does.

Jakarta’s MRT, despite its shortcomings, does seem world class and very well maintained, but it currently is only a single line and only about six years old. New lines are planned and being worked on but probably won’t see a proper network for several more decades with the next couple of lines taking 5-10 years to complete. Curious to see what the city will look like in 2050. I’d be really old by then, though, if I’m still around to begin with.

The Indonesian government has apparently decided the easiest way to solve inequality is to rewrite the dictionary. Why actually redistribute wealth when you can just redefine it?
In its new social stratification scheme, anyone spending more than US$185 a month, the cost of a pair of sneakers, five weeks of gas for your car, or a month’s groceries for a family of four, is now “super rich.”
$185? That’s less than the savings you get from a Jet2 holiday for a family of four. But sure, call it affluence. The “middle class”? That’s anyone burning between $50 and $93 a month, a budget that barely covers rice, transport, and the occasional Indomie binge if you’re feeling reckless.
This isn’t redefining class, it’s institutional gaslighting. By declaring $185 the new gold standard, the government pretends to level the playing field while quietly siphoning more out of the pockets of the people stuck on it.
By 2027, companies are required to shave off 2.5% of every employee’s salary, with another 0.5% tossed in from the employer, to fund Tapera, a mandatory housing contribution. Problem is, that “savings” won’t get most workers anywhere near a house, at best, it’s money for fixing a leaking kitchen.
Meanwhile, the truly wealthy, including legislators who just gifted themselves a pay raise to Rp100 million a month (about $6,170) not counting extra allowances that can easily double their take-home pay, simply vanish from the equation. No mention of their actual spending power, just a convenient sleight of hand that keeps the real elite invisible.
Ordinary workers, on the other hand, are pushed into a corner: pay the new levies, swallow the erosion of rights, and keep quiet because statistically, congratulations, you’re “middle class” now. And don’t expect much because that new status means you’re conveniently ineligible for most subsidies or assistance programs.
If this is what counts as progress, they can shove today’s corny as fuck celebrations right up their asses.

I’m also a proponent of Anthropic as a partner if not acquisition target for Apple but it comes with its own complexities as far as acquisition is concerned, not least of which is its deep financial and technological relationship with Amazon which invested $8 billion into the company and are considering even more, and Google which have about 14% (non-voting) share of the company after their $3 billion investment. Microsoft also has a minority share (not sure if they’ve divested).
I don’t know if Apple have it in them to consider Thinking Machines or Safe Superintelligence (founder profile and goals might clash with Apple’s) but looking at past Apple acquisitions, especially Pixelmator, they tend to target proven teams with high efficiency engineering (or design) and low profile founders. If we strictly apply that, none of the major or tier 1 and 2 AI companies will be considered. Apple didn’t acquire Canva although they might have gone for Affinity had Canva not got there first.

Indonesian or Bahasa Indonesia is the national language with all of its borrowed and adopted words and customs while Malay is a separate language, or dialect if you please, spoken by the Malays in Sumatra and Kalimantan, not affected by the changes in Indonesian. They make the distinction because it’s been agreed upon 93 years ago. My wife’s part Malay and I’ve been to Ponti to a few times to notice that I can’t understand them when they speak Pontianak Malay.

The Superman movie treats the story more like a satire than a proper take into the world of Superman we’d expect.
It rushed through his origin story, frames him as a frustrated teen who’s well aware of his powers but can’t use it and yet we’re supposed to believe he becomes this mild mannered bumbling clumsy reporter hiding his true identity.
And Lois Lane? Supposedly a star reporter but keeps getting dinged by Perry White for making the most basic spelling mistakes. We’re also expected to believe someone with her job could afford a penthouse apartment with a rooftop terrace. Are you serious?
And Lex Luthor’s big plan is destroying the US Pacific coast with nuclear missiles so he can build his own cities and get rich from a real estate business?
Mario Puzo may have written an early draft of the story and Marlon Brando was cast so they can ride on the success of The Godfather even further but this Superman is far more mythical than believable. And don’t get me started on Superman reversing the Earth’s rotation to turn back time to save Lois Lane. Where did he even get the idea from?

Perth is keen to return to the rugby league fold with the announcement of the Perth Bears but its leading newspaper, the West Australian, is on a crusade to spoil it, probably stemming from a feud between its owner and the NRL.
When it was announced in the mid 90s that Melbourne was getting a rugby league team the public and media reception was a lot more hostile. Lots of barbs, both in jest and genuine, thrown against the sport and the local media wasn’t very kind for some years either.
Melbourne is obviously the home of the AFL and a much more parochial AFL crowd than Perth but it didn’t take very long for the public to embrace the club and the sport although the media still wasn’t very receptive for several more years (even when the owner of the biggest one is a partner in the competition). The Storm has been a household name with record crowds filling up the previous and the current stadiums.
Just like in Melbourne I think the public will win out.

@nprofile…mpj6 i think you’re hitting a lot of the right notes in trying to “fix” Mastodon or turning it into something far more people would be comfortable using, but I think the reason Mastodon always feels like a half-built house isn’t because it’s missing features, it’s because the people building it don’t really want new neighbors.
Every time someone suggests a basic thing like search or quote-posts, you get this existential meltdown about how it’ll summon the Twitter demons. At some point, the question stops being “how do we make this better?” and becomes “who are we even building this for?”
My immediate thought went to forking Mastodon. It’s open source after all and for anyone who wants a different kind or a different implementation can probably start a fork and see if people will bite, so perhaps to avoid the collective trauma and the potential backlash, building these changes into a fork might yield a higher success rate. On the other hand I’m aware how challenging it can be to get another platform up and running let alone take off.

This is the sort of question people would ask me but I can’t find the answer myself. I want to keep two Macs synchronized and I don’t just mean files because that’s just iCloud but also settings, preferences, dock positions, docked apps, folder views, the whole shebang, as if they’re one Mac.
I’ve looked through stackexchange and Reddit and can’t seem to find the answer. Most of the questions and answers revolve around iCloud sync or keeping files accessible on multiple Macs.

In a lot of American crime dramas cops often find the phone of the victim and they’d go through the call records or messages. Don’t people password protect their devices? I mean, yeah, it’s a TV trope but if it’s set anytime after 2008 in something that resembles our world or reality, you’ll more likely to find locked phones that need some biometric access.

The US Ambo to Ukraine didn’t denounce the Russian attack or that Russia must stop the invasion of Ukraine. Just like nearly all western media refusing to name Israel behind every deadly attack in Palestine. These atrocities don’t happen in a vacuum, someone or rather some hostile country committed these horrific war crimes.

There was an ASEAN leaders call yesterday about the Trump Tax and as far as I can tell only PM Wong and PM Ibrahim posted about it.
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry released a response to the tax before the call but it wasn’t attributed to anybody and was only posted on the Ministry website where nobody but journalists and the most avid international relations enthusiast would see it.

I’ve been working on a story for about three months now and I’ve interviewed several sources along with another reporter to get to the bottom of it.
And out of nowhere yesterday a meme account broke it on Instagram and a Twitter account posted the story. With fewer details but much more salacious. Several people involved posted about it on their mostly private IG story a couple of weeks ago but their reach was nowhere near as wide as these posts 😅
