ini "klimaks"-nya sih, si Mari ngomong ke Lara "Watashi kara me sorasunayo" (don't avert your eye from me/keep your eyes on me)
Kalau di episodenya, "Me sorasu" jadi fokus karakterisasinya si Mari. Makanya di awal clip dia minta maaf ke senpainya udah "looking away", baik secara spesifik di saat pertandingan ini maupun kegiatan klub boxingnya

There's actually a simpler explanation. Composing repeating operator result in multiplication. `(m ^ a) ^ b = m ^ (a * b)`. For addition, the repeating operator (^) is equal to multiplication (*). So by substitution we got associativity `(m * a) * b = m * (a * b)`

2026-03-28 15:49:15 UTC

- reply

Multiplication is a special case of the repeating operator, with the monoid ℝ over addition (+). We extend it to not only work on ℕ but we have filled in the gap to work for any ℝ. Now it has the type of ℝ × ℝ → ℝ, and by coincidence it has associativity
The same can not be said for exponentiation. It is also a special case of the repeating operator, with the monoid ℝ over multiplication (⋅). The problem is we can not extend it to work on any ℝ. The best we can do is to all positive real numbers. Extending the operator to work on any ℝ take us out of ℝ. The result is now defined to be in the complex number (ℂ)

2026-03-28 15:23:39 UTC

- reply

We can generalize this repeating operation to work over any monoid. Let's define it as the repetition of the binary operator in that monoid.
Or more concretely, for a monoid (𝕄, ⋅). The repetition operator (^) is defined to be:
```
(^) : 𝕄 × ℕ -> 𝕄
m ^ 0 = e
m ^ n = m ⋅ (m ^ (n - 1))
```
Where e is the identity element in the monoid
In this case we can see why associativity doesn't apply. The left and right arguments are of different type, so by definition it can't be associative. Re-bracketing `(m ^ a) ^ b` to `m ^ (a ^ b)` is ill-formed. `a` is not a member of 𝕄

2026-03-28 14:34:00 UTC

What exactly differ from multiplication and exponentiation such that multiplication is associative yet exponentiation is not?
You can think of multiplication as a repeating addition and exponentiation as repeating multiplication. So in a sense, if you squint hard enough they are the same operation. Just substitute addition with multiplication. You only go one step above.
Yet going one step above break that symmetry. You don't get identity nor associativity.

A language without recursion. It can only be implemented through folding (catamorphism) and unfolding (anamorphism). You can't define recursive type either. You have to use mu type.
I don't know what benefit such language would have. Though, it would be a good exercise to implement common function as algebra/co-algebra.

2026-02-08 13:45:41 UTC

From the name I thought it was a language with first class recursion scheme. Is there even a language with such feature?

Kinda sad that ever since [Jordan Martinez left the Core Team](https://discourse.purescript.org/t/leaving-the-core-team/4003), PureScript development has grinded to a halt. Last release was [2 years ago](https://github.com/purescript/purescript/releases/tag/v0.15.15).
PureScript was one of my favorite language beside Haskell, especially PureScript fixed a lot of legacy decision that Haskell unfortunately can not be fixed to support backwards compatibility. It was one of the few ML-family written for frontend.
It has fresh takes on frontend development with the like of [Halogen](https://github.com/purescript-halogen/purescript-halogen) and [Deku](https://github.com/mikesol/purescript-deku)
I might have to start learning [ReasonML](https://reasonml.github.io/) or [Rescript](https://rescript-lang.org/). They both derived from [OCaml](https://ocaml.org/). So another ML-family.
But frontend wise, both kinda relied on react 😑. I guess the upside is they can integrate to any existing react project with as little friction as possible. I prefer having Elm inspired framework or something with signal/FRP.
They also don't support anonymous and polymorphic record. Though they do support polymorphic variant. They also don't have typeclasses. Not that these feature matters to me, but a lot of crazy stuff from Haskell was made with the help of typeclasses. It also helps to have structural typing with record.
