Off topic but thinking out loud does anyone really care about stopping emulation and piracy at this point?
Efforts to stop it were laughable back in the 00s, but bandwidth and hardware made the larger files cumbersome and require effort to find.
All these years later it seems an odd host here and there goes to jail but it remains unimpeded and better than ever to emulate games before the PS3 era. Games past that point are difficult to emulate so that's a nonissue.

Hooking up controllers to emulators is a real game changer. I'm shelving Link to the Past briefly to focus on GBA's Lord of the Rings: Two Towers.
Could someone give me good recs for Gameboy and GBA games that are actually good? I seem to remember:

A word to the wise - for SNES9X, you can plug in a PS4 controller and connect its buttons to the controller input and emulate an SNES using a modern controller.
The same goes for DuckStation to play PS1 games.
For Windows, you'll need DS4Windowsd for Linux, you'll need DS4DRV from Github.
Let me know if you want assistance. Can we keep a running list of emulators that can accept controllers? Its just a matter of getting the computer to accept button input.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The haircut didn't age well, but the game did. Its just a gun platformed and fighter where the Prince and his love interest have lots of character development.
Yahtzee ranked it up there with Silent Hill 2, so go play it bitch.

Quick show of hands - who here is capable of emulating PS2 games without any slowdown on their CPU?
I'm slowly making a backup library of all good roms from before the PS3, provided they haven't had a better remaster. Unfortunately, everything seems to screw up speedwise once you get to the PS2 era.

Back when physical media was the standard, swapping stuff was all the rage. Most people didn't hold on to too many old games and people loaned friends their games like women loan out clothes.
A friend of mine bought me Clock Tower 1 + 2, gave me Silent Hill 1, while I sent him FF3(6) and Haunting Ground and Earthbound.

Someone was talking about Star Fox the other day. I never got into it until the N64, as the SNES was a bit laggy and not really geared towards 3D.
Star Fox 64 had fully voiced characters, to give a personality to each character and a reason to kill Slippy.

I was thinking: Doom Zero is so beloved by fans and so well made that Bethesda includes it in their officially sold products, albeit as an optional download from the Addons menu.

I'm bouncing back and forth between games, but basically I have discovered Doom Zero. To those of you who like the original Doom, this is easily on the same caliber as the best of Doom 1 and 2, with 32 levels.
Tons of bad guys to kill. Its packaged automatically for you on current PlayStation, probably the others too. I'm not good at PC gaming, but modding tends to be easier for them.

So after utilizing this Mastodon, it inspired me to redownload all those old ROMS, mostly SNES and PS1. Emulation is preservation.
I'm going to start doing regular updates on my progress as I mark these off one at a time, starting with Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

I know most people have played this to death, but I never really started till 2022 I think.
Doom is an old game that basically created first person shooters(though Wolfenstein came first). Its been emulated on more devices and platforms than any other game is basically a rite of passage when new tech is created, to make it emulate Doom.
